Trying to compare Dino Crisis 1 to Dino Crisis 2 is like trying to compare the film Alien to it's sequel, Aliens... Both entries are wonderful and entertaining, but are different in tone and pacing. Why should you have to bust your ass to fail at recapturing the magic of the original, when you could hypothetically start off with a clean slate and surpass the limitations/expectations of the original? With this said, Dino Crisis 2 was a welcomed addition to the series, in my opinion
I'll never understand why Dino Crisis wasn't as succesful as Resident Evil. Seriously, I'm more afraid of raptors than zombies. ... Which isn't stupid if you think about it, after all zombies are slow, dumb, they only work well in huge groups, and if they catch you they'll turn you into one of them; while raptors are fast, intelligent, they organize in little groups to chase you, and your biggest problem is that they know how to open fucking doors Dx
Dino Crisis 2 is like what Resident Evil 4 was. Yes, it's a departure from the series and more action based. But it, itself, is just too good a game to be upset over.
if there will a sequel to dc 2... (d3 is trash, it's not a sequel) it would be a good idea to make it survival horror again but add action too like in re 3, game takes place outside and some facilities, takes place at night and day etc.
Just finished 1 and 2 . IMO 1st game is better since it's a survival horror type like RE but it's harder looking from my perspective , Dinos are faster than zombies , they can break into the rooms , also they apply bleed status . 1st game is darker than 2nd game , has a lot of puzzle solving the story is better and ofc you can decide how the story follows by making decision which bring a replay value. A 2nd game is action based with a straight forward gameplay , with little to no puzzle , unlike the 1st game , this one rewards you for killing Dinos , but compared to 1st game it is fairly easy even playing on Hard difficulty i never managed to struggle on any part while playing . Both are fun still but 2nd one has no replay value while 1st one does .
I replayed both these games as a kid I loved the scary survival horror the first one was but the 2nd was way more fun introducing new Dinosaurs, characters and weapons also the Battle Colosseum that gave you an incentive to replay to unlock everything.
Goddamn the visuals amazed the fuck out of me considering it's a PS1 game. Not many PS1 games were using the motion capture technology for in-game animations. It could have even pass as a PS2 game if they updated the visuals a bit.
I wouldn't say it's a bad game, in fact, looking at them objectively, 4/5/6 are all amazing "games". They just aren't good "Resident Evil games". 4 comes the closest to the correct mix of modern mechanics and classic horror, but they shouldn't have included a store, and the ammo should have been dialed back some. If you have seen the footage of the scrapped builds, you have seen why original series fans are so jaded by what 4 became in the end. Just my opinion, your entitled to yours as well.
my the best game for ps 1 the first one was boring, not too many dinosaurs and lots of passwords and still indoor most of the time. This game on the other hand is beautiful, many dinos, graphics is awesome for ps1, more action, beautiful prehistoric nature and yes I am a dino geek and have degree in palaeontology
@liberatedanimal True. The 8 bit ere wa simpistic,, the Turbo-Grafx 16 was colorful, the Genesis was grainy, the SNES wa smooth, the N64 was vivid, the Dreamcast bright, the PS2 filmlike, the GCN colorful, the Xbox high res, the 360 shiny, the Wii colorful, and the PS3, smooth and filmlike. The PS one was blurry and the Satun was even more blurry, though the Saturn had way better 2D sprites than PS one. Even Virtual Boy, 32X, Jaguar, and Sega CD had some graphical charm.
I haven't played this in over 10 years. I played it when it first came out and I remember loving it. I just got through playing Dino Crisis one and wow it was better than I remembered. Anyways, I'm about to start this game now and I hope it's as good as I remember.
@liberatedanimal to me it was always the other way around, the N64 with it's low res heavily filtered textures always looked blurry, but regardless of graphics, there weren't really many games that appealed to me (that and I could never stand the controller). There's just way too many games I love for both the Saturn and PS1.
The change in tone reminds me of Aliens. The First Alien movie was a horror film but then Aliens was a action flick. Same deal here. So its a good formula to emulate.
