- Who doesn't love a 2 stroke. They don't come much better than this stunning 1996 Honda RS250. This recently finished restoration and rebuild is ran up for the first time. The urge to take to the track and let it do whats its built to is almost unbearable! What doesn't come across in the video is the fluro orange paintwork on this machine.... simply stunning!

The sound of a proper real race bike, power to weight ratio there's nothing comes close with the 2 stroke, and they handle.

you can get 90bhp out of these, if not more and i think they weigh around 220lbs, so almost 2lbs per bhp. Slower SR250 models had like 50ish bhp stock. We race the 125cc SR where i live, and they bought a fleet of them from Japan, proper GP race model with 39bhp, and they do 70mph in 1st gear and top out 140mph. The SR250 is basically DOUBLE that engine, so the potential is there indeed.... even Honda admitted the NSR500 can be tuned to make over its common 200bhp, therefore exceeding 400bhp/liter.

How hard would it be to start without the rollers? Its a 250...
The rollers let you start it in the garage, without clogging up pit lane and potentially having some sort of incident. But I do agree with you, not hard to bump start if everything is working properly. I used to own an RG 500, and at one point, because I had a crook knee due to playing footy, it was easier, and much less painful, to bump start it than kick the old girl over. Just needed to find the right spot to park, with a bit of downhill exit.

i have a 1987 honda rs250rf. does it take a 16 volt battery to start it? or does it start like a 2stroke dirt bike without a battery? i would like to start it before i sell it on ebay. any info would be appreciated.
