- Today we will compare the Turkish TFX Stealth Fighter Jet KAAN with the South Korean KAI KF-21 Boramae Fighter Jet. Both of these fighter jets are modern and advanced, but which one is better? Let's find out.
The TFX is a fifth-generation, twin-engine fighter jet that is being developed by Turkey's aerospace industry. It is designed to be an advanced multi-role fighter jet that can conduct air-to-air, air-to-ground, and electronic warfare missions.
The KAI KF 21, on the other hand, is a fourth-generation fighter jet that is produced by South Korea's Korea Aerospace Industries. It is a light fighter jet that is designed to be agile and capable of performing air-to-air and air-to-ground missions.

I’ve never imagine turky makes semiconductor, electronics, integration system in electric, radar, aero engines, on and on. Personally, I think TFX is better because it's a 5th gen while KF-21 is still 4.5 gen but the South Koreans are not planning to stop there, so a 5th gen variant is not far away but it is still a good fight jet nonetheless

Korea is currently at an interesting stage of development, when the nation has a huge amount of things to be proud of, yet is still plagued by complexes from the past. Koreans who live outside Korea are usually very polite, but those living in their own country have a very strange attitude towards people, which negatively affects Korea as a whole. I think they just lack more levity and understanding.

The planes in the video will never be enemies and rivals to each other, and as long as the world exists, these two planes will not enter the inventory of any 2 different countries that are likely to conflict with each other.
Still, the technology comparison is good, but the needs differ according to each country and geography, and any feature that remains in the background does not indicate that the technology of the manufacturer of that aircraft is backward.
I wish that both countries will produce their own aircraft engines as soon as possible, and that their aircraft will be completely national and have the best of them.

The KF-21 project pursued a direction that focused on minimizing the possibility of failure rather than aiming for the highest performance, utilizing thoroughly validated and achievable technologies. With a budget of 8 billion dollars, it aimed to deliver the best possible outcome within our capabilities.
KFX is a nice plane, of course, but it cannot surpass TFX. A total of 20 billion dollars were spent on the production of TFX. But we love korea too 🇰🇷♥️🇹🇷
The important thing is that you have built your own plane. A plane that you don't have to get permission from another country to operate. And Türkiye's aim is the same.

Both Korea and Turkiye are doing good to increase their work in military advancements. They are both countries with strong ties with USA as a main supplier in the past, but Turkiye has seen how brittle those relations can be if you dare oppose USA in matters that concern your own safety and security. Both Korea and Turkiye made the right choice to reduce their dependence and free themselves from the shackles of big brother.

As far as I know, S. Korea and Turkey had initial plans to build a fighter jet jointly. Then, they each went their own way. But I'm sure there is still a lot of know-how shared between them, as they are geographically distant, but historically very close nations. In any case, fabulous planes, both of them.
Yes I rebember this,Korea choice more safe option they make kf 21 but during the process America do not give permission of the aesa radar use in kf 21 for competition with f16 , 2 contries have different approaches for diplomacy that so in the end everyone making their own plane with their best benefits (Korea buy support from lockeed Martins which f16 producer)
South Korea doesn't share much technology with Turkey. Turkey received technical support from Korea for the Altay tank, but is currently promoting it as its own independently developed tank. Koreans do not have very good feelings towards Turkey. In the case of TFX, Turkey requested various help from Korea, but Korea refused all of them.

Regarding the Altay tank, they didn't have quite what we needed, and germany jerked us around for many years for the engine, until we developed our own 1500 hp diesel engine. You simply cannot compare these jets. First of all: the South Korean fighter jet is almost ready. But the Turkish fighter jet was just unveiled. It probably still needs several years to become serial and combat ready. But that also means, that the stats are just “target stats” and have nothing to do with reality.
South Korea fly their jet several months back and turkey will fly this machine Jun next month, it's almost same gatigory for timing,, the pilot of kaan fighter jet will control and team up with 5 kizilelma drones according to Turkish airforce,, Turkish company aselsan also contributed kfx program for radar aesa according to South Korea
Korean KC-21 is 4.5 th generation jet fighter with Western key components, so if Turkey can build a 5th generation by its own, of course Turkish achievement will be greater,

KF-21 has only two stages left. (finished 250 sortie out of 2,000, directly operated by the Air Force)
Comparing eggs with chickens is contradictory in itself.
The fast speed of South korea is based on finishing development of key technologies: AESA radar, IRST, EO TGP, EW Suite, MC ... even inner cable. These are more difficult than developing air craft itself. These were key technologies that the US or Europe refused to pass on.
The initial development goal of KF-21 was not to compete with the F-35 but to replace about 100 old F4 and F5e still used in Korea.
The expensive maintenance cost of the F-35 led to the need for the KF-21 which was equivalent to or much cheaper than the F-16. (but ..)

