Hope you guys enjoyed this one. What do you want to see next time?
Hi, Im new to DIY. Have very basic tools sets. I'm not very confident about which tools to buy and use how?
If you can go over detailed use case of all latest tools and their usage with safety instructions that would help give confident to people like me.
2) if you have run down house which you have done full renovation from scratch to finish. Step by step in detail, that would help us understand and budget renovation process please.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.
How to insulate behind the roller door as they don’t have let the breeze in compared to regular doors!
Great vids mate. What about a lean to pergola with polycarbonate roof, electrics, light, heater etc.
Hi, what about electric gate? Would be a vote from me.
hi..can you make a video about insulating or reducing cold inside a newbuild garage please-with single layer/skin of bricks on the outside wall
Nice, this has been on my list for ages. Note that while springs on side are ok to cut, I definitely would NOT do that on the horizontal wound springs on the top of many doors. They need careful unwinding first (plenty of videos out there on how to do it) or you can really hurt yourself on them.
👍
Excellent and just at the right time for me to sort my old garage door out with a new one. Hopefully they deliver to the Scottish Highlands :)
👍
Great video, really want a garage door like this on mine and after seeing you do yours, I'm confident enough to fit my own, thank you
You can do it! Cheers
Looks great! Definitely needs matching smarter looking lights either side of the garage now 😉
Yes it does!
Watched this video a dozen times now 😂 shortly orderong two single doors from TWF, I mentioned that i had watched your video.
Brilliant, thanks and all the best with your installation. It really is easy to do 👍
watching the grinding explode was my favorite part
I added a microcontroller and relays to my electric roller garage door and now I can use Alexa to open the door, definitely recommend having a go at this!
Brilliant idea 💡
Great video !, can I ask what you used please to be able to connect up with Alexa etc, your help would be much appreciated.
Sorry TH-cam won’t let me share the links

Another superb video. For a future video anything you have on insulating conservatories from both heat and cold would be handy and similar with loft spaces. As climate change starts to impact us all this may help many. Take care and keep up the great content.
Great suggestion! Thanks a lot
Very informative video Cameron, I only wish I had a garage that I could fit one of these doors to. 😂
Thanks!!
Didn't see you put any screws through the top box into the Joists, only the two towards the bottom of the top box into the face. Is this enough to support the weight once that entire roll is up?
Fabulous tutorial
Thank you! Cheers!
Looks great 👍
Thanks 👍
Could a smart switch be wired to this so it can be app contolled?
Yes. Shelly make one with roller shutter mode
Great video. I'm just about to order... just out of curiosity, have we met? PDR is the only clue I can give 😂. Regardless of that, it looks like you're smashing YT 👏🏼
Thanks Ian. Yes we have met 😂👍. Hope your well
@TheDIYGuy1 seat Ibiza or Leon roof repair, and then you did the deed (PDR trg). I think you went on to work for a brewery... however, by the looks of things you're doing very well. I retired 3yrs ago and now live in North Yorkshire.
Thank you
You're welcome
Is that a special level that can be used the wrong way up? Not seen that before
Sound easy on a paper... 😄
Nice video though.
I'm an experienced carpenter. I did numerous jobs on security doors, fire doors, listed builds etc. before I started roller shutters biz. In a nutshell I was an experienced 2nd fix carpenter/installer so I confidently started my roller shutter biz few yrs ago.
I did over 1500 installations by now.
I damaged 1st installation and dented or scratched few initial shutters (aluminium is soft).
I think it's not easy.
It's complex and many details need to be done correctly otherwise a 💩 may happen. 😉
What horizontal clearance does the top box need thanks
All depends on overall size of the shutter, the smaller the opening the smaller in diameter the top box will be etc
As we say on this side of the Watford Gap. Doddle.
Absolutely!!
I think roller doors don't look that great. I opted for a pair of sectional doors from Teckentrup and had no problems installing them myself having watched their excellent installation video Although a second pair of hands would have been very useful as I had to make a few different props to support things to make a one 'man' install feasible. However had it been a double door rather than 2 singles, I think a second person would be essential.
Thanks for sharing
The only trouble with garage sectional overhead doors is that you loose the head room when the door is in the fully open position
@@tonyl1984 That's true. Teckentrup offer an extra headroom kit for free if that's a problem (and if you have room for it).
