My parents wrote Jesus Got Ahold Of My Life in August of 1972. The song was written in Flemish and translated into English by my mother. My parents were Hippies trying to reintegrate back into society.
How my mother loved this man's voice. She was what I would call a 'prayer warrior', lived to age 96, and has been gone from this earth for 9 years now. Her last 6 years were especially sad and difficult. Even years before that she would say she was ready 'to go home.' I can truly identify with that. I thank God she is not here today to witness how much worse this old world has become.
I can relate too. Every day I think how much harder it must be for God to watch the world that He made with His own voice and breath go deeper and deeper into filth and rejection of Him. And how I could never let my only child die for a place whose people are so sinful! Me? Sure. Take me any day. Not my innocent child. I couldn't do it. But God can. And He DID! And only because of Him I will see Him again one day. I am ready to end the pain and begin the glory.

Was looking for a choir version that lacked a distinct lead and struck out. Tried this instead, glad I did. He's not flamboyantly adding to the hymn, he's not calling attention to himself, he's not wildly gesticulating and making a showpiece of himself. That simplicity makes it powerful. And, best of all, he actually enunciates.

His words are clear and articulate and you can understand everything he sings. I'm sure he learned a lot of this in college as he studied music. If a person can not understand what you are singing, it just sounds like mush. I love his music and his voice.
