If you have also done any of these bad hair habits, let me know in the comments how many fingers you were left with🖐Another special thank you to Tangle Teezer for partnering with me on this video. You have all seen me use the Tangle Teezer Wet Detangler amzn.to/3hVLiaN many times before on this channel and I was super excited when they decided to work with me on this! Thanks for the love & support you show me each and every week. See you next Tuesday xo

I’ll forget to wear a bonnet at night and it completely messes up my hair. Frizz, messes up curl pattern, break up curls, etc etc. Worst thing ever!

Okay I haven’t seen many videos of this idea but since I consider you a finger coil Queen because of the video you did comparing finger coils vs the denmen brush; it had me wondering?? What are some different types of finger coils and which could be best for different hair types🤔

When I was younger my mom used to brush out my hair everyday (omg it hurt so bad) which could be the reason my hair is so fine today 🤔. Now that I am an adult though I haven’t been brushing my hair while it is dry for a few years now. I also didn’t protect my hair at night. I thought up until a few years ago that only people with type 4 curls had to do that. But now my curls are protected at night. Love your videos Mel!

Oh man...that first one. I have ALWAYS shampooed my hair. I do a cowash every now and then when I feel like I need to retain some moisture, but I just cannot imagine not shampooing my hair. My scalp gets crazy after 4-5 days as it is. I think the only one of these I am still a tiny bit guilty of is refreshing with water. But I only do that here and there because I pineapple at night and it stretches the curls around my hairline out. I find just letting it get some steam from a hot shower works better though! Love your videos Mel! You were one of the first I watched when I decided to go back to my natural texture and I have just binge watched videos since then simply because you are just so fun to watch! Sister💕! Can you please make the next video about ‘why your curly hair tangles a lot?’ I really need your help 🥺 my hair tends to be drier on day 3 which can cause the curls to mat together. Applying more product and water doesn’t help me cause I have low porocity hair. You know what happens? My hair falls out while getting the tangles out, and my scalp hurts from the dryness while doing that.

The only thing I have to do with my now damaged wavy hair, that is getting curlier every week, is rewet it almost everyday at least to a slightly damp wet .. because it's much more loose than yours and it's still transitioning, and i wake up and i pull it out of the bonnet, and its still in curl clumps just frizzy as hell and needs some tlc.. I follow all 5 steps of styling, and I baby it otherwise. But it's getting so much more curly and thanks to your help, even though we have different hair textures, I can't tell you how valuable your advice has been. Thank you always Mell!!!!

Thank God I learned to do better and get the right shampoo and conditioner. The other issues have been corrected thanks to you, primarily! Thanks for teaching me how to take care of my crazy mane! I can't believe I used to do that. But now I don't and that's good. The latest one is the the protecting my hair while sleeping. I used to HATE wearing anything on my head and especially since I'm a wild sleeper, whatever was on my head (definitely not silk or satine btw) came off so I felt like it was pointless. But then I saw your videos and it was like a whole new world opened before my eyes hahaha

Now, and even when I wasn't embracing the curls, two fingers down for me, three remain up. Fingers down for 1) not having a night time bonnet and/or pillowcase, and 2) a tendency to use water every day to refresh). Actually, I ordered a bonnet two days ago from Amazon, though, ha ha! Should arrive tomorrow. :) Thanks for the hints! I will do better!

I have wavy hair and you helped me and my friend a lot!!! Only a year ago I was trying the curly hair trend and buying so much unnecessary products for me hair. Now I’m saving money with just using simple methods and simple hair products 🥰🥰🥰.

I had 3 down but two of them got to go back up because I have learnt from watching your fab channel.
The finger that stayed down, dry detangling. I most of the time detangle in the shower with a comb bit I have fine wavy hair that can get away with detangling dry sometimes.
Thanks Mell for the hairrific tips

I dry detangle with coconut oil as a prepoo, I have noticed a good change in my hair and less hair shed since I started dry detangling 🙂
I do mist it a bit with my mister so it isn bone dry, but I do the bulk of my detangling the day before wash day

Definitely fell into the DevaCurl No Poo trap. I had chemical damage from the products actually. It took over 6 months for my scalp and hair to recover.

