I hate the idea that getting your period is ‘becoming a woman’. I was 11 years old when I got mine 😭 a literal child. And it just seems like they think becoming a woman is about your ability to reproduce and have children.

Same! I got mine literally a month after I turned 10- and everyone was like “awww you have become a woman!” Ma’am I am literally a child 😀

Yeah, also wth are they also called "sanitary products". I mean that could literally apply to so many things lol. Vague and stigmatising label all around.

    • @raccoontrashpanda1467
      @raccoontrashpanda1467 3 ปีที่แล้ว +30

It makes as much sense as the labelling on any other supermarket aisle, they list 2 or 3 products that are on that aisle and anything else there you just have to guess and hope it makes some vague sense, which it often doesn't. Lemon juice in the bakery aisle rather than the juice aisle? Soy sauce in the international aisle rather than the sauce aisle?
Plus feminine hygiene products are more than just period products, what about wet wipes PH balanced to a vagina, or soap free body wash also PH balanced to a vagina for people with sensitive skin who can't use other products? How about we just call them "personal hygiene products" and put them all in a personal hygiene aisle with the other personal hygiene products so you know where to look for all things in that category?

hey bud I know that must feel like a nice thing, but I think you might need to get your hormones checked. my ex didn’t get their period for several months and it turns out they had a (benign) pituitary tumor that was messing with their hormones. that, or you might not be getting enough nutrition and your body has stopped being capable of getting a period, which is also very hard on your organs and overall health over a long period of time. either way I would strongly suggest getting that checked out.

As there are a few people here gloating about not getting periods regular I feel I got to point out that it’s very important that you get that checked out. I’ve had irregular periods all my life and I was eventually diagnosed with PCOS. I haven’t had a period in 2-3 years because I gained weight which makes the symptoms worse. I love that I don’t get my period but soon if it doesn’t come back I’ll be going on medication to force a period because you can actually develop cancer if you don’t have a period at least every 3 months when you have PCOS. So it’s important you investigate what the issues are especially if you want to take testosterone as I don’t know if that’s something you can do if you have PCOS. Reason being that if you have PCOS you actually have higher testosterone levels than you should and sadly our bodies do not like that and I presume that it’s harmful to us. You’d have to do your own research to find out but please do look into it 🙏

Personally I stuffed toilet paper in my underwear for like a year until I bled through and my mom found out. I don't know how long I was thinking that was gonna work out for me. Before that I was convinced I was never gonna get it, or hit puberty, so when the girls in my grade got a pamphlet about periods in the mail I denied getting one when my classmates were talking about it. Also refused to wear bras until I was 14 and instead wore a tight tank top underneath, or a scarf, or hoodies to hide my chest. Had no idea I was trans because I didn't know trans men existed and when I found out they did I was immediately in denial.

It's so good to see discussion on this. I was born female. I am nearly 50 years old and I started periods at 10 years old. I hated it. And there was no place like this for discussion back then, nowhere to discuss your body changing and being told you need to start behaving like a young lady and stop being a "tomboy". I am so very pleased that there is more information out there now for young people about gender and gender identity. I am only just now realising that whilst my "equipment" is female, it does not define my entire gender identity. I am happy to now say "no I don't feel 100% female" I feel that I am more gender neutral now and am happy with this. So much love to you Noah and to all of you out there what ever your gender, identity, sexuality etc. Embrace your own way and live it to the full...coz believe me 50 comes round bloody quick

IMPORTANT PSA: A lot of people who have very painful periods actually have endometriosis! If you have very painful periods it is a good idea to bring this up with a doctor! It might not be endometriosis, but it is very underdiagnosed because a lot of people think it's just normal to have so much pain. For something that can be potentially serious (causing internal scarring or fertility loss), it is surprisingly common in people with uteruses. So just be aware! Peace ✌🏼

    • @bigcody2657

    • @kiralonely1307
      @kiralonely1307 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@justanotherpotato5523 I get that, but from a different point of view. I'm actually trans, a trans man, like women or woman isn't nearly as bad as being called female for me. I am male, to me I'm more or less a man with a hormonal imbalance starting in utero, leading to a genital defect, I am more predisposed to female stuff, but calling myself or being called female makes me way way more dysphoric than being called a woman.
People think it's okay because it's "scientific" but what determines sex is a lot more than genitalia or how you reproduce, and I have a lot more factors related to men in terms of smell, pheromones, oil, hormone levels, how I look, and how I feel. To me, in terms of identifying sex, that's more accurate. Sort of a variation of being male.
Now, I mean, I don't say I'm cis, I'm certainly trans and I've never been ashamed of being trans, but I'm not female. It feels so gut-wrenching when people say that. Like "female diseases" is okay in terms of like what I'm more at risk of, but even calling my genitals "female" is weird after having learned how very very very similar the two reproductive systems are, ig. To me, mine are male, but when through the wrong development, and it just feels wrong to be referred to as female, like someone referring to you using a random name. "Oh, your name's John? You look like a Hunter. I'm gonna call you Hunter." And then referring to your things as "Hunter's". Like, you know who they're talking about, and it makes sense, logically, but it feels gross and kinda like you're being mocked or betrayed. Not that you think Hunter's a bad name, just it's not really your name.
I dunno. But yeah, I get that feeling to a degree. For me, it really sucks, cause people LOVE to talk about how "you may be a man, but you're still female, your body is still female" and rub it in your face, and it's so gross and makes me very irritable when I normally try to stay calm, even when people wish me harm or insult me.
Although, also for me, calling myself a man or a woman for years, and even now, (only woman in reference to before I recognized my identity) it feels weird. That word brings to mind business suits and adult stuff, and I'm over here like, hA no. I usually say "guy" a lot in placement, and girl/women in placement of female identifying people. I generally prefer using AFAB or AMAB though tbh.