👍👍👍
🙌
Great video of a job I want to do, how did you dispose of the old door?
We cut it up and I put it into a skip.
The spring is under tension for safety never cut the spring
I wouldn't advise it, but the old door was in the fully open position so most of the tension would be off the springs, however always more safety to unbolt by hand
your profile picture looks like your comment🤣
Cutting the spring was very dodgy, equally so was the reciprocating saw cutting through the screw towards your hands.
Please don't use "offer up" as it doesn't mean align or present, but "offer in sacrifice".
Thanks.
Please stop saying "mil" for milimeter because a mil is not a milimeter, it's an imperial unit that is a thousandth of an inch.
Thanks
Think hard befre opting for this type of system, particularly if your garage is close to your house. I installed one a few years ago and have regrets.
They are very noisy and slow to operate, so if you are in and out a few times a days it does tend to become a nuisance, the noise does transfer into the house as well. There also has been times when I have returned home to find the garage open, obviously somehow I am nudging the buttons on the fob when leaving home and the door starts to open as I have left the drive. Finally the doors rattle in high winds and can be a ballache, especially at night.
When it comes to replace these doors, I won't be buying a roller door.
I have a remote controlled up and over type and it sounds like it's a better option
@@desquilty3953 Every time, at least in my opinion. The only real advantage of a roller door is that you free up loft space in your garage, aside from that everything is a disadvantage.
I wonder how secure it is and resistant to being kicked? I'd want to try having a small channel or grove cut into the floor for the bottom part of the slats making the whole thing less wibbly wobbly. Or maybe just have a wooden batten fixed to the floor behind it.
Great video! I wish you’d learnt about this about a year ago. I had a roller garage door fitted last summer and the after sales from the company has been shocking! I honestly had no idea I could have potentially done the job myself! Keep up the great work!
Ah damn. Glad you liked the video
Easy installation yourself just need £2k worth of powertools first. Great 😂
One of the best vids Ive seen on this, and was also a pleasant surprise to see TWF are a few miles up the road from me.
What are the benefits of a 77mm curtain over a 55mm?
How secure are these? Cant security been further improved if needed?
Great demonstration as usual Cameron. For once, this is a DIY I don't need to do as the house already has one. Still nice to see how it's installed.
For future videos, I'd love to see your take on insulating, winterproofing, log burners etc 🔥❄😊
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the suggestions
Why you didn't mention nothing about theft protection? This door is very easy to break in your older door was much stronger and harder to break.
You think? I cut the old door in half in seconds when disposing. If I were a criminal I could of been inside my old garage door with an 18v grinder in 2-3 minutes. At the end of the day, if someone wants in then they will, regardless of the door. I’d suggest alternative security arrangements for all garages. The roller door seen in the video is up to current standards you would expect from any roller door.
Do they come out and measure? I'm interested in the product but my measuring skills are surpassed by my practical skills :D
Hah if your local to them they probably would do that for you. Check out their configurator which helps you understand the measurements a little better
no discount
Looks great, you made that look so easy, great job 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Try measuring the size before you start fitting lads. Made from the cheapest possible materials will probably last a couple of years oh and if you want to break in just take the 2 screws out of the front 😂
I’ve just fitted my door your video helped so much thanks for making it.
I brought the same controller as you installed in the video.
Wired it in and all I have is a red LED light on. And nothing else works. Has anyone had this before and how did you overcome getting the door to work?
I will work it out
Cheers
Me crying as you cut the spring! I’ve just had to buy 2 new ones at a cost of £200 as mine were corroded and snapped.
My advice would be undo the nut and take them off and resell as you could get a few quid.
Great video, and perfect timing for me as i was just about to spend nearly £2k on a supply and fit door. One question, what safety system did you use? I was looking at the ANSA product....
Fit a door yourself? First thing he says is you'll need another pair of hands. Duh!
I’ve got a faulty SWS door and thinking it will probably be cheaper to replace it with something like this rather than the call out charges and parts!
How easily maintainable are these doors? If something goes wrong is there a tech support contact and can we order individual components should they fail in the future?