High five!! Yes, I have done four of five mistakes. I have always used shampoo. Your videos have taught me to how to take care of my curls: protecting when sleeping, wet detangling, prep-style-finish routine and so on. Dry brushing was terrible...Yikes. But I didn't know better back then. I did it when I was a child and very young when the internet was just coming, so not much information to get there. Actually, I altogether stopped dry brushing on my own accord for many years ago, because it just didn't make any sense. An excellent video again, thank you!

with the shampooing twice thing- i tried that trick the other day but i didn’t understand what i was supposed to do so i shampooed, then conditioner, then shampooed again and conditioned again and let me tell you; that is the SOFTEST my hair has ever been i was so so happy

    • @ManesByMell
      @ManesByMell  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hahaha I’m so happy to hear that for you!! But no need to condition in between your washes. If you have a couple different shampoos at home, use the more cleansing shampoo first and then a more conditioning one for the second wash to avoid drying out the hair too much 👌🏼

Closed my day on a fun moment watching you explaining what i have done previously on my hair 😂😅 (fortunately not the 5 of them) and realize that... you taught me so much about how to take care of my hair in less than a year (yeah, just discovered you in 2020 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️ didn't know i was wasting so much time without you... )😘

Ok, gotta stop the over manipulation. I’ve been trying to decide on how I want to wear my hair to my daughter’s wedding...in July! Doing buns, twists, and ponytails, way too much these days. Just gonna do a warm oil treatment or a mask and let the hairs be for a while.

OMG! I've done all of that! The worst one was the no poo, took me years to realize why my ends were always thin and my hair wasn't growing very fast. The one I still sort of do is "dry" detangle sometimes, but only when I have a bunch of oil in my hair and I will sleep with It in my hair and scalp, of course I am very gentle when I am doing It.

I grew up in a family of ONLY straight hair and I'm the only one with curls. Needless to say I never learned how to care for curls properly until about a year and a half ago. I used to heat style, dry brush, and straighten the life outta my hair because I thought there was something wrong with it and it didn't "do what it's supposed to". I've never had healthier hair than now after cutting my once waist length hair to my shoulders (6 or so inches at a time because I can't rock a pixie) and now I'm working on growing it back out the healthy way

Omg finally someone recommending shampooing TWICE I've been doing it pretty much always and it just works for me much better than just once but all the time I see people shampooing just once so I started thinking if I do it too much or something. As long as it's not a shampoo with sulphates that would dry my scalp and hair then I'm fine I guess.

In salon we would ALWAYS shampoo twice especially if the hair is very dirty. It’s better to over cleanse and re-condition than to under cleanse !

I had 3 fingers down- never did the water refresh (didn't know about hair porosity, just knew mine took 8 years to dry 🤣). And I didn't do severe hairstyles. I wore ponytails for work because I had to, and used the thin elastics because they were the only ones allowed 😐

I never dried detangled myself, but when I was little, my min used to do it to me. And I never liked elastics because they would get stuck, I used ribbons. But yes, all my fingers were down. But I haven't done any of those things in the almost 2 years I have following the MGM (Mane Girl Method) 😁 💗 Wouldn't have these curls without your help. I wish I would've known these things when I was younger.

    1.I never done
    2. Ooft I do it because usually It gets so bad by the time I end up washing it because I’m lazy
    3. I haven’t really done because I’m a broke teenager who needs to get a job but I do now have a silk pillowcase and I wear a pineapple
    4. At the start of year 7 when I was still learning I did that but now I’ve learned to embrace it and take care of it
    5. Before my hair started to become more curly I would do this almost everyday and it didn’t help that I had to wear my hair up when I was in primary school so I wore a high pony tail everyday luckily now in high school I get to wear it down and everyone and new teacher I have complements it I’m gonna get more compliments as a new school year is starting for me soon
Thank you so much Mell and Amanda you have saved my hair and now I get to teach my friends and family
