1: can use to probe ahead for soft, weak ice
2: IF fall through, the sticks bridging the hole, may just get you out.

(As A Welcome Mat) Then Place It Outside On The Ground Nail's Up, If A Bear Try's To Get Thru Ur Door At Night, It Will Step On The Board Of Nail's, Also I Would Add An Inside Door Brace Of Some Sort...But U Do Have A Great Little Set-Up...
