Oh my god, these games make me old, I was pretty young when my dad rented Cortex Strikes Back for the Playstation from our local video rental place(It was shut down a few years ago)
thx for making this review. But honestly, as objective as this review is, it doesn't do justice to the pure excellence of the game...a lot more praise should be given, frankly...
I'm actually playing this game on the PS3 (with the original PS black disc). It's fun as hell, a great game for any era and very challenging for today's standards.
i miss the old crash bandicoot it's kind of sad that the crash Era is over and Crash Bandicoot is dead :( i remember playing this as my first crash game (since i played it when i was little i only remembered seeing Cortex's floating head) and then i played Crash Bash and i remembered running from a snowball and getting crushed by it and swimming through mud those were the days. I bought crash of the titans happy to see a new crash game and it doesn't feel the same
Well, it's hard to imagine these days. But it worked quite well with CB2. Actually, digital control is, in it's own way, even more precise, than analog. Fo example you won't miss a jump, because you were not running fast enough in this game.
I played crash 1 and 3 in PS1 when I was a kid. I wanted to play crash 2 but we cant find a CD in stores. 20 years later I played crash 2 (n.sane) in ps4 . And now I think crash2 is the best platformer of the 3.
That's funny, because in the levels 'Digging it' and 'Bee-Having', I think the men that have the hammers that slam Crash when he's underground look like Eustace!
Oh the days back in early '98, playing this over at a friend's house, then running over to parents and begging for them to buy it, luckily my dad liked the first game so he bought it that same day. I was a spoiled kid, lol.
it wasnt an alternative reality the 5 secret levels were hidden in the ruins of cortex castle after crash burned it down, proved by the amount of medivial bricks and banners with NC on them and the fact that island one and two is visible from there, but three isnt. there is always something so secret in crash games, like all of the coloured gems, that made you go, how would i ever learn that, that was there!
The Question marks arent secret areas theyre bonus stages. From memory jumping down a hole and back tracking at the end of a polar bear level and the fake nitro box pyrimid thing they werent to obvious
@TheMrminimario yes he has, he and spyro were both on a gba game a while back (two versions of it for each charcter) i still have the cartridge as well
I agree though at the time I did not have much appreciation for Turn Based RPG's in retrospect Square and Naughty Dog made the Playstation... As for Rare I'd have to say my personal favorite was Jet Force Gemini everyone always forgets about that game. Definitely the most underrated game on that system....
What games are better all come down to personal preference. They are all truly remarkable games. Technically, Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64 were more innovative since they arrived first. But then again, CTR had a really awesome single player mode. To most, it boils down to which game you grew up with as a child. Personally, I like Mario 64 better than Crash. They are both solid games though, and me liking Mario 64 better is just a personal opinion.
Yup. Not only was it the easiest, but the "extra" polishing made it too little unique. You can easily play Crash Bandicoot 1 and 3, along with the best kart game ever, Crash Team Racing, and have experienced pretty much everything the series is about. I did like some of the secret gems in CB2 though, but I think it's my least favorite of the 4 games. I think because CB1 was so rough, it just was a more different experience, in a good way. CB1 is still the hardest.
its funny how he said that this game popularized crash bandicoot when the first game made much more sales as the third best selling ps1 game at nearly 10 million sales.
@RobbanFoxer There was a level of brainpower needed to beat games like this back in the day. For example: I love the CB series to this day. I beat them all 100% when I got older. I played these games when they first came out on the ps1. I believe I got to the third Island of CB1, but couldn't finish it. CB2 I also did not finish when it first came out. CB3 was the only one I beat when I first got it, and I didn't even beat it 100% with the secret ending.
Yeah, its a shame Naughty Dog left the series behind, but if they hadnt we wouldnt have gotten Jak and Daxter, Uncharted, and the upcoming The Last of Us. As much as I love Crash, I'd say thats a good deal (especially considering we got 4 great Crash games before Naughty Dogs departure).
I'm just glad they haven't sold the rights to Jak and Daxter. They should have at least kept the rights in case they ever wanted a chance to create another one.
This game didn't improve on Crash Bandicoot 1, because there was nothing to improve. I may be lethally injected with nostalgia but that game will always be the most perfect game ever to me.
