Good review and I appreciate you showing the Proteus for a second as I was comparing these two. I have an idea of how I would use these or why I would choose one over the other. This one is well organized and larger for more gear (guns, cameras, etc) while the Proteus seems better for EDC wear comparable to a small tool bag or such and just a little more compact. You completely opened the bag, gave some dimensions and compared it to another and that was more than most reviewers do.
I personally run mine underneath my backpack on the sleeping back loops on the bottom this works very well if synched up tight and does not bounce around and works well as a pack extension.
Thanks Stefan. This is one of those bags that is too big for a side-tote, but it's too small for a day hike with friends. It looks like a very capable bag though, as are most Maxpedition pieces.
Stefan - this is one of the best gear overview videos I've seen. I'm considering purchasing the Sabercat Versipack and you really helped me make my decision as well as educate me on accessories I'll need when purchasing this item. Greetings from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. USA. Kind regards, Laura
Very astute review. That is a nice pak. Not sure how comfortable it would be with my bad back, but it is certainly a versatile option. I have a Standard Versapack, and I love it for a day trip, or going someplace with my boy to carry things I need for a child, a small tablet, camera, pad & pen, Nintendo for my son, a bottle or two of something to drink, and a couple of cigars, pipe, and tobacco. and even a spare shirt for my son when he rides a water ride!
Excellent video! Well presented and item described precisely showing all the compartments and various uses. I'll certainly subscribe and look for more of your very informative videos to assist me in my purchasing decisions! May you and yours be safe always!
Stefan, your reviews are excellent. For each Maxpedition product I own I have ended up being sold by your detailed informative review. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Also it should be noted that the .de MaxPedition site in description is in German, and the .com site is in English. You know, to see what other cool products they have :)
To me the bag seems a bit overdone with features everywhere, and yet the main compartment is still not that practical. As you say, could be a good bag to leave in the car filled with useful little things. However it may take you an hour to find something back in it!
Thanks for your video! I use the bag for amateur radio in the outdoors, and it is ideal for that purpose:There is plenty of space for all the stuff, and everything is well organized. But with 7+ pounds in it and longer distances, it is not really comfortable to me, even with the belt plus the strap. You want to tighten the belt very tight-fitting. I also have a Gearslinger, which provides even more space for outdoor items, but in my opinion, both are not made for heavy gear. Anyway, I have not found and cannot imagine a better solution for my purpose.
Great video review thank you I am so tired others that say they are going to do a review of a Maxpedition bag and it turns out to be a video of "Look at what gear my credit card bought that I stuffed into the Maxpedition bag" instead. Thank you for a clear detailed review and demo of the features as well as the little extras about the bag we did not know about like the 3 carry options and the stretch velcro flaps inside the bag. Also the option to tie things down on the bottom of the bag. Where can we find those strap tie downs or managers to tidy up the long compression straps?
Great review, I must thank you for pointing me out the web dominators. I can't believe I had never heard of them, I have been tying excess straps on my bags with very complicated knots. So complicated I could only do them once. Thanks again and take care!!
Very nice! I've been really interested in the Proteus and as soon as I saw this I knew it was a somewhat bigger version of that pack which is what I've been wanting.
Hello, Stefan: I appreciate your well-presented review of the Maxpedition Sabercat. I'm thinking of buying one for long-distance running. I'll then pack it with plentiful stuff so I can be refreshed at the end of my run. However, I don't know how the loaded fanny pack will perform under the constant jarring movements in running. I don't even know if the pack will resist sagging. Will you please provide your opinion?
For those looking for a nicer Maxpedition camera bag, the Maxpedition Colossus allows far more options and storage capacity. A bit more expensive but you get additional size to really allow for gear storage... and it comes with a nice integrated strap.
Thanks Stefan! I own the same one and except for the main compartment it's full of my survival + geocaching gear. Main compartment varies on use. I love the many compartments and attachment points, but one problem is that it gets too heavy while fully loaded, so you need the extra shoulder strap together with the hip belt. 2nd problem I have is that there's no good way to add a 1L water bottle. I tried the bottle holder on the hip belt but it gets too heavy and slowly destroys the stitching...
Very cool pack with a thorough review. It looks like a decent survival pack to leave in a car, or maybe a day pack like suggested. Perhaps if you put a suspender strap on the pack, it wouldn't be cumbersome to carry on the waist.
Great review but I don't get Maxpedition sometimes. Why have the side pockets diagonal zipper open bigger at the back of the bag instead of the front. They do some weird sewing… Like the diagonal zipper on the vulture 2?? Just make it horizontal
nice vid, Stefan! I wonder if the side compartments are sized to hold 1-litre PET bottles? not dedicated, of course, but could it work in a pinch? thanks, Gergely (sveqs)
Whoops! Last comment sent prematurely! LOL. I use mine for day hikes and it holds my Jetboil and some food. I attached a rolly poly for carrying water and other drinks.
Great review, Stefan. Most Max reviewers never show how _small_ the bag is. You demonstrate that point well. I also think the size/weight ratio of this bag is poor (it weighs a lot since the materials are so heavy). Finally, I was never impressed by this bag because the straps always get in the way of everything. Yes, I know one can mod, but that's even more money - especially to do it right! PS Is that a Fenix E05 I saw?
I thought I could use this to carry my Nikon D700 with MD10, but I think it will be too small for my needs. :( I need a padded bag that is around 6.5" deep. thanks for the review.
Don't know if you're still looking, but the OneTigris Conqueror Waist Bag seems almost identical. A few minor differences in the internals, but the overall layout and dimensions are the same. I just got one of these myself and it looks pretty good so far. www.onetigris.com/catalog/product/view/id/175
But still, shipping this bag from Germany to the US doesn't make sense. In the end, you pay more for shipping costs and customs fees than for the actual bag. I'm sure you will find a seller in your country.
Maxpedition, bring this back
The best review of the Sabercat Versipack on TH-cam.

