Glad you're enjoying these readings, they're definitely a radio classic. Sadly they only adapted five of the books, but it still makes for a wonderful journey...

Thank you for being so delicate in pointing out that I'd got the wrong details in the description. I've corrected that now, and can confirm that the reader is Mark Bonnar. He has a great voice, but he's also a pretty high-profile TV actor who's appeared in lots of comedy, and dramas like The Line of Duty. World on Fire and Shetland. But he has a lot of audio credits too, happily.

Terrifying, isn't it? I can remember falling asleep during episode 5 because I had blood poisoning. On the upside - no school the next day!

@@MichealBurnett Many thanks. There is also a third play by Alick Rowe, 'Crisp and Even Brightly' - about the 'true story' of Good King Wenceslas. I'll be putting that on the channel around Christmas, I think, but you might be able to find it elsewhere on youtube if you can't wait til then.

You might also like Marina Warner's 'Managing Monsters', which were originally presented as six lectures for the BBC. I guess it's worth saying that if you like these stories by Lucy Wood, there were only five readings on BBC radio but I believe this is only a selection of the stories in the book.

You would probably enjoy his other two sci-fi novels - I have unabridged readings of both on the channel, 'Out of the SIlent Planet' and 'Perelandra'. His vision of Mars is rather fascinating...

And yet E. Nesbit was one of the original Fabian socialists, so I suspect she was being more complicated than you're giving her credit for here. For example, the episode where the Phoenix visits a bank and creates a Phoenix-worshipping cult out of the workers is somewhat suggestive of strong opinions about capitalism. All of which said, I know what you mean at the surface level at least, and obviously I agree about Mogg.

Then I should let you know that BBC Wales did two of these series - I'll be posting the second next week - but then Radio 4 did a play (with a new cast, sadly) which, as far as I'm aware, was completely new and not based on one of the books. That'll be up in a couple of weeks.

There was a second series, which I've got coming up - and then Radio 4 did their own one-off play, which I don't think was based on one of the books. That's in the schedule too...

I've got a reading of the sequel (Three Men on a Bummel) by Hugh Laurie, too - though the choice of music dividing each episode has proved controversial...
