I have a theory. Ancient Icelanders didn't eat this kind of food because it was a delicious delicacy but because it was a necessity. The geography and climate of the island made food production difficult. If they were alive today they would look at us and think we were insane for eating it when we didn't even have to. SO if you're eating it to remind yourselves of the difficult times our ancestors went through then that's one thing. It's another to eat it because you think it's a great thing, fun and really Icelandic. There's something wrong about it. "Let's eat vile food and pretend we're poor - even though we're not". Anyway, seriously the most entertaining video I've seen for years. I had tears rolling down my cheeks laughing. And well done for exploding the myth that all Icelanders love this stuff.
You are right, it was a necessity because we could not keep food refrigirated. But you are wrong that people can't enjoy it, because I know alot of people that do. All of them are iver the age of 35.
One of your videos that I've watched multiple times. Looking forward to the food tour in a couple of months - and definitely not trying a single thing from this menu :-)
What a hilarious video, guys! Now I know what foods to totally avoid when I visit Iceland later this year. Thank you both for taking one (or was that ten!) for the team! Skál!
I did the food tour in August. We must have gotten the "light" version of the fermented shark. I loved the Black Death (Brennivin) and brought back a bottle along with lots of liquorice. Love Iceland. Love Reykjavík.
Thank you very much for showing us some traditional Icelandic dishes. In 2019 I was in Iceland for 9 days and I loved sheep's head especially the meat in the face and tongue so soft and delicious. Greetings from Turkey.
Super entertaining video. I didn't know about Black Death, but will be tying it this July when I'm in Iceland. Also, I would love to try everything in this video. The best part of life for me is to try any new food I come across. Skál.
Brennivín will for sure spice up the trip 😅 if you want to try any of these authentic dishes we recommend the Icelandic Bar! The best selection there, but note some of these items are seasonal.
You guys are AMAZING!!! Thanks for the laughs! We're returning to Iceland in June. Couldn't stomach the hákarl the 1st time we went -- and somehow, it still doesn't sound appealing! Imagine that! 😆😆😆
I had wanted to visit Iceland to see the northern lights for a few years. I came across your TH-cam channel, and this video was the final thing I needed to see to tell me to book the trip
We are going to Iceland in October and were looking forward to trying traditional Icelandic food. This killed every ounce of courage I had 😭 This pukefest got me cracking up so hard tho 😂😂😂
*Very funny video !... But the thing is : however funny it is, I must admit that doesn't really make us eager to try the icelandic cuisine, does it ?... Anyway that was worth watching, thanks guys (you ARE a comedy duet) !*
We'll lucky for you this is just a little snippet into the Icelandic foodie scene! It is what we had to eat in the olden days to survive, nowadays we have some beautiful fresh (not fermented lol) seafood, free range lamb and plenty of fresh vegetables grown in our geothermal heated greenhouses! So there is plenty of yummy things to experience here! 😋
Hey there Bruce! Thanks for watching! We would always recommend Íslenski Barinn (The Icelandic Bar) they have a Þorri feast in February but they have something from the Þorri menu available all year around as-well!
Well I have a couple things to say. The first one there is not many countries with such a pukeable local food. And the second one, does fermented shark is included in citizen test along with Icelandic grammar knowledge? Gunni is the only one with true icelandic ancestors taste for ammonia ❤ With love from Lithuania. Vocation in Iceland was amazing ❤
Some of the Icelandic food is eaten in other parts of the world eg sheep’s head and testicles👀😝 but to be honest it’s all down to the cooking …. In non Icelandic cultures that cook such foods… it’s more flavoursome as spices are added and stews are made from the…. I went to Iceland and never tried real Icelandic food because I couldn’t stomach the thought…. The hot dogs are lovely though….I guess also Icelandic food is very bland…. Blandness doesn’t help any food in making it palatable 🤢
You guys are so funny, I cried laughing at this... haha Dan leaning away in case Guðný barfs on him. I love it 😂
Hahaha so happy that you enjoyed it.. we definitely did not 😅

Loved the video. Laughed a lot and almost puked....
Where can I find these foods when visiting Reykjavik? Would love to try them.
This is the food tour I want!
On the Reykjavík Food Walk you get a little sample of this! .. if you dare 👀

Danni and Álfheiður: puking their guts out
Guðný: "Guys, it's really not that bad"
Not like she didn't puke 😅
Oh thank God this was NOT on the food walk! You guys kill me. Laughed till I cried!