There are secret areas that are so not obvious that the reviewer didn't even knew about!!! Try beating this game 100% without seeking all the secrets in the internet!!! I was so happy as a kid when I completed this 100% !!!
Seriously? Well, each to their own but I think the Uncharted series and The Last of Us are fucking fantastic. ND have made my favourite games on every generation.
Don't forget that to complete the game by collecting everything is a bitch! there's a secret warp room and there's 42 gems to collect as well. so while it isn't as big a challenge as the first, it's still ace.
Which Naughty Dog are you referring to? The old team that developed Crash 1-CRT and has long since left the studio at this point, or the new team employed at Naughty Dog made up of people who never worked on a Crash game in their lives? Also, if you're unhappy with Crash today, Universal Interactive Studios are the ones to blame, not Radical Entertainment.
Crash looked so different in this game compared to the first one that when I was a kid I thought that he and Coco were Crash's and Tawna's sons.
crash bandicoot is one of the best series of all time and this with team racing are my favorites
Crash Bandicoot will always be one of the best series from the 90's no doubt.
Oh my god, these games make me old, I was pretty young when my dad rented Cortex Strikes Back for the Playstation from our local video rental place(It was shut down a few years ago)
Blockbuster?
This is pretty much the one game in the series I've played more times than the others.
This game brings back memories.
damn good ones at that!
thx for making this review. But honestly, as objective as this review is, it doesn't do justice to the pure excellence of the game...a lot more praise should be given, frankly...
I'm actually playing this game on the PS3 (with the original PS black disc). It's fun as hell, a great game for any era and very challenging for today's standards.
Ah, the memories.
Back before my nephew came into existence and stole my entire physical PS1 collection, I had the platinum disc of this.
god watching some of the game play brings back so many childhood memorys. the things I do to have my ps1 with this game back again :/
1:15 I have heard this sound more than ANY other
i miss the old crash bandicoot it's kind of sad that the crash Era is over and Crash Bandicoot is dead :( i remember playing this as my first crash game (since i played it when i was little i only remembered seeing Cortex's floating head) and then i played Crash Bash and i remembered running from a snowball and getting crushed by it and swimming through mud those were the days. If someone asked me what a 3d mario game would look like before super mario 64 came out, this would've been my guess.
The scientist enemies with the glasses remind me of Eustace Bagge from Courage the Cowardly Dog they look very similar.
That's funny, because in the levels 'Digging it' and 'Bee-Having', I think the men that have the hammers that slam Crash when he's underground look like Eustace!
+YeeYee456 Well they both have those mallets haha
MrTHEMONEEMAKER lol yeah! hahaha
It took you guys long enough to review this classic.
Oh the days back in early '98, playing this over at a friend's house, then running over to parents and begging for them to buy it, luckily my dad liked the first game so he bought it that same day. I was a spoiled kid, lol.
Mine too! Next to Spyro, Jak, Parappa, Sonic, Kingdom Hearts, and Final Fantasy
it wasnt an alternative reality the 5 secret levels were hidden in the ruins of cortex castle after crash burned it down, proved by the amount of medivial bricks and banners with NC on them and the fact that island one and two is visible from there, but three isnt. there is always something so secret in crash games, like all of the coloured gems, that made you go, how would i ever learn that, that was there!
This is one of my favorite Playstation games when i was a kid :) . Crash Bandicoot 2 and Crash Bandicoot 3 are my favorite Crash games :)
That dance. That fucking dance. It's nostalgic and beautiful. I used to laugh my ass off at that. People thought I was weird for imitating it.
crash bandicoot made some of my best childhood moments
I like the 1st one more because it was more of a challenge.
"Remaster" from the ground up coming to PS4!! (Whole trilogy)
the question marks are bonus stages, there are real secrets there are harder to find, where you find a gem.
Ratchet & Clank is still alive, and Sly Cooper is brought back. I hope after the HD Collection for J&D they will continue with a 4th game.
The Question marks arent secret areas theyre bonus stages. From memory jumping down a hole and back tracking at the end of a polar bear level and the fake nitro box pyrimid thing they werent to obvious

just bought this game last week, i absolutely love it and it is a fantastic game (to bad the newer ones aren't as good though)
Nostalgia level 9000%. Odd thing is,That i always started with 2 second game first then the first.
