Months later, After watching your videos, and followed your advice: make sure she eats green leafy vegetables and the other food you mentioned. I also gave her eye supplements containing lutein, zeaxanthin. And she had to eat more berries. She also eat more fish and tomatoes. It worked! The one sure way not to get macular degeneration is to avoid seed oils (rapeseed/canola, soybean, corn, sunflower). There was practically no MCD at the beginning of the 20th century and its rise to 195 million cases worldwide now correlates very closely to seed/vegetable oils being introduced to Western diets. In places where people still eat ancestral diets and therefore avoid these oils, MCD is at very low levels. Take a look at the work of Chris Knobbe.
You didn't mention that chicken eggs are a rich source of lutein and zeaxanthin and they don't have the disadvantage that green vegetables have of containing oxalates, phytates, tannins and many other poisons that harm humans.
Thank you! My mother had wet AMD. It didn’t show up until she was in her nineties. I’m 76 and have dry AMD. My doctors want me to take the AREDS vitamins, but I have side effects. Your video about which foods to consume are a god-send.
I’m so glad you mentioned the side effects. I’m allergic to so many things it’s awful and my Dr gave me that too but I didn’t dare take it. I would MUCH rather eat beneficial natural food. This was fantastic to watch and learn from.
I’m just curious, what kind of side effects did you experience with the ARED’s? My dad has dry MD and he can barely see now at 84. He has other problems and can’t walk after covid pneumonia. He takes AREDS daily so I was just wondering what side effects I should watch for. Thank you in advance and sorry you have MD, it’s terrible there’s no cure yet.
My father had MD. I bought him the Areds vitamins and his vision improved! But I don’t smoke and I eat romaine lettuce bell peppers and take lutein and zeaxanthin supplements. And I eat fish every other day.
Excellent recommendations also for many other health issues. Salads (which are strong on fiber) before eating carbs (pasta, potatoes, pastries...) are good to flatten spikes of blood glucose. I have been on this for a year, with very positive results. Chua your greens!
THANK U DR.🤗.no amount of money could pay for this information u have given for free.i now know what changes I really have to make.i am 64yrs now having blurred vision all that is recommended is glasses.again thank u.🖕❤❤❤❤❤❤love from TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO.WE SALUTE U AND IF TH-cam GIVES OUT AWARDS U WILL BE THE FIRST ON THE LIST.🤗
Excellent video! Through DNA testing I learned I have two copies of the variant for macular degeneration. I now take the MacuGuard supplement from Life Extension Foundation and make more of an effort to eat leafy greens. 🙏
Thank you for the clearest explanation of both wet MD and Dry AMD, and the effects of each. Prevention and treatment explanations certainly excelled above what information our eye care providers were willing to impart. Feels like they want us to lose vision. Am now looking for a new eye care practice to get a second opinion and see how much preventive treatment they recommend as well as how to proceed to slow the increase of vision loss for both wet and dry macular degeneration.
True! Sadly, that's the way I feel too. Nowadays (looks like) doctors want and work for patients to become more ill...to perpetuate illness, instead to prevent and/or cure it.
All well and good, Dr Chua, but I have both wet and dry AMD, I have injections when necessary with Lucentis. As you know ,it can't be cured. I go to one of the best Eye clinics in Switzerland, with very well trained and specialized Doctors, Never in the last 3 years have I been told to eat Kale or Spinach or any diet. When I ask what causes AMD, they just say, we don't know. perhaps just old age.I am lucky that I went to check my eyes as soon as I started to see bent lines, and I can see quite well in the center of vision. i am not overweight , nor have my parents have suffered from it, and I have never smoked. Wishing you all the best, and hope your advice helps others.
This is good information. My father had AMD. I go to the eye doctor every year so that my eyes can be checked for glaucoma and macular degeneration. with the fancy equipment the eye doctor has, he can check very closely and in detail how the macula is doing.
great video!! I’m still young but genetic testing showed a higher than normal risk-I told my eye doctors and they monitor; glad to hear some of the foods I am already eating are protective!! I tried taking pills (AREDS) but that is expensive and hard for me to stick with. thank you for your content. You are helping people!
Dr . Chu t hank you for the excellent video. I just turned 80 last month, and have had pretty good vision ,though had to get glasses about 5 years ago Recently, i noticed something weard. Been taking vision vitamins ( just had a conversation with optometrist about AREDS and AREDS 2) for years. In the summer I eat mulberries right off the trees along my driveway. WMD runs in my family. Grandmother, Great Aunt, Mother, and a whole lot of the second cousins, descendants of my Great Aunt. Everybody who got it also developed alopecia so they seem to be linked. The alopecia hits first. I already got the alopecia. No sign yet of WMD
Sir, I am 55+ and I have missing vision spot in center for last over 20 years. Visited several eye docs and done few testing. No one, yes no one gave me any reason or explanation. You tell so clearly. May be eye professional I visited did not study that chapter in collage.
It is not obesity or BMI that contributes to this. What contributes mostly to poor eye health is what ACTUALLY CAUSES obesity, and that is high glucose levels. it’s really more simple than it is made out to be. Maintaining high glucose levels is the root cause from everything from cancer to kidneys to her to pancreas and yes eye health.
Dr Chua....tx so much...easy n simple explanation that any layman can understand n follow. Bless I m 73 n ve jus been diognisied w AMD.ll follow ur helpful tips to a T. Bless you .
Well I was told I had dry macular degeneration for 2 years in a row, and then when I called the office and asked why it was not listed in my paperwork and I get told you don't have it but I can't wear glasses because I still can't see and I get told to come back mind ya it's a 4 hour drive there and back and why would I want to see you again when you told me 2 years I have something and then I don't just to sell your products. I just went to a newer eye doctor, and he told me that I did not have it . Thank God at least he was up front with me and now I might be able to see like I should hoping that I will have the right prescription since the last 5 years no one would listen to me when I told them that the prescription that they gave me was not doing anything but making me feel like I was a drunk and I don't drink .
You recommend cooked green leafy vegetables. I wonder if raw vegetables would work as well. Thank you for explaining this excellent information so clearly!