From the beginning, KF-21 was developed for domestic use, not for export.
If that happens, there will be no reason to import any more F-16s or F-35s afterwards. It is also developing KF-21 Navy for a scheduled mid-sized aircraft carrier.
In Korea, there are no political barriers to the development of the KF-21 because both the ruling and opposition parties agree on the need.

Both countries' next-generation fighter jet projects are national destiny projects, but they see no reason to ignore U.S. help.
First of all, Turkey's Kaan seems to have better performance than Korea's Boramae. But if you look inside, there are important factors, the biggest of which are the Engine and AESA radar.
Currently, Korea has no problem in supplying engines because it has a good relationship with the United States, and has already produced more than 200 F-404 engines, which are the basis of GE's F-414 model. The current KF-21 uses the F-414 as the F414-GE-400K, which is said to be an improved version of the engine previously used in the F-18 Super Hornet and Growler, and there is evidence that the KF-21 broke supersonic speeds in test flights without turning on the afterburners, according to the plane's glass cockpit. However, neither the Korea Defense Agency nor the production company KAI made any special comment on this. On the other hand, in the case of Turkey, it is known that it is still having a lot of trouble procuring engines, and it is also having diplomatic friction with the United States, so the key point seems to be whether it will be able to supply GE's F-110. Of course, they know about this diplomatic friction. We know that Turkey is developing its own version of the F-110, the TF-35000. However, unlike small jet engines for drones, even a country with a certain high level of industrialization cannot easily make high-powered engines for real manned fighters. Currently, these problems are also seen in Chinese fighter jets. They have developed new engines based on Russian fighter engines, but unlike the original, they often lose a lot of power and do not perform well.
The second is whether the AESA radar is applied among sensors. In the case of Korea, they have completed their own development and testing with their world-class semiconductor leading technology. It is Hanwha's Active Electronically Scanned Array radar based on gallium nitride (GaN). In terms of hardware, it is currently evaluated as the most advanced model. If they include basic technology, it takes about 10 years to develop. Originally, it was supposed to be provided by the U.S., but suddenly changed their attitude and eventually Korea completed development using its semiconductor-based technology. The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute of Korea (ETRI) has developed a world-class 300 watt gallium nitride power device technology, but the GaN device currently applied is one step below this, and 1200 tr modules are mounted, the search distance is said to be 200km according to the government's official announcement and about 250km or more according to interviews with researchers at the manufacturer. On the other hand, in the case of Turkey, unlike Korea, information is a little limited, so the information circulating on the Internet is as follows. But, unfortunately, the AESA radar is still under development.
In fact, both countries have experience with licensed production of the US F-16, the world's best-selling fighter jet. In Turkey's case, it's possible that they've accumulated so much technology that they've even been awarded F-16 modification contracts by their neighbors. However, Turkey has produced its own advanced trainer jet and conducted its first test flight this spring in 2023. This shows that making a completion of the manned jet is very difficult in itself. On the other hand, South Korea's KF-21 is not the first supersonic fighter to be built. They have already developed the supersonic T-50 trainer 12 years ago, which even the United States is now interested in, and have built more than 100 FA-50 light attack fighter (including TA-50 training and light attack aircraft) and have contracts to deliver and supply them to their own air force, as well as to Southeast Asia, South America, and Poland in Europe.
In the case of the KF-21, it has already completed air-to-air armament testing and is awaiting a combat readiness determination, which, if passed, will be followed by a series production contract with the South Korean government later this year, with production starting next year. KAI has also begun work on the KF-21N as a carrier aircraft, a 60,000-ton medium carrier under consideration by the South Korean government, and a miniature mock-up is already available. In a way, South Korea now looks to France's Rafale as its benchmark.
Of course, as a newly developed fighter, it is an interesting comparison, but the difference in development status and goal orientation of the two fighters is very large. And if you look at the TFX's performance on the catalog, it's actually more interesting to compare it not to the KF-21, but to the British-led Tempest.
TFX's success remains to be seen, but I admire their ambition. The world belongs to those who dream.