Yup. Not only was it the easiest, but the "extra" polishing made it too little unique. I can see what you're saying. I was a RareWare guy in the 90's. Naughty Dog is king now but RareWare owned the 90's....
its funny how he said that this game popularized crash bandicoot when the first game made much more sales as the third best selling ps1 game at nearly 10 million sales.
This game's nostalgia...indescribable.
I loved all three first games of the series. (I don't hate the others, I just haven't played them)
Crash's dance still cracks me up :D
The PS1 Crash games look great on the PSP screen.
I bet they'd look even better on the Vita if it can play them, I should get a Vita soon.
STILL HAVE IT,STILL PLAY IT,STILL ENJOY IT,STILL WAITING FOR A HD COLLECTION REMAKE.
@MrTuri93 In case you didn't notice, this video is about crash :p
@RobbanFoxer There was a level of brainpower needed to beat games like this back in the day. For example: I love the CB series to this day. I beat them all 100% when I got older. my childhood is this game series
I think the third game is overall the best, but I always loved the final part of this game is in space.
I've just downloaded Fire Red and Leaf Green hoping to succeed this time
Yeah, its a shame Naughty Dog left the series behind, but if they hadnt we wouldnt have gotten Jak and Daxter, Uncharted, and the upcoming The Last of Us. As much as I love Crash, I'd say thats a good deal (especially considering we got 4 great Crash games before Naughty Dogs departure).

I've always hated how he says "LEFT?" It creeped me out.
omg i love your channel and videos!!!
let Matt do the Crash Bandicoot reviews!!!!
I'm just glad they haven't sold the rights to Jak and Daxter. They should have at least kept the rights in case they ever wanted a chance to create another one.
What is the theme song
I was really creeped out by N-Jin's voice when I first played this game.
@timic83tc
He never said that. He said it still has the charm and feel of a 2d platformer.
This game didn't improve on Crash Bandicoot 1, because there was nothing to improve. I may be lethally injected with nostalgia but that game will always be the most perfect game ever to me.
Such a great game...must've played through this one like 20 times...
probably my favorite one
Also, Crash didn't support an analog stick. What's up with that? It's impossible to control a 3D game with a D-pad. I wouldn't even bother trying.
I spent too many hours on that game back then.
I still spend too many hours on that game today.
bought it 3 day ago on psn :D brings back so many memories...
How does it control and is it DualShock compatiable?
What do you call a group of Bandicoots? A Band of Bandicoots!
yes, basic bonus levels are easy to spot. but that's not at all true for the hidden levels...
I´ve finished that game at 100% again today!
Or spyro? they were one of the biggest if not the biggest sellers for the PS1 :I
4:29 That is, until, the N Sane Trilogy came along.
They never officially did but they created him and could have done something to have kept the series.
@SuperDominator45 when in the warp room hold triangle when going up
My first game crash bandicoot 2 for the ps1 great awesome game back then I never new mario exsisted

+Faith Rich Yeah "Cold, Hard, Crash" I'm looking at you with your bullshit box hidden in the bonus room.
2:57
Way to do a fucking awkward dance right next to a dead guy
@LordoKarnage too bad Crash isn't Ninteno character (you think Sonic now....)
AND he hasn't appeared on a Nintendo platform
I'm loving all of these PS1 reviews.
I think I agree, but the third one is really good.
Which Naughty Dog are you referring to? how do u guys record your games
I Wish Naughty Dog was still making these games
the best 90's series, including spyro and resident evil
Only 90's kids will now how fun this game was
love the old crash games shame my PS2 keeps dieing on me.
idk if it was just me, but it was kinda challenging for me..Or I was just a noob at the game._.
Nostalgia ftw!
Yep.. Just got a Squirttle in Fire red ^^
indeed!!! I played so much of each game (the original trilogy) and on the third game I got 105%!!! :D
I LOVE this game, but it's to short.
My second favourite crash game ^_^ (the first being 3). The sewer music from this game shall forever be stuck in my head -_-
oooh Crash!!!so amazing memories...best game ever
well kingdom hearts is still going on... but you do have a good point!
Probably my favourite game ever.