i guess it's kinda off topic but does anybody know of a good site to stream newly released tv shows online?

Awesome your the first reviewer I've seen who's mentioned the external slip pockets.
I have both and they are outstanding. I use the smaller proteus as a work EDC bag. Thanks for the review. Keep up the outstanding work.
I have never heard of this bag. Looks like it would make for a great camera bag.
Thanks for the review!
Stefan, your reviews are excellent. For each Maxpedition product I own I have ended up being sold by your detailed informative review. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Going to need a dedicated closet for all the Maxpedition stuff your making me buy. Lol
Great review! Thank you!

Most excellent review!
Darling, I simply must have a zombie hunter patch of my very own!
@mrmonkeyman50 Thank you, MMM50! - It's a 4Sevens Quark AA Mini. And before you ask, no, I will not enter the arena of flashlight reviews. LOL

Hey Stefan!" Nice Video.
Just a question: Fits a DIN A4 book/Block in the Main Pocket?
Greetings, Mastercheif
@svekusg Yes, it should work. It can definitely hold the 1 liter Nalgene bottle that I showed in the vdieo.
Good detailed review. Thanks Stefan.
Awesome review, thanks Stefan.
does the atmosphere become suffused with eerie mood music whenever I try on a Versipack? … if so, how much does the ambience control cost?
The ambience control is a cloud service (9.99 € per month).
Excellent review!
great review man i love it. you do an excellent job!!

Still no shoulder strap offered? Very upsetting
great video right to the point
i think this would work well for me for a "go bag" for antelope hunting when and if i have to drop my main pack to double time to a spot
I thought I could use this to carry my Nikon D700 with MD10, but I think it will be too small for my needs. :( I need a padded bag that is around 6.5" deep.
thanks for the review.
It would be great if Maxpedition came up with a series of bags for photographers.
It looks like this bag has been discontinued. What would be a good alternative that is similar?
Don't know if you're still looking, but the OneTigris Conqueror Waist Bag seems almost identical. A few minor differences in the internals, but the overall layout and dimensions are the same. I just got one of these myself and it looks pretty good so far.

Not sold in the US currently.

I'm sorry, I can't provide you with any first-hand experience because I don't carry it as a fanny pack.
very interresting thx
Jeez, an Edelweiss bag!
???
That bag would have been better if it had one side pouch for water bottle
@mrmonkeyman50 Definitely not. I don't even own a fish tank. LOL
