A true gem 💎 associated with Japanese literature.📖 Since 2020, the JR-East Safir Odoriko E261 Limited Express series has been running special tourist services between Tokyo and Shinjuku - Izukyu-Shimoda to Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, famous for its hot springs. Safir, a jewel symbolizing literature Odoriko is a character from the book Izu no Odoriko (The Dancer of Izu) by Nobel Prize winner Yasunari Kawabata. The design of Ken Okuyama's E261 series is inspired by the ocean and blue sky of the Izu peninsula in Shizuoka prefecture. The E261 series is used exclusively on Saphir Odoriko services, unlike the MOHA 251 series built between 1990 and 1992, which was used until 2020, when it was replaced by the E257 series, which was renovated and reassigned to the Tokaido main line. Built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, the two first-class trains comprise eight aluminum cars, five of which are equipped with active suspension bogies for added comfort. The first "Premium Green Car" features 20 high-end seats arranged in pairs, while the next two cars are equipped with private compartments each accommodating four or six people. Most of the seats are inspired by those of the E5 series mini-shinkansen. The dining car in the middle of the train serves Udon, Ramen and other Japanese noodle specialties. Congratulations and bon appétit 😋