Notice this is good advice for health in general. Body weight could be merely correlated with Macular Degeneration since being overweight likely means a bad diet and little exercise.
Thanks for this excellent video and valuable information Dr. Drs who share studies relating what works are a true blessing, especially more holistic approaches that are effective! I noticed after having a posterior vitreous detachment that my vision in that eye seemed less confidence inspiring while driving. And then noticed that straight lines had waves, and also a slight magnification. I had a friend years ago with a macular degeneration diagnosis who was told to keep her head down for two weeks??
@@evelynqueen2352my friend was in her mid 70’s I think. Her Dr apparently advised her to keep her head down, like on a desk or table, face down during the day for two weeks. I gathered this was to help counter the progression of her symptoms. I don’t know who her Dr was, and she has since passed. This was about 15 or so years ago. She had some wavy vision in one eye at the point of her diagnosis. Not sure, but in her case it may have helped the condition from worsening? You might do a search on this?
I’ve done all these thing the majority of my life and I still developed macular degeneration in my mind 40’s, I am 56 now and the central vision in my left eye is is already affected by geographic atrophy. None of these preventive measures worked for me, I was even a vegetarian for a good number of years with the exception of eating fish and I’ve always eaten fish all my life and ate a great deal of leafy greens as well, I never smoked in my life, I’ve always been active and actually Goji berries have more Zeaxanthin than any other food and I’ve always made tea with them almost every night. So, this leads me to believe, that nobody really knows the cause of macular degeneration and while these are helpful tips even to maintain a healthy life style, you can still develop it no matter.
@@Lauren-vd4qe That’s not true at all, some vegetables like carrots and spinach have benefits by eating them raw or cooked, some vitamins are better absorbed when the vegetable is cooked and Goji berries still retain their nutrients when when softened in water, they are the food with the highest amount of Zeaxanthin, no other food comes close. There is something else at play that triggers the recessive gene with my form of MD, my Ophthalmologist is a geneticist as well and she doesn’t know what triggers it exactly nor have they discovered the gene for MD before the age of 60, so the guidelines given here and by other eye doctors for prevention of ND are too general and aren’t usually that useful, for instance, smoking is one of the biggest triggers for the disease and I’ve never smoked in my life, I think they would be more honest by saying they don’t know than applying all these criteria to everyone because in my case they don’t know what’s caused mine. Also, here you go… Lutein Content in Foods Cooked Spinach 12.6 mg Raw spinach 6.6 mg Kale, cooked 8.9 mg Pumpkin 13.3 mg Chinese chive 18.2 mg Eggs (whole, cooked) .2 mg Pistachios (shelled) 1.5 mg Cilantro 7.7mg
It’s glycation and oxidative stress by eating carbs & sugars and vegetable oils. Eat lots of fatty fishes and red meats - avoid spiking your glucose and keep your fasting insulin below 4. Good luck
@@heysawtunI don’t have any issues with insulin, carbs and and sugars, so that’s not it. I eat fish every week and I eat red meat in moderation as well, I’ve taken fish oil since my 30’s, Nice try though, everyone seems to think they have the answer, but they don’t, I see a genetic Optimologist that knows a hell of a lot more than people commenting on TH-cam. You sound like you got your information from Joe Rogan.
Dear Dr, your presentations are vwey simple and clear to understanding, especially with your great lovely smiles all the times, God Bless and have a great happy new year full with happiness n prosperity , peace. Cheers
I have dry AMD and was told I have high risk of it turning wet, just today. I am so scared. If I take the eye supplements plus eat a lot of leafy greens is there a chance I could get too much of those nutrients? Also my eyes were dilated today and I had my sunglasses on driving home. But now I am worried they didn't provide enough UV protection while my eyes were dilated and could have done damage. My doctor told me today it's about life time exposure to UV light, not from one time. So that is helping. He said there is a 50-50 chance I will get wet AMD, so I am praying I will be in the 50 percent and it never turns wet. I am an artist (painter) and a singer. I cannot lose my vision. I am going to drastically improve my diet, go keto, get off sugar and all refined oils and take the vitamins as well. The doctor wants to see me again in 3 months for scans and an exam. I don't know if I carry the gene but even if I do, I would hope that doing all the right things from this moment forward will protect my eyes from ever going from the dry kind to the wet kind. Prayers help too. God bless you for your wonderful videos.
@Just Peachy thanks so much! Definitely don't smoke. But I am a singer and years ago they allowed smoking in the clubs. I am seeing a naturopath now who is also an acupuncturist and amazing! I feel more hopeful!!
Hello Doctor. Thank you for the excellent presentation, you called out all the advice that I have been given. I have dry AMD and am now eating leafy greens, red peppers, fish and egg. I was told to eat 1 egg per day (as it contains lutein). Also every day I eat blueberries for the antioxidants and nuts for the oils, vitamins and minerals. Incidentally for those trying to loose weight a handful of nuts does reduce feelings of hunger. I prefer, brazil nuts, walnuts and almonds. Simon (UK)
Excelente video. Its full of clues for further ways to slow, stop or reverse macular degeneration. Yes, reverse it. There are many ways of cleaning up unwanted cells, like the proteins found in dry type of mascular degeneration. For example, fasting does this but here are many new supplements, like Quercetin and Fisetin that do this as well. Vascular health, for the wet type, seems to be the key. One main way to do this is by eliminating sugar, white bread and all high glycemic foods. We just need to learn which work best for eyes. Doctors are taught to fall back on the, "its genetic" cause when they don't have an answer. However, its not the genetics we inherit that does us damage. Its the lifestyles that we inherit that do the damage, especially diet. In any case, epigenetics shows that these tendencies towards health problems can be swapped out for better genetic traits through lifestyle changes like diet, exercise, meditation and social interaction. I predict that macular degeneration will be a thing of the past when we stop seeing it as a medical problem that requires drugs and we start seeing it as a dietary or lifestyle problem.
Hi. Thank you for this excellent presentation. I do have MD, still dry thankfully. What types of fish are best? So many are contaminated but I eat salmon mostly and only wild caught.

