I appreciate the level of care you exercise when describing what this game is, who it might be for, and why. These nuanced examinations keep me coming back to the Dungeon Dive year after year. Distributing internationally as an indie game dev is a monumental undertaking, no matter where you are based. I can totally appreciate why games like this don't have perfect international distribution. It's really hard and really time consuming and can easily consume a 1 man game company.

It’s a real issue for these indie games.

Wonderful video, and you've sold me on the game -- I've preordered the 2nd edition. And gotta say, when you mentioned how the game's vibe is King Crimson crossed with Steeleye Span / early folk-prog, that made me giddy with delight -- all favorites of mine. The art style is also entirely my cup of tea (I'm a huge Gary Chalk / Talisman 2nd edition fan, too, so probably no surprises in liking Paul Stapleton's art, too).

I absolutely love the Bedsit games products, Paul the designer illustrates and designs all the elements. He's got an amazing imagation and these games are rich in story and theme and are a real hidden gem. I recommend this series as an original and creative piece of work.

I bough that game a couple years ago after one of your videos and im still thankful for making me do it. An amazing amazing game within this specific genre (overland competitive adventure game) which seems almost extinct these days. Also Paul, the creator of Paupers Ladder, might be the nicest guy alive and getting the game off of his shop is a delight.

I appreciate the art in Paupers' Ladder. It's warm, approachable, inviting, and the characters are representative--inclusive of age, ability, and more identities.

This game hits so many sweet spots for me; a sense of adventure, immersion into the world of Brighthelm, and a ton of variety and modules to play with or without. This game is a true gem and a top pick for me! Thanks for taking the time to share a thoughtful look into this game. Hopefully, it will gain some more wide appeal.

I purchased the entire Pauper's Ladder collection. I had a shipping problem that was ENTIRELY my fault and the designer, Paul Stapleton, was an absolute pleasure to deal with. Do not hesitate to purchase this game. Paul deserves tremendous success.

I’d been thinking of buying this game for years after watching Daniel’s earlier videos on it.
I finally took the plunge and got the main game, moon towers, and cobbled isle.
Paul was super great to deal with and I’m so excited for it to arrive!
I really like dungeon degenerates after learning about it on the dungeon dive, but sometimes find the combat a little too complex for me. I feel like the simplicity of paupers ladders combat is going to be perfect for me!
      Thanks for the coverage Daniel!

Hi Daniel. Great to see more coverage of this lovely game. Just wanted to point out a small rules error which can make quite a big difference: a recipe is learned as soon as you discover any two of the three ingredients. You don't need to find all three!

I've been looking for more adventure board games, and this one actually kind of reminds me of some of the board games my friends and I would try to make when we were little (except we obviously didn't have nearly as firm a grasp on game design). I'll have to check this out some day.

This game looks great, but it needs to be more widely available. I just can't spend this much on a game for the materials included. It isn't that I can't, it's just that I won't. I will risk missing out, but hope that it becomes popular enough to get more robust manufacturing and distribution.

Maybe for once Americans can bite the bullet and import, see what it feels like. You know how expensive is to get stuff from the Game Crafter here in the UK? Yet a lot of us do it. Same with Dungeon Degenerates. And a hell ton of Kickstarter stuff. Even RPG zines are dumb expensive because drivethru ships from the US. Or Max Moon games, same deal.
Yeah, not having global distribution for something you really want sucks. But trust me, you guys have it easy and nice in this hobby.

    • @lenmux
      @lenmux ปีที่แล้ว +1

I always support making fiscally responsible decisions with one's hobby money. I'll also say, for me, this game provides a higher return on investment than the average.
The designer/publisher was responsive as far as consolidating shipping costs for a bundle order.
It still is pricier, but it's also among what I consider to be the best games in my collection, both for the game experience it provides at a lower mental and time overhead, and the fact that my partner likes it as much as I do.

I think what I am missing here is why is this game cool?
The name, the premise doesn't scream out to me. Is there a specific reference for the games themes in relation to other genres or specific media?

It's simply a wonderfully designed game full of charm and whimsical adventure. It's a game pure of heart, and does perfectly everything it sets out to do. But you may just not like it. :) I dislike a ton of games. That doesn't mean I'm missing something, it just means I don't like those games. Maybe Pauper's Ladder is just not vibing with you.
