I was sitting in the room with about 30 or 40 other people and Darlene walks in and says “alright guys I just wrote this new song, I’ve never played it to anyone. But we’re gonna do it at the next conference”. The song was Shout to The Lord. 27 years later I accidentally stumbled on this video and I’m absolutely gobsmacked that spirit filled music made it to the American Idol stage.

Yes, that's probably true of a few of them, but I saw a lot of genuineness in most of these singers, certainly David Archuleta. This was powerful to see on international TV. Wish we could see this sort of thing more often. The Gospel of Christ is so often just swept under the rug and replaced with raunchy stuff.
The previous show ran long so our DVR didn’t record it all. Therefore, we had no idea they ended it with Shout to the Lord. When this show began with Ryan announcing they were singing this song, my wife and I looked at other, jaws dropped. By the time they were done, we were in tears! Thanks to the producers for bucking trends, letting them sing this song twice, and correctly the second time!