@@jaimem1788 Well I have read that there is a surgery and also a medication that can help with macular degeneration. I plan to find out the details very soon and will return here to report.
Dr. Blumberg at Tufts University says, "One egg yolk provides approximately 200 micrograms of lutein, and lutein in eggs is 200-300 percent more bioavailable than vegetable sources of lutein.

In places where people still eat ancestral diets and therefore avoid these oils, MCD is at very low levels. Take a look at the work of Chris Knobbe.
Yeah I blame getting my at young age on diet for sure and processed foods!
You didn't mention that chicken eggs are a rich source of lutein and zeaxanthin and they don't have the disadvantage that green vegetables have of containing oxalates, phytates, tannins and many other poisons that harm humans.
I was wondering why eggs were not mentioned myself. I eat 3/day. Organic, pasture raised.
You're the clever one
Isn't that just spinach ?
@@sunshinegirl46601
@@sunshinegirl4660 nothing serious. I get burning in the vaginal area. I doubt your dad has that!
My father had MD. I bought him the Areds vitamins and his vision improved! But I don’t smoke and I eat romaine lettuce bell peppers and take lutein and zeaxanthin supplements. And I eat fish every other day.
Don't eat fish everyday that is not recommended try one or two times a week.
Thanks a lot par Doctor for explaining.
It from genetic .
U just eat egg everyday that rich in lutien and zeaxantine too help maintain the vision, or smd yhst u had now
Flawless presentation, dense with important facts! Thank you - well done!
Also, I totally believe in intermittent fasting and autophagy.
This is good information. My father had AMD. I go to the eye doctor every year so that my eyes can be checked for glaucoma and macular degeneration. with the fancy equipment the eye doctor has, he can check very closely and in detail how the macula is doing.
Thanks for the info.

