Great video, thank you
Top notch work 👌
Thanks Eddie
Hi Tim, What type of stain did you use? I chose a semi transparent but don’t want to apply it until you tell me what you used. The doors in this video are perfect and I’m wondering if you used a solid because it looks so uniform. I applied a tiny bit of stain on part of our door and it looks so uneven . Great video btw!
We mix our own pigments and stain. try using Old Masters for premixed colors. We used a transparent mix.
Not so fast…. That’s the secret sauce 😂
Is there a totally flat finish for these Tim? Don’t want any sheen.
This is the most matte finish in high quality oil based film forming coatings. You can try and use a water based matte coating but you loose the longevity and maintainability in our opinion. Any finish you apply mulitple coats of will build up a slight sheen. You can see the sheen in this video because we had just finished. Once it receives sun and weather and a layer of natural dust, it will tone down. It will look perfectly matte.
Did you refinish the inside and in between too?
No, the inside is plywood and does not have damage. No need to.
Hi Tim, did you use a water base or oil base?
Oil stain and oil clear coat. Why compromise...
Is there a way to tone a wood panel that is much different than the others to the naked eye?
You can change the opacity to essentially hide the wood and potentially achieve more perceived uniformity. Going from light to dark is somewhat easy. Trying to change a dark piece to light is not so easy. I hope this helps.
@@teakmastertim nope. I have VG Douglas Fir front doors and one panel is noticeably lighter than the others. I was under a lot of varnish that was very dark and covered the grains. I want a less opaque look over all. It’s come out very red toned which I don’t mind, just that one board is most different. Thanks for the help.
I would like to know how much you charged per door?
Hey George, sorry for the late reply. Please call us to discuss your project.
Did you use a prestain conditioner
We did not. The client wanted the doors to have the most variance it could possibly have. We didn't see streaks or blotchiness while we were staining. We may use it more when a client wants less unevenness or if they desire a slightly more uniform look.
What type of coating remover are you you?
would have to charge the same price it costs to buy a new one lol
I did something like this a month ago with plans from woodglut.
