Some time ago I talked with friend about this... well phenomen, that Miguel frankly became, just not on tiktok but on tumblr.
My theory is that in addition to the points you've already made, there's also an element of... explosion of a supressed honryness for this kind of archetype (cool, brooding, badboy, i can fix him...) after yeaaaars and years of the fandoms focusing on the non-traditionally attractive men; aka, the "tumblr sexymen", the "poor meow meows" etc, who are basically never muscular, often effeminate, eccentric, flamboyant, pathetic in one way or another and generally more goofy and silly (I don't mean it in a negative way, I find those traits lovable and have a fair share of favorite characters falling under those lebels). Actually, Spot, who shares those traits has his own portion of thirsting fans too, but it's nothing compared to the legions of Miguel's fans.
Basically... I think that after numerous Oncelers, Bill Ciphers, Sanses, Lokis and eh... Kylo Rens...? we sort of circled back to loving the more mainstream archetypes, even if for a moment.

No idea how I stumbled across this, but very glad I did. Honestly a very unique viewing experience compared to almost all of what I've been watching lately. I've always loved Miguel from the comics. I actually used to own a book from the original Peter David run with Vulture 2099 (who is a cannibal btw). Seeing him on the big screen is a delight, and I love how they depicted his character. Though he is shockingly authoritarian in this movie, compared to his comic counterpart.
Thats what I've noticed when doing my research! His comic vetsion is pretty coarse compared to the other spider people, but he's a lot more violent in ATSV
@@viviwithav Yeah. They upped the violence, but Miguel can get pretty violent in the comics (fangs, claws, and stuff). I personally think him being authoritarian was a trauma response to losing everything considering that he used to be cavalier enough to travel to another universe and replace himself in that universe. I think his arc's going to take him full circle

Now, Miguel had amazing character design, a good story behind himself. A diverse personality, and deep rooted trauma that made his character. But..though I like his character, I do not justify his actions towards miles. It was extremely harsh, and it made no sense for a 27 year old man to choke slam a teenager to try and prevent mistake he had made previously. Now, I like watching edits of him etc. but uhm tiktok goes a tad bit far sometimes..and completely forget how he turned miles friends against him and beat the shit out of him. 😭

I'm more of a hobie fan. He's a cool character but he kinda reminds me of my oldest brother, maybe I'm just not old enough to see it. I tend to be attracted to more androgynous people anyway, so hypermasculinity isn't really my thing. but yeah super tragic character but also poor miles

So I saw a lot of ppl thirsting for this character, but when I watched the movie I didn't understand what all the interest is about. He's physically attractive, but that's about it... I don't rly understand ppl's intense attachment to this character from the movie alone, bro isn't even that likeable imo.

Absolutely adore this breakdown, I’ve been trying lately to be unbiased about Miguel’s character because (unfortunately) I love him a lot… and trust me, I mean a bunch. It’s really refreshing to hear breakdowns like these that go beyond the surface of his character. It really makes me appreciate what I need to know and understand about him, along with what I don’t and I can picture him accurately and not just “teehee sexy man, pulverize me”

On one hand, I find this version of Spidey 2099 to be an utter boneheaded tightwad too traumatized (and probably neck deep in sunk cost fallacy) to realize that the canon is not as hard coded as he thinks (as shown by Spider-Gwen's dad quitting the force without repercussions and the continued existence of Earth 42).
On the other hand, he just has such a great design; a neat blend of that early 90s edge, and genuine standalone coolness (especially unmasked). I can see why people are simping from the design alone.

like, i find him a cool antagonist and a cool character and love the memes about his "hatred" for mile(We all know what I'm talking about) and "bro, it's a canon event" but that's where my interests end. i knew of the guy from the edge of time video game but that's about it. i don't really care for him that much. i wanna strangle him for what he did to my boy, i feel for his tragedy, and he presents a very interesting moral dilemma but that's about it. the fact that this guy has such a hold over people is crazy to me. Watching this all unfold is like the rebirth of the onceler fandom but on a much smaller scale...for now

I just love how Miguel technically checks almost all of my husbando list, but falls so flat with the character personality part that it could count as an canon event 😂 (The only guys who got all of them so far are Zag from HADES and Luke from Street Fighter 6)
