    Hi James,
    Thanks so much for the great video! I think I've decided on the 2021 Specialized Rockhopper Comp 29 in the gloss white silver metallic color (I was also considering the new 2021 Giant Talon 2 29'er in the concrete color). Still a little on the fence between the 2 bikes but do prefer the color of the Specialized over the Giant.. With respect to sizing on the Specialized, I am a bit confused as it seems I've been getting 2 different answers depending on the source (whether it be their website or some of the shops I've called). I am 5'9 and usually fall into the medium size frame for most brands but on the specialized website, one sizing tool puts me in a large and the other "size chart" puts me at a medium. Because of the "bike drought" there aren't any local shops that have 1 of each size for me to compare so was really hoping for your expert opinion before I purchase. Thanks so much James!

    Really enjoyed the in depth bike check that you went through on this. I tried to find one of these bikes in stock at my local shop and even within a 200 mile radius. Couldnt find one at all cause of the pandemic. I really like the way this bike looks and the parts they put on it but I would want the 29" version for me in an xxl. Bought a fuji traverse instead the guy called said he had a kona gravel bike in stock since i was interested and he let me bring back the fuji and trade it for full store credit towards the gravel bike which is awesome.

    Thank you for the very detailed info on this bike. It has helped me be able to recommend it to my girlfriend knowing medium is the biggest frame for 27.5, and that a dropper post can later be added.

    At 5'6" 1/2, I tried both 29er and 27.5 size M Rockhopper base and Sports. I prefer 27.5 a lot more for its easy to turn and control. 29er just feels too twitchy and not as stable as 27.5 when turning and not as fast to accelerate. I higher recommend shorter riders like me to try 27.5 before making a decision on the size of the wheelset for Rockhopper.

    • @hulktruck3264
      @hulktruck3264 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm 5'9 and still prefer the playful 27.5 because the 29er feels like turning a tank (probably wouldn't for guys tall enough or experienced on handling bikes)

    • @georgiaguardian4696
      @georgiaguardian4696 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hulk Truck Exactly! 29er bikes are good at rolling over things but it just feel like handling a tank comparing to a 27.5. I tested both the exact same model except the tire sizes. At soon as I hopped on the 27.5 after trying 29, I know 27.5 is for me.

    my local bike shop has a small 2020 specialized rockhopper comp on 29″ wheels for the standard price £599. this should fit fine as l had a 15″ specialized stumpjumper M2 on 26″ wheels (?) many moons ago which l 99% used on road or gravel trails. l have a choice of choosing this rockhopper comp, even a rockhopper sport or basic rockhopper OR choose the cannondale trail 5 or 6 or 7. so which would yourselves choose, the cannondale trail 7 which is £450 or pay the extra bucks for the rockhopper comp. l do prefer the look of the specialized rockhoppers to cannondale, but more importantly which is the better bike for the money? is there much of a difference between the 2021 and 2020 rockhopper comp? would it be reasonable to ask for a discount since it is a 2020 that the bike shop has. thanks for your suggestion and comments

    I bought a medium framed 27.5 Rockhopper expert. Im between 5.7 - 5.8ft tall. I didnt realise the reach on the bike was only 415mm. Thats too short. Im guessing thats why they put one of those long stems on it, to try and make the bike longer.

    Good review. This seems to be almost exactly like my 2020 Pitch Comp 1x. The rims and head tube angle might be the only difference (need to go back and review the specs on both) $50.00 price increase for newer year Rockhopper name is probably on par.

    • @Jamesthebikeguy
      @Jamesthebikeguy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      About right. The new Rockhopper 27.5 is a continuation of the Pitch just a touch more modern. The new RH has .5deg slacker, 5mm loger chainstays, shorter reach, and taller stack. Just modernized the Pitch.

    Rockhopper Comp vs Expert?
    Is the sram set and rockshox really going to make a difference?
    Im a beginner looking at these bikes but im struggling to justify the expert as an beginner bike because of the price but dont want to settle for 2nd best?
    Will i be happy with the stout setup and suntour fork or will i be wanting more after a month of purchasing the comp?

    This bike works well for a little bit, but after just a little while, things started to break. It is now at the point where so many things have broken on it that I’ve spent more than the bike is originally worth on replacement parts, such as the fork, the 2 chainrings at the front, the brakes, the rims, the cranks and the hub. I wish I had spent more money to get a bike more appropriate for my riding, and I wish I had put in a bit more research as for what kind of a bike this was. I would only ever recommend for someone looking to do light xc, as it won’t last long doing anything more than that.

    • @Jamesthebikeguy

      Keep in mind as you increase your riding goals the bike needs to follow suit

    • @josephgoodsman321
      @josephgoodsman321 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get that, but I expected it to hold up to significantly more than it did, I was only riding it for a couple of weeks as a complete beginner when I snapped a rim, and I think it would have definitely been cheaper overall to just buy a bike with a slightly more durable spec

      you would have to replace the front fork to fit a 29. yes they technically would work, but not without the fork upgrade.