Advice for trans mascs who still get their period: get a menstrual cup. A lot of the time you can order one online, so no going into the shops for tampons, and you'll never need tampons again. You have to empty it only about 2-3 times a day, so you don't have to think about your period too much. This way it's also a lot easier to go into public bathrooms, because you won't need a bin for period products. If you do need to empty it while you're in there, it's possible to just wipe it down with some toilet paper.
I have one and I haven't had to buy tampons in over a year 😁

And also where I live menstrual products in stores are all located in the same aisle as all hygiene-products, like it's all in the same place? So no "feminine products" aisle? My mum and I are quite comfortable around each other so when I did eventually get my first period she was actually in the bathroom at the same time as me and I excitedly showed her my bloody piece of toilet paper, while loudly exclaiming that I had started, and there was nothing wrong with my reproductive system after all 😂
Anyway I'm glad at least your dad was cool about it, I'm really grateful that neither of my parents are awkward about it. I even trained my dad and brother out of referring to pads as "ladies' things" lol, and just calling them what they are.

Idk... she struggled with depression and anxiety during most my childhood years, so might have been a bad day for her, and finding my bloody underwear tipped her off the latter? But yeah luckily my dad is the one I can go to for everything no matter what... but when I was younger he had a job that meant he had to travel a lot? So he was gone like almost weekly, all around Europe... he even had an apartment in Denmark for quite some time... but that was cool cuz then I could take my friends there and just have a weekend away and enjoy Aarhus which is a super beautiful small city! And it's cheap to travel to Denmark from my country, as I live in southern Norway, so just a ferry ride down to Denmark, then drive a few hours to Aarhus. Wow I’m sorry to hear the depo shot made things worse for you. I had the opposite reaction to it. I’ve been on it for years and I haven’t had a single period while on it in like 5 years, it’s been magical. I’m so thankful for it. I’ve saved so much money too since the shot is free with my insurance and I don’t have to buy tampons and pads anymore! Just don’t want other folks to be deterred by the depo shot after hearing your experience 😕. It’s definitely worth a shot (haha get it) to try it. It does make you emotional for maybe the first year but after several shots your body gets used to it and the hormonal and emotional effects are not even noticeable. And like I said, no period or bleeding whatsoever. It also works extremely well as actual birth control. I’ve had quite a bit of unprotected sex with a handful of male partners and I never got pregnant lol. Personally I alwaysf highly recommend it but everyone’s body is different

I kinda relate to Noah. I know it can help people, so I'll never rat on it, cause like, my stepmom used it for most her life and like never had a period, but I tried it, with it being basically my last hope for anything to stop my periods and mental breakdowns, and it, er...
      (TW)
I got a 4 month long period and started planning out my suicide ugh. It wasn't as bad as my normal ones, so it felt more manageable, but it just kept going. My like vulva was so sore that it hurt to put my underwear back on and have the pads pressing against it again, and even it hurt to have normal underwear for a while after. I have Tommy Johns boxers, and those were nice I guess. They're soft, and I think I literally almost cried in relief.
I didn't even have any other bad side effects besides being more moody (most likely due to dysphoria and depression) and other more-likely-dysphoria-related things like that. Sucked ass though, it'd slow down, almost stop, and then get heavy again. It just never ended.
I definitely agree though. Trying it is a good idea, but do be aware that you may not be of the group that it stops for. Don't get your hopes too high, that's my best recommendation, ig.

My head??? My toes?! Did I accidentally cut myself somewhere?! Nobody knowssssss

Haha my friend and I both learned in detail about how the menstrual cycle works in school last year. One lunchtime she was on her period and had cramps and was rocking back and forth cos of the pain, and her younger brother asks "are you okay" and she goes "no, my endometrium is shedding!" 😂. We still both call it that sometimes lol.

What birth control side effects should I expect while taking the pill?
The hormones in birth control pills may cause side effects in some people. But this doesn’t happen to everyone - many people use the pill with no problems.
After starting the pill, some people may have:
    Headaches
    Nausea
    Sore breasts
Changes in your periods (early, late, or stopping altogether while on the pill)
Spotting (bleeding between periods or brown discharge)
The good news is that these side effects usually go away in 2-3 months. So if you just started the pill and you have side effects that bother you, try to stick it out and give your body a chance to adjust to the hormones.
Birth control shouldn’t make you feel sick or uncomfortable.

When my first p-word started (at like 8) I was just so bummed out. Obviously, being so young, I didn’t know what trans was, all I knew was that I DID NOT want to be a “woman.” And I wasn’t ready to start becoming one. My mom was excited though.

If you can afford it, menstrual cups are really great. I'm a cis girl, but I feel like it would be good to anyone who gets a period. It costs a bit more at first, but you end up saving money.
The main problem with period products I've concluded from this video are also solved:
    They're reusable, you don't need a trash
They're reusable, you don't need to go every month or two to buy more, avoiding that
    Also:
It doesn't make a lot of noise like opening a tampon/pad does
You can leave it in for up to 12 hours and you don't have to worry about it