@TheSideshowNick Im not saying RE4 is bad, because i really like it, but if what you say happens, we will be kicking and suplex-ing dinosaurs in Dino Crisis 4
I haven't got the slightest clue why you're calling troll or fanboy here... What am I supposedly a fanboying in that reply? I outright said I thought all 3 sucked from the RE series standpoint, but that, objectively speaking, if they were taken as seperate games, they are actually not bad. I still dislike them from a series standpoint, but I can also see from the other side of the glass. I'm neither a fanboy or a hater, I'm neutral on the whole deal.
I hate survival horror so I was really happy to see that this one is very different from the first one, you know it improved the formula kind of like re4 did for the resident evil franchises (you know until # 6 ruined it)
Fucking loved this game on ps1, I played it shitloads and unlocked everything, my favs being playing as the t-rex in the arena mode and going around in the main story blasting everything with Dylan's antitank rifle and Regina's dual machine guns with infinite ammo, good times!!
I loved the first Dino Crisis, which is why I was disappointed in this one. I wanted survival horror. Then again, Dino Crisis 2 is way better than what they did to Resident Evil later on.
some ppl object on its action-oriented gameplay.Firstly it is a dinosaur game not zombies, and Dino's are faster and more powerful than zombies. So killing them makes more sense than escaping them.Survival horror theme is not a perfect one for Dino's rather action with some graphic violence and dc2 has graphic violence.Even in DC1 I used to be not scared from dinosaurs and used to kill them
I don't see a big difference in the gameplay. It looks like a Resident Evil-like game to me. Maybe more action-oriented, as you pointed out, but the still camera shots, the tank controls, and the shooting mechanics all look Resident Evil-ly to me.
1. Fallout 3 2. Halo 2 3. Dino Crisis 2 4. Donkey Kong Country 5. Borderlands 2 Those are my top 5 personal games. You did not give this game enough credit as the near masterpeice it is
1st one is the best 2nd is the good 3rd is the worst Capcom if you plan to make a 4th one, manage to create it like the 1st one but less harder like the 2nd one :)
I didn't like this game too much, the first one was great though. The third one looked awesome in previews so i got it not long after launch day and........oh boy what a waste of money that was.
I was scarred shitless of thr game when I got it as a present when I was 6. Its an M rated game Dad! On top of that I had to choose between returning either this or Final Fantasy 9. So now all I wish is I chose the FF game. This one simply wasnt for me...
@89gamergirl i watch all the reviews that CGR uploads daily. when he happens to pop in one of 'em, i can't help but criticize his voice. he's just like ray carsello; fucking jumbling up the words and it sounds horrible , something a reviewer should NOT do. watch my reviews and you'll see how it should be done.
i spent like 30 mins in the very first scene ran through all my shells and then was fighting them off with a machete as i thought thats what the game wanted
All the quicktime events garbage and cinematic rubbish ruined it. They took a great survival horror series and turned it into a lame ass linear gears of war over the shoulder shooter. Don't get me wrong Gears of War was great because it was SUPPOSED to be a fucking shooter. Also it wasn't ruined with lameass cutscenes and boring quicktime events.
This is one of the BEST games i ever played, definitely on my top five games.
I used to finish this game every summer with my cousin when I was a a child. So many memories.
Trying to compare Dino Crisis 1 to Dino Crisis 2 is like trying to compare the film Alien to it's sequel, Aliens...
Both entries are wonderful and entertaining, but are different in tone and pacing.

This and dino 1 are on sale until Monday for a dollar on psn
Dino Crisis 2 is like what Resident Evil 4 was. Yes, it's a departure from the series and more action based. But it, itself, is just too good a game to be upset over.
1:24 to 1:27 tell if it does not remind you about The Lost World Jurassic Park
I really liked this game back in the days.
I can see why some ppl may hate it for changing the game-play from DC1 but I myself really loved it.
I just started playing this game again a couple of days ago. It's probably my favorite action game on the original Playstation
one of the best games of all time. MASTERPIECE.
if there will a sequel to dc 2... (d3 is trash, it's not a sequel) it would be a good idea to make it survival horror again but add action too like in re 3, game takes place outside and some facilities, takes place at night and day etc.
