Lol, the best of the bunch is definitely the damn g1 four with its own cab. Not that the axe-fx won't do better but in this comparison, a little tweaking went a lot way.
The ML IR shows the axe-fx clearer but fizzy for me...I still liked the zoom with its own cab patch.

Actually, after you've selected a slot in EDIT mode, when holding the left pedal, you can scroll the different categories by single-pressing the right pedal. Makes it easier to find the category faster instead of pressing the pedal so much.
    Hope this helps.

@@edwardmakabling418 Absolutely! Makes this unit live a bit longer than others in a pedalboard journey, too, since you can outgrow the amp/cab emulation, but the mod/reverb/delay/etc are really really good. Also, because the blocks can be literally anything in any order, you can get crazy mixed effects that you'd be spending a lot more for in other pedals.

You can clean up the sound pretty good if you have a high output HB if you begin the chain with a Limiter to limit the input signal, or clean up distorted amps very nicely putting the limiter after the amp, you can get the dirty ones to sound clean with good dynamics.

  • @timwoodruff
    @timwoodruff ปีที่แล้ว +7

Nice to see you revisit it. I'm convinced that every amp sounds better in this amp if you run it through the Bogner 4x12 cab specifically. It just smooths everything out and adds a bit better low end to everything.
I will also say, that some of the models in this are just straight up terrible, but there are a bunch of great sounds in it.
There's also a ton of extra effects in the desktop PC software that you can swap out for any stock models that you don't like. Makes it really customizable to stuff you'll actually use.
    Here are my favorite effects:
    Tubescreamer with the boost
    Sweet Drive
    Matchless DC30
    Dual Rectifier
    Marshall Plexi
JCM 800 (the low input is the best pure clean sound on this pedal)
Fender Twin (a bit more sparkly gritty clean)
    Bogner 4x12
    Mod Delay
    Corona Chorus
    Pedal Delay
    Ping Pong Delay
    Plate Reverb
    Room Reverb

Listening through my mini HiFi setup, I legit thought the Zoom sounded better in the mix. There was more clarity and definition to the tone, probably because you dialed it in specifically for that demo track, whereas the AxeFX sounded like you used a pre-made patch dialed in for something else. A slight fog obscured the sound that was there with both the stock and custom IR's, but the Zoom sounded dank either way! There is also a fan-made third party editor for that generation of Zoom products, ToneLib Zoom. I might have to keep a lookout for one of these on the second hand market! \m/ Keep up the awesome demos Taylor! \m/

For something around $100 it is a great portable option. This processor is nice for it's money - G1X Four with built in pedal - volume / Wah, etc. They wish they had this back in the 70's / 80's / 90's. Turn on the speaker cabs - mic on and it sounds a lot better on tweaking. Changing order of pedals is nice option also.

I will say that using the amp sims as an intermediary in front of an actual amp to affect and morph the saturation character is actually a lot of fun, and can give you some really cool tones, especially if you test various actual amp and sim combinations, or add other distortion pedals like Boss MT-2 and Revv G4 and other preamp type pedals later on in the chain. Also, the Zoom noise reducer and gate are actually very good, as stated by Taylor.

I like that you gave a second opportunity to the zoom. For me personally a Ge200 is the best solution for rehearsal and to perform live without paying too much. With a little more cash I'd go to the Boss G1000 LTE because has more processing power and open blocks. The zoom for me will remain the "I just got into guitar and my parents bought me that to practice with earphones" thing, maybe I'm a boomer. Today kids that get into guitar have so much to choose from, when I started playing I was thought that plugins were just a trend, today if I were to restart again I could use a focusrite Scarlett and a pc with my guitar to practice, or a soundcard that connects to my tablet and an app to practice. We're living in the golden age for gear, and the purist's hell 🤣

    Previous church was Boss Me-25..
G1F are very limited by it's 5 blocks effect, but it has something that ME-25 doesn't (or I can't fell enough on it), that is Cabinet model...
Cabinet + mic is game changer for my setups.. (Direct to mixer setup)..
Minus point is very limited by it's 5 slot effects. I have no problem with it, it just "okay". It's also about custom order of effects, I can using it for electric guitar, accoustic guitar, and keyboard for some modulation...
So 7 slots permanent order vs 5 slots custom order + cabinet + mic model, I'll go with G1F...
Don't be mad on me, both multieffects has their great tone and also fells similar to me, I love them both... 🔥✌
Notes : I'm not using any reverb on these multieffects, it's depent to the sound engineer and room accoustic, thats why I can adapt from 7 to 5 slots...

I will agree with many that the distortion affects aren’t the best but they are also not the worst. I’ve had my pedal for close to a year and I love it, it’s a very easy interface and making your own parches will make it sound 1000% better than the stock ones that come with it especially if you get the B1x four which has the expression pedal.

They go for €89 here, great as a beginner or something (almost) pocketable. A headphones socket would have made it a must buy.

Compared to what was in the market before the G1on and this one, those are real miracles to be honest. The G2 and G1 were way better than the 505's but still not enough. With this one you can actually do some small gigs, especially if you don't use the amp and cab sims. The effects are way better than they were in more expensive multi-effects from the GT10 era.

I love Zoom stuff to mess around with but I do have a complaint until I tweak more. I play Rickenbackers mainly. What I notice is unlike my 2 decade old Zoom PS02, this unit colors the piss out of my guitar. Instead of it sounding like my guitar going through, it makes it sound like a whole other make and pickup set.
This is even on clean. Again, have to keep tweaking to see if it's me being a dolt or the unit itself.

This pedal is more user friendly, and the visual of seeing the 5 positions, and being able to turn any one off with the push of a button is nice. The NUX, performance wise is fine. But it's just not as user friendly as this pedal is. Everything on this Zoom pedal is very straightforward. I'm sure for the more experienced player either pedal is fine.

I’m hoping to get some kind of small amp sim to put in my guitar case until I can use it all again. What would you recommend?
