There are a few reasons these two never came back: 1) their models were shared with ‘Arry and Bert who could be used frequently without needing Diesel 10 and 2) merchandising. Hit and Mattel wanted to invest in new characters, and as much as I like Paxton and Sydney, I do kinda miss Splatter and Dodge. Out of nostalgia, I do like Magic Railroad somewhat, and I do sometimes wish we could’ve seen more of the two since they made for mildly amusing gormless henchmen.
I covered the models being shared with Arry and Bert part but totally forgot about merchandising. Introducing new characters equals greater ability to make and sell toys of them. Splodge could have been in that category too considering it was so long since they've been available in stores, but Learning Curve re-releasing them in 2011 at the same time as DOTD is definitely suspicious. I felt like they could have also spur sales of them since they are diesels.
Spatter and Dodge were mean to return in Day Of The Diesels and The Great Race as Cameos but they got dropped and replaced by Paxton,Sydney and the Mainland Diesels which is such a shame
That's true but Thomas wasn't afraid of the claw in TATMR so who knows. Might be some inconsistency with continuity or an excuse for the plot to happen in CAE. It's also been a long time since I've watched CAE and we're talking 15+ years here.
Just got finished watching the reaction video on Matt's channel. And I will say I find it so weird that you hadn't seen Magic Railroad until now. But hey, the deeds been done. In terms of wooden railway Splatter and Dodge, they are pretty good models in fact, I actually have a normal splatter and Dodge with Splatters face. I hope to pick up a normal Dodge sometime soon. And maybe try to find a Splatter with Dodge's face because since they share the same expression in the movie, it means they technically have alternate faces so I guess that's a plus. Overall, great review, Roberto.
great video as both a review of their wooden models and an analysis of their characters. underused mario music itches my brain too hehe i love the world 2 nsmb theme
Thank you! I love using Nintendo music as the background of my chat videos. even when I made a series it always had some Nintendo music mixed with Thomas.
Its funny how the most realistic characters to come from the movie are the only ones never to appear again while Ms. Magic and Mr. Claw do But i guess thats the power of Marketability
Capsule wind up models kept making Splatter and Dodge whenever new diesel 10 is new capsule wave going back then, though they didn't bother make Arry and Bert for whatever unknown reason later they made Paxton and Sidney which is unexpected for capsule plarail to make them
These two characters were wasted potential because they ended up being useless in the final version of TATMRR. Still, I wished they returned in Day of the Diesels and the Great Race just so they could have a second chance and some more recognition for modern audiences.
I agree. I really thought Britt should've had someone else sit and write TATMR with her because of how the movie portrays certain characters with either minimal content or wasted potential.
I think splatter and dodge could work if they played a bigger part in the movie. Like for instance Diesel 10 could send them out to spy on the steam engines and throughout the movie they see that steam engines aren't bad and so they wouldn't help Diesel 10 destroy them. In fact they could try to help lady and Thomas get away from him in the climax like push trucks in his way during the Chase scene.
And have their characters be fully shown like Splatter's talkative trait and Dodge's intelligence and be like in How Diesel 10 Stole Christmas to make them more likable and funny.
what's fun about Splatter and Dodge for me is the fact there's barely anything to them in official media. you can mold their character traits to your own liking or stories.
My theory is that splatter and dodge disappeared to somewhere they aren’t scene and plus magic railroad isn’t cannon and if they returned In day of the diesels then it will be their true introduction.
Splatter and Dodge appears in How Diesel 10 Stole Christmas from Sudrian Stories and their portrayal is so awesome and much better than in Magic Railroad.

I wanted to see the duo in DOFTD..

Deep down inside it would have been cool to see them back. Especially in DOTD.
I do kind of miss this duo, they were the Jasper and Horace of the franchise for me lol.
7:03 i think the reason stated in Calling all Engines is the crunching crushing claw,
Which, fair
That and he’s fucking big

Yes that is a plus how you can have alternate facial expressions with them!
the strange case of dodge and splatter
splatter or ddodge?
Parker I stg

Nice video and by the way, may I ask what background music was used at around 10:50 in the video?
Thank you! It's the Toad Town music from the first Paper Mario
@@LNERFlyingScotsman No problem, nice to know and thank you very much!

Gee it’s almost like they’re reskins of the whole in joke why every new diesel happens to be a class 08 shunter
Guess that explains why Diesel 10 fired Splatter and Dodge
Splatter and dodge almost made it in another movie. And Easter egg if another episode.

Also titled "The WEIRDEST Characters in Thomas and Friends: An Analysis on Dodge And Splatter.
This troubles me lol
Splatter and Dodge appears in How Diesel 10 Stole Christmas from Sudrian Stories and their portrayal is so awesome and much better than in Magic Railroad.
One grammar error by switching up the names on the box made this video 25% longer lol
Why there’s a giant Boss Baby logo
7:00 I don’t think anything past Thomas and The Magic Railroad (2000) is canon…
Show changed for the worst, despite some glimmers in S6 (2002).
Til the Brenner era came along and made the show better again for a while.
Season 6-7 Are still part of the Classic Era, the good outweighs the bad.
Splatter and Dodge are more or less comic relief.
As a kid, Thomas and the magic were great. Now, the acting is cring as hell.