I love all three Dino crisis games but the first one is far superior. was way better as a survival horror game
There are 4 games, actually.
Azzalack what's the fourth? If it's dino stalker I wouldn't really count that it seems like more of a spin-off
That's what I was referencing.
I hope to get a new part dino crisis or remake dino crisis
Why shoot the velociraptors when you can melee them to death.
Just finished 1 and 2 . it actually have a replay value, you know, when you want to unlock all characters and dinos, pick up all dino files and play the extra crisis modes :/
I replayed both these games as a kid I loved the scary survival horror the first one was but the 2nd was way more fun introducing new Dinosaurs, characters and weapons also the Battle Colosseum that gave you an incentive to replay to unlock everything.
yea dino crises 1 was hard, especially the puzzles. and i hated the fact that even with you ran away from a dino, they still sometimes follow you
I remember beating this game over and over each day.
Goddamn the visuals amazed the fuck out of me considering it's a PS1 game. Not many PS1 games were using the motion capture technology for in-game animations. It could have even pass as a PS2 game if they updated the visuals a bit.
CliffFitter89 im 100% agree with you bro

Obviously your degree isn't in English.
As a dino geek, I'm sure you are cringing on every single second you are seeing a dinosaur... And especially those velociraptor.
@liberatedanimal True. The 8 bit ere wa simpistic,, the Turbo-Grafx 16 was colorful, the Genesis was grainy, the SNES wa smooth, the N64 was vivid, the Dreamcast bright, the PS2 filmlike, the GCN colorful, the Xbox high res, the 360 shiny, the Wii colorful, and the PS3, smooth and filmlike. i liked D.C2 compared to the first one, agreed this one is also faster :) ahhh...the nostalgia...
The change in tone reminds me of Aliens. The First Alien movie was a horror film but then Aliens was a action flick. Same deal here. So its a good formula to emulate.
2:16 hehe fail he was comparing dino crisis 2 with dino crisis 2 lol
@TheSideshowNick Im not saying RE4 is bad, because i really like it, but if what you say happens, we will be kicking and suplex-ing dinosaurs in Dino Crisis 4
Great review,as always.
This was an incredible game for its time. The series really needs to be rejuvenated.
If they did a remake of this game similar to the Resident Evil Zero release they did on the gamecube it be amazing!!
even though this was an action game when i first played it i still found it scary being surrounded by raptors. xD
How come Regina is doing another mission so close to the last?
Such an odd question.
I prefer the original
it´s like play the mercenaries in RE4
I haven't got the slightest clue why you're calling troll or fanboy here...
What am I supposedly a fanboying in that reply? I outright said I thought all 3 sucked from the RE series standpoint, but that, objectively speaking, if they were taken as seperate games, they are actually not bad.

99 cents on the psn store right now
my god , the nostalgia
Awesome game. The original Classic Game Room "hated" the first Dino Crisis. I wonder what Mark thinks about this one.
We beat this game in 2000 -loved the ending -even though -I forgot he or she dies -
I have the actual video game in its case but the case is scratched and a bit broken. And the disc has alot of minor scratches.
it's funny how dinosaurs are the 90's equivalent to modern day's zombies
Funny to see them RIP that Raptor Attack Scene in the Long Grass From Jurassic PArk The Lost World.
DC1 FTW
Loved this game so much !! had amazing graphics for the time as well awsome game.
Hope you guys can do part 3 never played t
I hate survival horror so I was really happy to see that this one is very different from the first one, you know it improved the formula kind of like re4 did for the resident evil franchises (you know until # 6 ruined it)
Actually Mark reviewed this back in the old days
Fucking loved this game on ps1, I played it shitloads and unlocked everything, my favs being playing as the t-rex in the arena mode and going around in the main story blasting everything with Dylan's antitank rifle and Regina's dual machine guns with infinite ammo, good times!!
