saw it twice in 8 months at the picadilly theatre with Jamie as Christian and Liisi as Satine (they have fantastic chemistry) and the whole show was absolutely astounding. best show ive ever seen and everyone plays their part exceptionally well. would go every month if i could!
Hi, what is the dress code to watch it? Everyone on the audience are wearing black tie. Is it a requirement? Planning a trip to London for my birthday next month and was planning to watch the show.
@priscilaw57 - I saw it two days ago in London. Smart casual is absolutely fine. You’ll will have a fantastic time. It is spectacular, bonkers and quite fabulous 😊
@priscilaw57 maybe it depends on the location, but at the theatre the other night, everyone was dressed to impress. Suits on the men, lots of sequins and gowns for the women. I saw exactly 1 person dressed casual and you could tell she was regretting her choice of wardrobe.
In 1985, I was visiting my sister in West Germany. (There were 2 back then.) We went on the American dependent tour of Europe (8 countries in 5 days) and spent a day and night in Paris. The Moulin Rouge night club was the highlight of the trip. While the movie was a bit risque it was tame compared to the real show. The real show was high energy, gorgeous women scantily clad, extremely handsome men in skintight costumes. "How are going to keep them down on the farm once they've seen Paris".
I too have had the pleasure of visting The Moulin Rouge. I would actually disagree that the real thing is more risque. I understand what you are meaning but I would say it's much more classy that this. There's semi nudity yes , but I felt it was only to highlight beauty rather than sexuality. This seem more sexual than the real thing. When we went we were way back in the queue but for some reason were ushered to the centre front table! One of the most memorable evenings entertainment I've had.
@mickram23 As a prude American, we would see nudity as sexual rather than beautiful. As a worldly American, I see nudity as beauty. God doesn't make mistakes. And just because David is naked, that doesn't make him sexual, unless you are in the South and then get the smelling salts because Aunt Mae and Uncle Joe are about to pass out when they find picture 📸 of David in an art book in the library.
@@sonjak8265 a lot of Americans see traveling as checking a box and a status thing. Pretty vapid and a waste of time and money if you ask me. But if you don't bother learning any other languages, history or cultures, how much more could it be than that.
This show is fantastic on the West End and in the States. I dunno if they planned it, but this actor playing Babydoll kinda looks like Patti Lupone and I love it. It's all absolutely incredible.
I saw Zoe and Adam as Satine and Christian on Thursday (along with a whole heap of other covers) and it was one of the best nights of theatre I've ever had, and I've had a lot!!
Saw this show last Friday 14th Oct in Piccadilly, this show is in a league of its own, seen it twice now and now looking at booking if for a third time, just can't get enough..
Just saw this in can can seats at the picidili theatre. Oh my goodness. This show is in a whole other league. Would recommend ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ never been so amazed - and I've seen ALOT of theatre
The astonishing Baz Luhrmann/Moulin Rough film will always be with me. I have seen the spectacle dozens of times and never tire of it. A work of art. This version....well lets say it is a work of commerce.
@@Bluey306 No, it is valid for what it is. I appreciate the ingenuity and thought involved in the stage production, not to mention the blood, sweat and tears it took to produce. I see it as a work of art...but not on the same level as the filmed version.
I discovered the musical "by accident", in July '23 when I was in London for Bruce Springsteen's two concerts. I know London very well, so I was looking for something to do in the afternoon before the show in Hyde Park. I was thunderstruck, literally. I sang, danced, cried, and laughed like I haven't in years. and I'm almost 60 years old, 40 of which I spent traveling the world to see Bruce. I've seen the musicaln at least once a month since then. I live in Milan, get my ticket as soon as I have some time, leave by fly at 10 a.m. and arrive at 12 noon in London, headed to the Piccadilly Theatre for the 2:30 p.m. show and then at 8 p.m. fly back home. and or I will as long as it's on in London. see it, experience it, love it. it's just amazing!!! All the best, Alessandro
The video is making it look kind of awkward...it was really great watching it live in the West End! And I'm a huge fan of the movie. I liked this musical better than the Lion King adaption at least😅
Never noticed how much it seems like they just did a louder version of the emcee from Cabaret for mr top hat there . Actually, starts off the same don't it? And the main female love interest is the popular singer at the night club? Of course the stories get very different because the main guy doesn't turn out to be gay and there's no rising third Reich causing dissent and concern for everyone in the story 🤣. Just an interesting observation I've never made before lol
I just saw it live a couple days ago in Tampa, Florida. The comedic parts were very good. The big dramatic parts, of what the show is mostly, were flat, dull, dead. Most of the audience loved it. I could not find the appeal.
I always bring earplugs with me in a little zippered pouch keychain on my keys. I have sensitive ears, and never know when somewhere will be too loud for me
I watched the moulin rouge musical today in London and was so disappointed. They didn’t sing the numbers from the original film… and sang Katy Perry and lady gaga 🥵
Rock n Roll pronunciation is not as clean as Broadway vocals. Pop music/R&B phrasing is more clipped, a lil sloppy…I hear that vibrato that Broadway artists use. It ain’t funky ‘ nough for me.
Gosh I hate to say it but I was severely disappointed in moulin rouge. This was the only good song in the entire show. It was filled with ballads and I just was not impressed
Nope. I can watch the movie instead of this. The movie was so much better. The one thing I can give this credit for is that they picked someone who looks a little more like Jim Broadbent with the right makeup. Past that? The movie’s better.
Most plays will fail, even while drawinng in an audience because the methods changed on delivery. Lots of strategies fail, you dont deliver the content in one song that is inside content for the Moulin Rouge even while it's a hit...why? Because then you're not performing the other lesser known songs...so logistics, methology and strategy fail miseraby...and most will ignore and go about their day while the industry fakes another climax. Delivering the samething year after year, is also a huge massive fail...it's like you're entertaining the same rats..all engaged in a money laundering machinery and wheel.

Only Americans can visit 8 countries in 5 days. I am glad you survived.
It's because at heart, the French are more sentimental. Hiding it until the last moment builds . . . tension.

So lucky you got to see it I hope you had fun!
