Fire in background, occured 10/10/15. Sadly, one person was killed. Response was delayed due to no 911 calls until the fire was into the roof. Don't think someone else will call, do it now.
For those wondering why he opened the hydrant so slow. It’s to avoid damaging the pump on the truck. If you open the valve to fast you’ll cause what’s known as a “water hammer” to occur and it will damage the actual impellers of the pump.
In the Netherlands we dont have hydrant above the ground, we have a spot in the ground, and the fireman has a hydrant in his car. th-cam.com/video/ut9YzB7MlJk/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=HighlyCombustibleReacts

Dylan Maxard well the fire does look decently big so they might be tasked with covering exposures, and there could be another engine somewhere closer but i couldnt tell you w/o their explanation
THANKYOU FOR FILMING LANDSCAPE (reason why this video went viral not the guy in front of you) and being a great camera man! We need more people like you.
Ummm... I've seen a fireman jump into the roof of the building next to us, hanging down using a rope and smashing the widow to get inside the 3rd floor. All that just to make sure no one was left inside because the people next door couldn't remember if they forgot about anyone (it was empty). It took him a while to get out and it was scary af. Respect to all of those risking their lives to protect others. And fuck the neighbors for not remembering if they left someone inside.
Golden Corral sucks. I got very sick from the food there before. Just imagine all the shit that comes out of the air and lands on the food and how long that food has been sitting there.
The yellow stuff coming ot of hydrant is rust and dirt, you have too flush them first before hose hook up so it does not clog your nozzle up,we have yellow fire trucks here in Las Vegas also ( Clark County Fire ).As far as hooking up, it does no good too get too a fire without a water supply, what the engine carries in water will last about 5 minutes on a big fire.
Jennifer Webb when working in manual labor, there's this thing called "pacing yourself," thee guys are about to run headfirst into a fire, they need to conserve their energy during the "smaller" tasks. No they're not.. All hydrants are ASTM A325 regarding thread direction...So; your wrong...But, some saws and some older autos (mopar) had opposite direction...Also, boat propellers are opposite thread...
@@godbluffvdgg no, not all hydrnats follow the same spec. There are open left and open right hydrants. It's up to the city/municipality/water district to spec what type and style of hydrants they allow int heir system. All major hydrant manufacturers can make OL and OR hydrants to accommodate this. The standards are more like guidelines and are not forced rules.
Lol i looked up your astm A325 out of curiosity. Its the International standard for heavy hex structural bolts! This has nothing to do with hydrant standards! You should read AWWA C502 and C503. The link to Juneau Alaska's spec just shows my point a bit more. They say in their spec that only Open Left hydrants are allowed. But hydrant do NOT all open the same direction.
This looks like Florida or California the hydrant is old as hell this guy did a very good job at what he did he flushed it because the hydrant probably has not been opened by the Township in many years so there's not going to be any debris in the $10,000 pump and they are block and a half away from the fire they are a backup crew a fill site extra water he has his time to make sure everything is done correctly and that truck will never to be reset again so unless you know you're talking about and you've been that way before and done that before and that same scenario because no two are ever the same then you can talk to your shit.
Corey Krepps It depends on the situation how close your truck is to the fire hydrant how much line you have out how long it takes you to hook up. Set up once set up right. In most rural settings you have a lot of sediment
Corey Krepps First of all if you don't know what you are talking about leave it Secondly they have time the engine holds water in a tank It is enough for about 3 min depending on fire engine If this dirty water will get in the pump there is a high possibility of damaging the pump
Brenter u need water fast period end of story that dirty water is not going to damage a pump I don't kno what kind of old ass pump u run but my shit can handle the discoloration of water
That’s a clow dry barrel hydrant. I’m a utility technician and I do maintenance on those all the time. Also FYI I was stationed here from 2015-2018 in the army. Good times, miss this place.
The orange water is the rust and sediment in the underground water line and fire hydrant when it is released like that. That's why homes and business suffered and little discoloration of their fresh drinking water for a little in that area. The Firefighters are pacing themselves because they're going to work their asses off!
Very professional fire department! Love how they were not rushing him and let him take his time to properly flush the hydrant and get the attack line on.

When I was a probie, I was taught that when you pull the five-inch line and "catch the plug" the first thing you do is wrap the hose once around the plug and then STAND ON IT and tell the driver to TAKE OFF! This makes sure the hose and coupling don't get dragged down the street, looking bad. Then you get the cap off the plug, set the wrench on the top screw, then attach the coupling onto the plug. After the pumper gets into position and hooks up, he'll signal you when to start water.
best practice, first time opening fire hydrant, open slowly, in opening fast could possibly break the rod that opens the valve 10 ft below, then no water . also air pressure that's being release from high pressure water entering the pipe, could explode the pipe causing underground leak. main break
Shouldn't be standing in front of the caps, imo. Was drilled into me when I got my certs/training. If one of those isn't on properly, the water pressure could blow it out and take out whatever is in it's way. Backseat driving I know.
You should always check the ports to see if they're tight and as long as one port is open the water can be discharged and pressure won't build up inside the hydrant. Assuming that you didn't turn the operating nut
I like all the people asking why the water is dirty. It’s dirty because sediment, corrosion, and scaling builds in the water main, most hydrants are tapped off the main with a 6” service line and are basically small dead ends in the distribution system. If the hydrants are not flushed regularly, you get the dirty water when opened. People would have to be willing to pay more public workers to operate and flush all the hydrants for them to never have discoloration, it would be a full time job, but everyone hates taxes so.... connect the dots. I doubt we want to throw that to the private sector. Random minimum wagers operating city hydrants.... so basically the hydrants just sit and rot.

After the pumper gets into position and hooks up, he'll signal you when to start water.
1:44 You're Welcome.
best practice, first time opening fire hydrant, open slowly, in opening fast could possibly break the rod that opens the valve 10 ft below, then no water . also air pressure that's being release from high pressure water entering the pipe, could explode the pipe causing underground leak. main break
Give me your knowledge oh great one

Underrated Work, everywhere in the world
With all the "Professional Firefighters" in the comments on this video, it's a miracle that any fire gets put out since they're all on TH-cam.

Stone Keys exactly, completely disrespectful to the firefighter, get out of his way and let the man do his work instead of nearly bumping into him.
Hahah.. play that scene couple of times in a row..
Shouldn't be standing in front of the caps, imo. Was drilled into me when I got my certs/training. If one of those isn't on properly, the water pressure could blow it out and take out whatever is in it's way.
Backseat driving I know.
Eric E: that's different, and only a problem if somebody does 20 turns on top before removing the cap.
You should always check the ports to see if they're tight and as long as one port is open the water can be discharged and pressure won't build up inside the hydrant. Assuming that you didn't turn the operating nut
It is 2 AM and I have a final exam in some days and here I'm watching THE FIREMAN. #fire #fireman
