OuterLimitless, thank you for taking the time to review the Javelin 2.0. We definitely appreciate your thoughtfulness. You did a great job going over the different parts of the bag. As for the 3rd button on the main strap, you can open the buckle and gently bend that 3rd button backwards or you can also sand it down to where it doesn't activate anymore. Again, thank you for the review.

Thanks for the suggestion! Ya, I really like this bag, it's been great. Perfect for a small SLR setup with a couple of lenses and accessories. I'll likely do a follow up soon. I appreciate it!

A followup would be awesome, we'd love to see that! The Javelin 2.0 also makes for a great EDC sling pack, carrying all your essential gear. Let us know when the video is available. - Alex @ Vanquest Team

Great video, I am currently looking for a bag like this for work. I have the Vanquest Trident 20 for my photography needs but I needed something for more of a construction type job. I am going with the Maxpedition due to the fact I don't need to be organized so much as I need a water bottle and more room to put extra clothing and gloves etc. I hope it works out because I do love the Vanquest bag. Wish they would put a water bottle on it. Thanks again for the video

Ya, it's tough...I'm a part time photographer and struggled with the size of the SLR in the sitka. oddly, I feel like the sitka is bigger, but the lack of dividers made it feel unsafe for the equipment.
I did a bunch of heavy construction photography in the early 2000's. was a blast, I miss it!

After talking with the people at Vanquest for 3 days via email and more i actually ended up getting the Grey Javelin 2.0 instead of the new 3.0 that has just come out in enough quantity to be shipped to more than just pre ordees. For one reason it was on FIRE SALE so i ended up getting it for about $70 less than normal. Also i was going to get the Multicam Black which is the one that kind of looks like a Multicam or camo pattern but black and grey. But i realized it kind of looks a little tacky even though it's really cool it also screams for attention, and with this being a slightly bigger bag than the black sling bag i use now (Maxpedition Lunada) i went with my original first choice of grey because it blends in to environments more, especially urban (grey man factor) but then rural and woodland just as well. But the big HUGE main reason i chose this 2.0 instead of the 3.0 is because the 2.0 has that big extra handle right at the top of the shoulder strap where it meets the bag. I assume that because there is also already another big main handle at the top of the bag, that they figured the redundancy of that other handle wasn't necessary and just totally removed it and left that area blank. But when i go to lift the bag onto my shoulders, that's the EXACT part of the bag/shoulder strap that i grab every time. And i also grab that portion to lift the bag for short term movement from place to place, more than i grab the main handle. Which is a big huge deal to me. Now on the 3.0 they did make the zipper opening of the hydration bladder/ccw gun sleeve bigger fit easier access and they made the main compartment a half inch wide specifically so that a 13inch mac book pro can now fit in there. But i don't use a mac book pro that often and have no need for it. And it's also 3inches deeper. Not taller or wider but deeper by more than 3 inches. And i actually prefer it to be smaller in overall form. That was one of the reasons i chose it over the Maxpedition Sitka. For a gearslinger i want it to be a bit bigger to be able to toe clothes into ontop of my survival, recovery and edc gear, but I Also want it to have as Small of a visual footprint as possible. And i know a lot of people agree. For both mobility and visual affect. So I think it's weird that Vanquest made the new version 3.0 so much bigger. Sometimes you want more compact but a bigger bang. And that's what this Vanquest Javelin 2.0 (in grey) delivers. I can't wait for it to get here. I have a lot of purpose point bags from Maxpedition, J-Tech, Hazard 4, and 5.11 and Arcteryx and Swisstech. But none have hit that perfect sweet spot for EDC that can transition to an overnight/bugout get home bag like the Javelin 2.9 and even the Sitka. So even though i love my Lunada, I'm transitioning my main core edc gear over to this Vanquest Javelin 2.0 for the extra room to throw clothes into but still be about the sane footprint in size. Can't wait. Great video, it helped with the decision. Keep it up and take care.

Oh. And one small aesthetic difference i noticed with the Javelin 2.0 and the 3.0 is that the Vanquest Logo on the Javelin 2.0 is a lot bigger than on the 3.0. On the 3.0 it's a tiny little smaller patch. And for some reason that threw up a red flag.

As a photography bag, how well does the Javelin protect on the two side that you would set on the ground.
I want to find something for my DSLR and a 150-600 tamron (11 inch lens) and at least 1 wide angle for wildlife/landscape.
My fear is the protection will be inadequate on the sides that come into contact with the Ground. Like the bottom and the closed side.
I haven't had much luck with conventional photography bags due to the size and the fact that I will be using it as a hiking day bag as well.
    Any thoughts?

I'm not at all concerned with protection. I'm a gigging wedding photographer and it's been quite used at this point. you'll struggle with how tight this bag is, especially with the long lens. you can't store the camera with the lens hood on and also fit another substantial lens. it's tight for sure. I'll do a video about it and I'll let you know when it's up. maybe in a week or two, I'll make it a priority, I've been wanting to do that video anyway.

A follow up video would be fantastic. Honestly, It is So difficult to find something that works for wildlife photography. My Tamron is Huge but it isn't anything close to as big as some. What is needed for wildlife is an accessible bag that can handle a large lens (plus at a smaller one) and storage for other gear such as bug protection, weather protection and sun protection. Water is also a Must.
I have searched high and low for something that can fill all of the requirements and can't find anything in the photography world that works. The only thing close are backpack style bags and they are not very handy to access. I have quality backpacks for real hikes and will utilize them for anything with real distance or overnight. As a backpack, they are really good but I need something for a day hike or more like 1/2 a day. That is the majority of my trips to the woods.
The idea of using a non photography oriented bag has real appeal. I was looking at the Mountainsmith Tour or Day lumbar pack but they just don't quite work. Vanquest has 2 great options. Javelin and Pilum are both contenders. Pilum appears to be more of a photography bag due to extra padding and it is longer BUT the javelin meet the needs with storing other gear needed on a day hike.
I like the setup of the javelin more even though the cost is $50 more for the 3.0 version (I want left shoulder carry). But the pilum might be long enough to carry the tamron ON the body of the D500. Where the Javelin is too short.
Obviously, I will need to know the with as well. Filing the storage pockets might take away the width I need for the hood of the Tamron (5 inch diameter). So info on that would be helpful as well.
I am pretty sold on Vanquest quality but have not ruled out other manufacturers such as maxpedition. I might be the ONLY person on the planet that has had issue with Vaquest quality stitching. I have 4 of their products and only one has had any issue with stitching. Unfortunately, it is my Mobus and that was my favorite but at least it was in a less critical location. Total frayed webbing appears to be unique to this bag. Vanquest could have done better at customer service by not ignoring my emails (with pictures) . I was disappointed in them for that. But I haven't given up on the company. The other 3 items are still in fantastic shape and I am the only one that seems to have any issues. I must have just gotten a lemon. The design for their products is great as well.
That is more information than you need but that is where I am at in my search for the right bag. ANY advice or suggestions would be appreciated. I subbed your channel but if you could also send a message when you make the other video, that would be fantastic.
      Thanks Again!

cool, and no...not to much info. I love this stuff and half the fun is learning what works and what doesn't. I'll message you one I complete and post a follow up.
I had thought about a couple hazard 4 bags. there's one that's photo specific and looks long enough for what you're trying to do. I almost bought it but where I was in a wedding scenario didn't want as hard core a tactical look. it might be right up your alley.
Hazard 4 ... check them out.
