Let's not beat around the bush - Bug types are known as one of the worst types in Pokemon History... but in Pokemon X and Y there's a good variety and some really unique ones to find as potential party members. Can we make the best of what we've got and use them to beat Pokemon Y's hardest challenge?!

We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon Y Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Bug types? No items and no overleveling!

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

What I loved most about X and Y is that they didn't create too many new mons, so they just brought in pretty much every other one, making almost any replay to be completely unique. Like you can get three dragon types before the second gym, how cool
also introduced my favorite mechanic, mega evolution. made trash pokemon like beedrill useable

@@rainbowyoshi9894 Possibly more if you don't care abojt grinding some more: From the top of my head: Druddigon (cave before you hit the coastal area), Bagon (cliff on coast) and I guess Kingdra, Dragalge or even Altaria if you catch and evolve Horsea, Skrelp and/or Swablu?
Been a while! Swablu and Druddigon were wrong. It's Axew at the location I thought Druddigon was and Swablu is on the otherside of VictoryRoad's gate..
There's also Tyrunt you can get?
My bad, you need the Good Rod for Horsea and Skrelp.
Conclusion: Axew, Bagon and Tyrunt before gym 2.

You could've got a Durant on the route you mentioned the shuckle on and then tried for shuckle or ariados in both Terminus Cave and Victory Road; essentially guaranteeing an extra encounter.
6:55 I personally make an addendum to my runs that if I get a Pokemon that only evolves as a certain gender (Combee, Salazzle, etc), I can reroll it until I get one that's able to evolve. Getting an encounter that's only good 1/8 of the time just isn't fun
Fun fact, there was a tournament with all of the gym leaders, rivals, main antagonists, and champions. There was something over 1000 trainers in it and Viola made it towards the top 8 and Roxanne got second to Cynthia who beat Steven Stone to 3rd. So yeah, it’s surprising but bug types have started to really start to get good.
Benji the Beedrill with the absolute movie-worthy victory! Been waiting this whole damn run for his time to shine after having been the first Pokemon you evolved and taking a backseat to everyone else, then clutches out wins on the final two trainers for the successful run. What a legend!

Nice run! It sometimes feels like Bug didn't come into its own as a type until Gen 7 (but is still pretty weak) so anything before then is an even bigger accomplishment.
Yeah, by Gen 9, you can definitely make an all-bug team pretty scary.
Bug became cracked in like gen 5. Crustle, Scolipede, Volcarona, Accelgor, Excavlier, Leavanny..

From since Gen 1 there’s been a bug type with effectively 500 base stat total
Gen 1 scyther and pinsir
gen 2 heracross and Scizor
Gen 3 ninjask (only 456 I think but very good in competitive with baton pass, speed boost, substitute and swords dance)
Gen 4 yanmega,
Gen 5 exploded with bugs with genesect and volcarona and other strong bugs like crustle with shell smash and scolipede with speed boost….

2:05 chespin is actually a good Pokemon it's not useable in this run but Chesnaught is an insanely good Pokemon

Maybe next time when playing a mono type like this with multiple encounters in the same route you can allow yourself catching all the viable encounters since you're basically going most of the routes without encounters so that evens it out

Heracross is a f beast! love when you it on your runs.
Bug Pokémon were originally meant to help trainers out in the early game since they evolve so quickly…. You get a fully evolved Pokémon at level 10 but they give them middle evolution base stats… the movepools are also real life bug interactions like the powder moves to cause status….
have you tried doing a Hardcore Nuzlocke with Poison types in Pokemon X and Y, It will be a challenge for you especially for the first gym

23:35 Actually the currency in Pokemon is based on the yen which as of writing this is 134 yen per 1 US Dollar. So that 16,000 price tag is a lot more reasonable at about 121$

I think introducing an "evo clause" could be a good idea.
"If an encounter cannot evolve, you may reroll until you get a version of it that can"
Basically. If you get a combee as an encounter, and it's male, you can reroll until you get a female combee. I see a lot of big runs but almost none of them use vespiqueen so I think it would be neat to see some less used Pokemon be used.

As I know it’s a tough one… Strong flying move and a strong dark move… I think the flying one having the addition of ‘life gain’…?