The two aircraft are not direct competitors. TFX Kaan is larger heavy weight "air dominance" fighter jet like US F-15E Strike Eagle.
Korean KFX KF-21 is more like middle-class multirole fighter jet, like F-16/F-18 and stresses versatility, availability, affordability and maintenance cost. They are designed for different purposes, objectives and threats. They can even co-exist in the same air force.
I applaud both these countries to strive out of russia-US-china arms circling the world. The market needs diversity and diversity, democracy and freedom will prevail.
Democracy and freedom are great, and in a democracy we are free to take drugs, carry guns, and shoot civilians at will. We can also take fighter jets and warships to other countries and shoot their civilians, that's how great democracy is.
The similarity of the two caught my attention. Later, when I researched, I learned that the tfx project was initially started jointly with Korea, but was abandoned due to political reasons. Just like the Altay tank project. Presumably there may be American obstruction. Our Altay tank was delayed due to American obstruction. BUT TURKEY COMPLETED BOTH OF ITS PROJECTS IN RECORD TIME.

As you know, the Korean Air Force's FA-50 is a derivative of the trainer T-50, and its main mission is air support. FA-50 specifically replaces F5 I think.

as much as i know, there is a feature which allows the co-pilot once its done as tandem, to arrigate a navigation between the drones and the special manufactured SOM Bombs. I think this is something unique and never done by someone else i guess.
Neither the F-35 nor the F-22 can communicate with Drones. Our officials say it will be a 5th gen fighter jet but in reality when we have managed to build our domestic 5th gen engine, and brought the TFX onto a 5th gen level, the TFX will become morelikely a 5.5 or 6th gen fighter jet than a 5th gen fighter Jet.

Both countries seem to have produced fighters overall better than the 4th generation aircraft but deprived surtain technology to be on par with F35. It will be interesting to know in the future both Turkey and south Korean fighter upgrades will unlock surtain technology as the year's progress making them a formidable aircraft.

This comparison would be better if TAI is compared with KAI KF21 block 3 which will be 5th gen fighter and TFX should be completed around the time KF21 block 3 is completed.

KF-21 has completed 6 aircrafts flying test as of today. Meantime, Kaan has not yet completed aircraft flying test as of today. Due to, KF-21 seems to be debuted in the market earlier than KAAN.
Hope both projects will finish successfully.
Hopefully Indonesia can cooperate with Turkey and one day follow Turkey's steps in terms of Independence technology

25년부터 블럭1 40대 1차 배치 목표이고 공대지 기술이 완성되는 블록2는 28년 배치 예정이지만 그 기간을 줄이려 노력 중입니다.
41번째 KF-21부터 한국제 엔진을 넣으려 노력중이지만 어렵습니다. 극강의 소재기술이 동반되고 5조의 예산이 필요하기 때문에요.
1만 파운드급 엔진은 어느정도 윤곽이 나왔으나 1만 5천 파운드급 엔진은 많이 어렵습니다.
KF-21 시제기는 600여회 비행을 이미 했고 2000회까지 합니다. 현재로는 아무 문제가 없습니다.
블럭3는 계획만 있고 아직 미계약 상태 입니다.
안타깝게도 우방국 미국과의 경쟁이 되길 원치 않으므로 개발의 속도를 조절해야 합니다.
Kaan도 엔진문제가 시급한 걸로 알고 있습니다.

Has the TFX flown yet? The KF-21 has already had its maiden flight and even has had a 2-seater prototype take to the air. To my knowledge the first TFX hasn't flown yet.

Yes, you can compare the two jets physically, but the important thing is the software. The software of the 5th generation jet and the 4th generation jet makes a big difference.

TFX is wonderful stealth airplane as its a vapor plane. Come now, developed with help from Pakistan? Not sure it will ever fly. Just forget it & join the 2nd upgrade of KF-21. I am sure Seoul will welcome u guys in a heartbeat.
Both have similar performance, but the specs of the Turkish fighter look slightly better. But the real fighter look is on the AESA radar. That is, if the fighter that saw it first from a distance fired a missile. I hope both fighters never have to use them in real combat. War really takes a terrible toll.
One of important specification that is not mentioned in the video is their sizes. KAAN is bigger than F22, while KF21 is small than F18 which can explain many differences.
KF21's localization rate and testing process are actually revealed, but KAAN is all in the dark😊

KF-21 is a 4.5 Gen Jet designed primarily to replace the ancient F-4 and F-5 that are falling apart in the Korean Airforce. They're not looking for absolute state of the art that costs tons of money to produce and maintain, they already have F-35 for that. The TFX is a 5th Gen that will run into the same cost and schedule overruns of 5th gen. Stealth is extremely complicated and expensive. Internal Weapons Bay is an engineering nightmare that will delay development significantly.
I believe the KF-21 will be ready by the scheduled 2026 date. I do not believe TFX will be ready until 2030 with the numerous issue that will turn up for 5th gen development.
