Wells is almost forgotten today . Sci Fi fiction is everywhere now but he should be among the most highly honoured .! He gave us this AND War Of The Worlds..!! What an achievement..!!
I agree, it's a very influential film in the long run, too. The funny thing is, every office I ever worked in always had the IT department in the basement and I often thought of The Time Machine when I considered the weird division between the technologically capable subterranean staff and their daylight-walking colleagues above...
Sorry but this production is simply a mess. Lots of grunting , bellowing and cringe conversations in a made up language. H G Wells comes across as pontificating old fart and the central thesis of the original story is barely touched upon.. An utterly pointless effort and a waste of the talents of all involved. Wells deserves much better than this..!!

TTM is one of my favorites. Read it when i was ten.
I still think the 1960 film is the best version even if the allegory of class warfare is muted.