I've placed an order for a garage door from TWF on the strength of this video 👍
Hubby impressed so I might finally get my auto garage door! 👏👏👏
Hah brilliant 👍
I’m just going to get one fitted whilst he’s out 😂😂😂
Can you fit these to an external wall as i dont havr a garage. Are they weather proof
Glad you didn’t get the morons who fitted mine to install yours.
you guys in uk are built different if you have the balls to cut a spring like that. seen some ugly accidents involving springs so that's definitely a BIG FAT NO for me. prefer to pull on it or idk anything else but cutting
😂
I finding it hard to find a review on common rope, sun exposure
Lovely bit of work there, Cameron. The door came across as quite noisy when in use, as an active trade, you must start very early at times, hope the old garage door isn't too loud as to wake the neighbours. Looks the dogs danglies tho, made ethe install look easy..
i was looking forward to this but it would appear that i do not have the head height in my garage to fit that box thing that the door rolls up into
You could have your top box under lintel instead of behind 👍
@@TheDIYGuy1 the roof joists run directly over the top of the door and extend out like yours do
i've got maybe 100mm worth of space where the top plate of the wall is going across
@@therealdojj our is the same had to go for a sectional door.
Same problem with mine. So this job ain't simple.
Concertina/Bifold instead perhaps?
What is better in between brick fit or behind fit ?
Why choose one over the other ?
I've just had a garage built and had one of these doors fitted by the builder. I still need to fit the sensor for it that came with it as they never fitted it
Ah, those are pretty easy to fit 👍
LOL safety goggles on after sawing the frame down. 2:04
I don't understand how the manual override works and what is there to stop someone getting into your garage using this method?
It is a manual bar mechanism that connects to the motor should it fail. It is locked with a key from the outside.
Brilliant video. Looking to install one myself. Thank you very professional. The installer who helped you should not be wearing adidas trainers. Should have safety shoes, especially with the weight of some of the parts.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for this video. Done the installation. No daylight coming in at the bottom. But on rainy days the floor is wet inside! Any suggestion?
Get a professional to fit it.
Another informative video and is that your m4 F82 Austin yellow , if so it can be a garage queen 👌🏽 now
Thanks. Yep you are spot on there 😜
How much was that door supplied with DIY kit?
Very good. I’m Desperate for one of these to make my life easier. I recon I could fit it now.
Possibly. Maybe 😂
Haha you can
You sound like a narrich boy, im one myself! I had tom and his team fit me a double sectional door on my garage they did a nice job, but a sectional garage door is not a diy job, abit more to it compared to a roller.
I am indeed! 👍
Great vid - what’s the specific sealant you use at the end for attaching the plastic?
Was that spirit level not upside down😀
What is your job name called
Great vid, thanks. Ive got a double garage with two individual doors I'd like to knock through into one, but it will need a steel putting in
Glad you liked it. All the best changing yours to a double 👍
You can do it yourself but I’m going to get a guy from a shutter company to give me a hand 🤣🤣
Easily DIYed. I’ve fitted a bunch with TWF and alone.
Really well done video, thanks
Just wondering if it’s better to get manual roller doors instead of the electronic ones ??? For a single garage door
Always worried about motors etc
Are there different qualities of these ?
I worry about security. At the moment I have a deadbolt stopping forced opening from the outside. Electric seems like it could easily be forced up or even someone cloning or with a key fob that scans frequencies and opens it. I have one coming but I think I'll still deadbolt it from he inside.
Fair points 👍
@@TheDIYGuy1 I'm building a tools cupboard which is also a floor to joist partition wall for security. th-cam.com/video/AEQ2D_L6djU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=J4R1trjNojFsbr7G
You wouldn’t need to cut any guide rail if you order a door the right size to suit the opening
Nope.
When is the next episode of the renovation coming out?
It’s filmed and should be edited and ready for release in two weeks after the next guide video 😊👍
Was the safety brake wired in?
Door fix with 7mm plugs😂😂😂😂 my window is fixed better
Cracking video! Cracking product. I'll be looking to order from here when I widen the garage.
Thanks 👍
Smart bit of kit 👍
🙌
Is there any security stopping literally anyone from coming along and "manually over-riding" your door?