great video!! I’m still young but genetic testing showed a higher than normal risk-I told my eye doctors and they monitor; glad to hear some of the foods I am already eating are protective!! I tried taking pills (AREDS) but that is expensive and hard for me to stick with. thank you for your content. You are helping people!
Thank you so much Doc! You did a fantastic job in public education.
Thank you for this info. I would much rather improve my diet and lifestyle than have this get worse.
Dr . Chu t hank you for the excellent video. I just turned 80 last month, and have had pretty good vision ,though had to get glasses about 5 years ago Recently, i noticed something weard. I’ve been to drs and specialists for over a month now and they not sure what’s going on. And this Dr explains everything I’m experiencing, white spots and swelling on the retina
eating Ceviche(raw fish peruvian style) twice a week.. from Halabut or white meat fish I have noticed that the time between treatment injections for wet amd has increased significantly from 3 months to 4.. that is major. Also have a daily spinach smoothie with bannanas, almond milk, and frozen straberies.. it works.
Very informative. Superb !!!!!👍👍
Great video. Thanks dr Michael. I just did the grid test, so far, so good
Good to hear! Thanks for your support
Hi Doc, could you please tell grid eye chart is only to see wet AMD?

Been taking vision vitamins ( just had a conversation with optometrist about AREDS and AREDS 2) for years. In the summer I eat mulberries right off the trees along my driveway.
WMD runs in my family. Grandmother, Great Aunt, Mother, and a whole lot of the second cousins, descendants of my Great Aunt. Everybody who got it also developed alopecia so they seem to be linked. The alopecia hits first.
I already got the alopecia. No sign yet of WMD
Excellent source of scientific information and well presented.
Sir, I am 55+ and I have missing vision spot in center for last over 20 years. Visited several eye docs and done few testing. No one, yes no one gave me any reason or explanation. You tell so clearly. May be eye professional I visited did not study that chapter in collage.
Everyone has a small blind spot in the middle. It’s because there are no photoreceptors where the optic nerve passes through the retina.
Very informative. Ur smile is so enticing
Good job. Thanks. Age 72 and eyes are showing problems. Good to know this information.
Thanks for this great video! We learned so much!
Wow! You are clear and thorough, thanks.

Great video. Thank you Dr. Chua. I put the eye chart on the mirror in the bathroom. That way I don't forget.
What a great idea. Thanks for your comment!
Thank you for spreading this valuable wisdom on proper eye care!
Thanks for this excellent video and valuable information Dr.
Drs who share studies relating what works are a true blessing, especially more holistic approaches that are effective!
I noticed after having a posterior vitreous
detachment that my vision in that eye seemed less confidence inspiring while driving. And then noticed that straight lines had waves, and also a slight magnification.
I had a friend years ago with a macular degeneration diagnosis who was told to keep her head down for two weeks??
Would you please elaborate on that last sentence, please?
@@evelynqueen2352my friend was in her mid 70’s I think. Her Dr apparently advised her to keep her head down, like on a desk or table, face down during the day for two weeks. I gathered this was to help counter the progression of her symptoms.
I don’t know who her Dr was, and she has since passed.
This was about 15 or so years ago.
She had some wavy vision in one eye at the point of her diagnosis.
Not sure, but in her case it may have helped the condition from worsening?

Yes many vidéos are alije est végétale....not enojgh i agréé with you
eat the berries raw, if u heat any fruit or veggie almost always the holistic benefits are lost.
Also, here you go…

No one wants to go blind no matter their profession
Thank you Thank you so much for enlightening us with your knowledge. It was very helpful
Simon (UK)
very informative & well explained
Are they any hope for this disease in the future? I mean if are there any research’s or studies based on technologies or steam cells around the world?
