When you say, "treatment" do you mean injections of Avastin? Research of this drug says that it is chemotherapy and is used in breast cancer treatment and not approved by the FDA injections of the eye. I've been getting these injections into my eyeball for over a year and my vision has not improved. My Dr. has not mentioned one thing about diet or supplements which could improve the situation. My primary care doctor is useless, as is my ophlamologist. About to fire them both and go to Naturopathic medicine.
I was born severely nearsighted with little to no night vision, and have had a complete retinal detachment in my right eye at age 19. At age 45, I've been diagnosed with macular degeneration, but I don't recall the details or severity that I have of it. I was in too much of shock to really let it sit in. I know that I need to see a retinal specialist ASAP, and I'm honestly scared to death. I have 4 and 5 year old boys, and I'm scared to no end that I won't be able to provide for my family within the next few years. It's getting harder and harder to focus on my computer screen. Now I'm here, watching videos like this, feeling a bit shaken before making the call I need to make. I'm sure many of you are feeling this way too, it's a terrible feeling.
Wishing you the best. So sorry you have to deal with this challenge and I hope you find the answers you need to cope much better than you ever thought possible! Be encouraged that this can improve! Hugs!
@@RADERFPV Have you looked into the MTHFR connection to this? My father had macular degeneration very bad in his later years. I have the MTHFR gene mutation and the beginning signs of waviness. I dug deep and found out there can be a connection between the MTHFR gene mutation causing poor methylation, and in turn causing macular degeneration. I’ve just touched the surface of this and I’m pretty sure my mutation came from Dad’s side since he had AMD and I am in the beginning stages. It’s at least worth looking into. We who deal with this must look at it from all angles. There are not many eye doctors who consider this or have an understanding of it. I was told nothing can be done. That is not true and never believe that…there is always a way or ways to overcome! Hope this helps!
@@determination0072 Thank you so much, I appreciate your insight. My eye problems are genetic as well, running on my Mom's side. The females are the carriers and aren't directly impacted, while 50% of the male children will have the conditions. I have 2 brothers, one has all the problems I have, and and the other has great vision. Retinal detachments, iritis, extreme nearsightedness (grew up wearing coke bottle glasses since 6 months), cataracts, all early on. Plus I have a lazy eye as a bonus, lol :) I'm so used to it all, that's it's all I really know. I'm just so very thankful to have what vision I do have, I treasure it more than anything. I'll look into this further, thanks again.
I've been 37 years on insulin with pretty good control. I have just been diagnosed with Macular Degeneration. My search for information about it has led me to the scary corners of the internet. Most of us at some point "ask Google" and scare the wits out of ourselves. This video was excellent. Thank you for making it. it was informative and reassuring.
Extremely knowledgeable and helpful, I just wish that this information would be available more to general public to create more awareness of the symptoms and treatments. Thanks for the very concise and clear introduction to the macular degeneration.
This is a tremendously valuable video! Thank you so much for making this, and sharing it with us! I have a good RS who has explained a lot to me, but this covers much more detail, and I know I am now better informed, and prepared to take appropriate action as the changes occur!
I honestly think this is due to all the screens we look at I am early 30’s and getting this I believe It showed up in a genetic test that I am more likely to get it and have been getting increasingly weaker vision in one eye, the rate of decline has been most rapid during lockdown as I would spend almost all day looking at screens for social and work reasons Was blessed with clear eyesight and took it for granted Thank God it’s isn’t affecting both eyes
Sept. 2024..See your optomotrist to get contacts each year. At age 65 he said omi needed to see an optomologist ( eye dr). Boy glad i did! I had WMD! She sent me to retina specialist and i had shots for 1 yr every 4 months. Bleeding has stopped. I researched as nd really trying to eat greens, less sugar. Trying keto which jelps .
Thanks Professor Aslam. That was enlightening. I was diagnosed with Wet Macular Degeneration some years ago and ths advice I was given was to eat lots of Broccoli! I was told that there were no current treatments. I'm living in Thailand now and not sure if any of the treatments you mentioned are available. I'll be returning to the UK in April for around 6 weeks so I'll be heading straight to the GP's when I get back. Thank you.

My father has been diagnosed with wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and recently, his vision has become fully blurry, leaving him unable to see clearly. We are deeply concerned about his condition and would appreciate your expert guidance on potential treatment options or any measures that could help alleviate his symptoms. Could you please advise on the best course of action or any available treatments? We would also appreciate any recommendations for managing this condition and improving his quality of life.
Doctors are well equipped with technology but this is where incompetence comes in. My mum was having 7 months of scanning, they found MD during her first visit and then wasted 7 months doing nothing rather than treating her. Monash Hospital Melbourne ophthalmology is one of such incompetent departments
my dad has vasculitis which they didnt treat even after being told he had it, he now has macular degeneration too. One of the biggest cause of illness is still negligence. i never give authority to these people because sadly most of them are idiots. you have to always ask questions with doctors.
Hello am from Tanzania, I have been diagnosed with Macular degeneration with 800 mm size. My doctor says an operation can't be done on my eye bse with his experience such gap can't be closed bse it is twice the size that can be healed through an operation which is any thing within 400 mm. What is your advise doctor?
Having just been diagnosed with Wet AMD in one of my eyes, this video has been very helpful in explaining what has been going on. Because my other eye has been compensating all along, I hadn’t realised how bad my sight in one eye had become. I’m currently getting monthly injections into my eye.
@JP Vlogs04 Not at all. The idea is way worse than the actual procedure. Your eye is so numbed up by drops beforehand that all you feel is some pressure. Be sure to have dark glasses though for afterwards if going outside because as your eyes are dilated, the sun really bothers them for a few hours.
@JP Vlogs04 No. Wet AMD is characterised by a grey blur right in the centre of your vision. Perhaps you mean you are seeing things like spider webs or shadows on the edge of your vision? If so, I think that reflects another condition. Get it checked with your Optician and with an Ophthalmic Surgeon if need be, to be on the safe side. Your vision is too important to ignore it.

Eye pressure goes to 29 when I feel eye strain and pain..otherwise normal..no other diseases or family history of blindness. I know my ferritin levrl is 2, I have heavy bleeding for periods after 2nd C section, a year ago...and no Iron was supplemented, as per doctor, Hb level is normal..10?..reading is harder compared to before...studies not complete yet. ...have two little ones.... non-smoker..lives in Canada...is retinal transplantation possible at this very early stage? Which is the best way to contact you doctor? Please..thanks...