Glad you enjoyed it! Skál right back at you 🍻

Hello Emral! So fun to hear that you enjoyed our traditional foods 🇮🇸 we sure hope to see you again here some day!
The best hákarl I've ever had was from Bjarnastaðir in Snæfellsnes! You should try to get your hands on it

Dan, she was egging you on every time you were about to throw up, and then she would give more detailed info...Hilarious!!
Hahah you spotted that Joseph - I was having too much fun while doing so 😅
You guys are AMAZING!!! Thanks for the laughs! We're returning to Iceland in June. Couldn't stomach the hákarl the 1st time we went -- and somehow, it still doesn't sound appealing! Imagine that! 😆😆😆
How awesome to hear that you are coming back to Iceland! We sure hope you guys enjoy it more than we enjoyed filming this video 😅
You guys are so brave
Thank you 😅 I can still taste the eyeball....
I had wanted to visit Iceland to see the northern lights for a few years. I came across your TH-cam channel, and this video was the final thing I needed to see to tell me to book the trip
We are so happy we could assist Andrew! Hopefully we will see you soon 🇮🇸
The eyeball is my favorite part of svið. My sisters and I would argue over it. The tongue is the second best. Cheeks are amazing, too.
LOL!!! Out-freaking-standing!
😂 I can just feel their aftermath the next day after watching this video.
Oh believe us.. there were consequences! 😅
Guðný Ljósbrá is the champion :)
Þið eruð nú algjörir... GIKKIR! 🤣
One of the funniest video I’ve ever seen!
We're glad that someone is enjoying 😅
Since I can't find ipecac at the pharmacy anymore, now I know to get some fermented shark if I ever need to induce vomiting.
I can't stop laughing! You two are hilarious.
Best video I ever seen!!
I love it, this is the best one yet 😂😂😂😂
Hahah thank you! It was definitely the most challenging so far 😅
I laughed so hard on this. Hrafna channel did the same and it was equally hilarious 😂😂
Hahaha yes that one is super good as well 😅
We are going to Iceland in October and were looking forward to trying traditional Icelandic food. This killed every ounce of courage I had 😭
This pukefest got me cracking up so hard tho 😂😂😂
I was laughing along with you guys
Gudny is golden. I'd love to have someone like her in my life!

You guys are crazy 😂😂 I laughed so hard damn the rotten shark Dan was so funny LMAO
Dan is not the most adventurous eater maybe.. but then again when it comes to sheep heads, who is 😅 Glad you enjoyed it!
You both made me smile and look forward to more videos from you both 🙏👍👌✌️😶🌫️
Slátur is so good! I like to sprinkle sugar on blóðmör.
Sláttur seem😢quite similar to Scottish haggis mixed with our black pudding. The big difference being that we add oats to both.
For sure similar!
I love all this food 😅 If fact, I miss gathering around with my family and eating it during the blót
It so nice right!
You totally described haggis. I love haggis.
Love blood pudding too.
Her laugh 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂is the BEST🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bear Grylls eats that rotten shark pieces like smarties.
That was fun. If I come to Iceland next February, how do I find restaurants that serve a Thorrablot?
Hey there Bruce! Thanks for watching! We would always recommend Íslenski Barinn (The Icelandic Bar) they have a Þorri feast in February but they have something from the Þorri menu available all year around as-well!
is the sheeps head not similar to head cheese?
Cringed! Y'all are 😂 hilarious! I couldn't do this.
Thanks that’s a great video,i now have a list of the. DO NOT eat things 😊
We understand that 😅
The eyeball was so bad. I'm not sensitive but i had to stop my meal. Not able to eat anything. Not even drunk i'm able to eat that.
Are there any nomakes to eat in Iceland??? Without having to throw up?
I will probably cancel the trip there. 😮😮😮😮
Well I have a couple things to say. The first one there is not many countries with such a pukeable local food. And the second one, does fermented shark is included in citizen test along with Icelandic grammar knowledge? Gunni is the only one with true icelandic ancestors taste for ammonia ❤

FACE OFF! OMG!!! Ekki fyrir Mig!
I never thought watching people drink and puke would be funny.
Jesus…. I remember contestants on Fear Factor back in the day having to eat nasty shit to advance…. They don’t have ANYTHING on you guys 😂🤢🤮🤮🤮
Hahahah RIGHT! 😂
Plan to be there in 2023.... sadly will not try any of this because...well it's called vacation not incarceration.
Hahaha, a good point! 😅
You need to remove the pupil from the eyeball first..
Oh man 😅
@@WakeUpReykjavik. hehe I fight for the eye and the pupil is the black dot that is harder

ÆÐI, ég get horft endalaust þetta er svo dásamlega fyndið og æðislegt. Þ.e. kúgast kitlar alltaf hláturtaugarnar
Lamb is not common here in Brazil. I was in Iceland in April and I tried to eat 3 different dishes in 3 days and the result was not so good 😂
got ANYTHING for vegetarians besides Black Death????