+Daniel Mc Donald I loved the final boss level where you had to verse the Giganatosaurus. My favourite guns were the Solid Cannon and Missile Pod.
when capcom used to make good games..memories
getting some bossed out weapons and going on a dino killing spree is some great fun!
Who'd win in a fight between Regina and Jill Valentine?
@FastTquick Then Dino Stalker for PS2. Wait... I think that might have been reviewed.
yeah, thannx
I loved the first Dino Crisis, which is why I was disappointed in this one. I wanted survival horror. Then again, Dino Crisis 2 is way better than what they did to Resident Evil later on.

@TheSideshowNick yeah that would be wasome but also make it dark like the first one
@jay270486 because the maker of this game is capcom
Man, this second game being more action is SO MUCH BETTER. I hate slow sucker paced like the first dino crisis is.
I don't see a big difference in the gameplay. It looks like a Resident Evil-like game to me. Maybe more action-oriented, as you pointed out, but the still camera shots, the tank controls, and the shooting mechanics all look Resident Evil-ly to me.
@TestamentxOverdrive does it really matter?
1. Fallout 3 2. Halo 2 3. Dino Crisis 2 4. Donkey Kong Country 5. Borderlands 2 Those are my top 5 personal games. You did not give this game enough credit as the near masterpeice it is
1st one is the best
2nd is the good
3rd is the worst
Capcom if you plan to make a 4th one, manage to create it like the 1st one but less harder like the 2nd one :)
This game was good, not as good as the first one though. I like survival horror it has more finesse :)
i just downloaded this!
i like both games
the best dino crisis i still playing it
I didn't like this game too much, the first one was great though. The third one looked awesome in previews so i got it not long after launch day and........oh boy what a waste of money that was.
was a action horror.
cool stuff...
do you pronounce gripe as grip in yanks/confeds ville?
The 3rd Birthday IS NOT Parasite Eve 3. It's not even a Parasite Eve game.
love this game but 3 is whats up
you can shoot and run sametime.
@Ellisthemechanic I care
2:16 "... like dino crisis 2, ..." wasn't it meant to be dino crisis 1?
Do you not know about The 3rd Birthday? Essentially Parasite Eve 3
dino coliseum?
Have you even tried 4? you're probably just saying that cause the gameplay changed
This game looks like the original Resident Evil but looks quite funny cos the music is so ott and the action is so jerky.
get this game on playstation store!
I was scarred shitless of thr game when I got it as a present when I was 6. Its an M rated game Dad! On top of that I had to choose between returning either this or Final Fantasy 9. So now all I wish is I chose the FF game. This one simply wasnt for me...
Now this is a veey hard gane i tell you.
to think this game scared the crap out of me!!!!lol
reboot needed
you can use analog in this game silly goose
Was dino crisis 2 survival horror?
..wait.. they time traveled in this game? lol
That plot was in the first one.
***** Ah, just started playing the first one a few days ago. Was thinking this was suppose to be like Jurassic park
going hunting
@Dzeath1 dead rising is a good game... :'(
I see what you did there :D
Gripe, not grip.
@89gamergirl i watch all the reviews that CGR uploads daily. when he happens to pop in one of 'em, i can't help but criticize his voice. he's just like ray carsello; fucking jumbling up the words and it sounds horrible , something a reviewer should NOT do. watch my reviews and you'll see how it should be done.
i spent like 30 mins in the very first scene ran through all my shells and then was fighting them off with a machete as i thought thats what the game wanted
resident evil 4 5 6 sucks!!!!!1
Capcom should def remake this game
You should review the disgraceful Dino Crisis 3 for Xbox.
I'm a dinosaur! I'm serious, this is socalled "racist" and I feel offended also!
starfox adventures anybody
2:18 it is Dino crisis 2, not “like Dino crisis 2”
Devo Gamer I hope to get a new part dino crisis or remake dino crisis
Hussein king so do i
All the quicktime events garbage and cinematic rubbish ruined it. They took a great survival horror series and turned it into a lame ass linear gears of war over the shoulder shooter. my god is that game bad
LOL