The hole usually has a key-locked cover to stop someone doing that
Yep there’s a lock and barrel inside that would need to be broken into first. As with anything, if someone wants in then they would get in regardless
Thanks. I already have one of these but the previous owners didn't bother to fit a safety edge so it's really helpful to know what words to search for...
Glad to help
Maybe i missed something. How do you stop anybody from just rolling up and using the override to get in?
It has a lock and barrel inside it and you get a key 🔑
If you set the bottom limit so the Curtain toggle straps are horizontal inside the top box then it shouldn't be able to be lifted up as they will hit the underside of the top box
Top tip when your sending the door down without the curtain on use the limit key to wind the bottom limit down further, seen it plenty of times where after you've put the curtain on and need to get up further you hit the max top limit way before the doors fully open.
👍
Great video! Tempted to do this, identical garage however I am planning to turn half into an office/utility and this shutter door idea would save a chunk of headroom.
Go for it!
Great video as usual, everything explained very clearly, for future videos how about tiling videos and carpentry both inside and outside such as, wardrobe builds and alcove units, then for outside , timber structures such as pergolas and how to cover in a side entrance of a semi detached house.
Great suggestion!
Great video, i dont even have a garage👍😀
Thanks 👍
When adjusting the door at the bottom the man said about turning towards minus, did he mean basically to lift the curtain up slightly? Another great video that did look as though it could be done without installers.👍👍
Doing it this way just helps the Curtain position not to over run on the 1st attempt & by stopping shorter in height you can edge the limit position as you please with the hex headed limit stick
@@tonyl1984 Thanks for the reply 👍
Is there a service schedule with these doors and any on going maintenance. Thank you.
That’s a great question. Not that I know of
You can't apply lubricated spray to the runners, just to make sure the Curtain is in alignment still & the curtain is securely attached to the barrel still & that all the fixings are still tight etc
Does the top box come already built?
On a 55 door yes this is already done. On a 77 you have to fix the curtain into the top box as shown in the video.
bet loads of people will be fitting these their self lol
Let’s hope so
As a door fitter myself let me give you some pros and cons on doing this job as a diy.
Pro: save around £500.
Con: you measure it wrong, you may have to buy new tools, you have to get rid of you old door some how, you will be walking up ladders or holding up to 80Kg, you could scratch the door putting it in, you set it up wrong and break the straps, and who will honour a warranty when it goes wrong and needs fixing. When you get a good company into do this this is all down to them and not you.
Fair comment, thanks for sharing. The one thing I would say is that most of those things can be taken into consideration and hopefully the mistakes not made. Similar considerations apply with most DIY tasks.
I got a local firm to come and fit mine. They cancelled and delayed with every excuse under the sun, did it badly, didn’t finish it properly , didn’t honour warranty calls and then disappeared out of business. Spending money with them was a total waste, it had to be completely torn out and replaced. And I know they have started a new business doing the same. Horrendous. As mine is a single door, I wish I had seen this video beforehand as I would have done it properly myself; the kit of parts was ok overall, and I saw how easy my particular site job was when it got removed but I do not for one second doubt your skills and expertise being required for the jobs you get) but they might as well have used a knife and fork to fit it. And they called themselves ‘roller door experts’.
Also a door fitter here. Firstly while it is a good DIY attempt, that TWF company are the same as all the cheap/DIY roller door companies, cheap components, poorly fabricated and never honour thier warranties. One company very similar to this ended up on watchdog for providing dangerous and unrealiable roller doors.
Couple of things I would like to point out while you are 'trying' to educate people on fitting rollers. Firstly if the door has been supplied to your measurements why are you having to cut down the guide rails? That should be done in the factory. Secondly that curtain is in 'reverse roll' and should be rolled the other way so it can be loaded over the barrell with the bottom slat leading, then you can slide on the locking straps and attach to the barrel without having to support the weight of the curtain while you do it. Thirdly that control unit is on the wrong side to the motor and you have had to extend the motor cable to the other side but that was not shown in your 'tutorial'. There was also no felt or fascia supports fitted to the front shutterbox so that will rub on the curtain in no time.
People need to be aware of these cheap roller doors, as I mentioned above they use cheap Chinese knock off motors and controls as they have done in this case. The locking straps used here are also the cheapest on the market and break in a very short time frame.
It looked like alutech manufacturer
