The Rhenish is one of my favorite symphonies and I have heard many recordings over the years. This one ranks among the better versions bit I prefer brisker tempos. As you would expect from the Berlin Phil., the playing is superb.
Expert handling of Schumann's tricky rhythms, syncopation, etc., especially in movement V. Also, Muti displays an elegant minimalist approach to beating many of his measures, often indicating no more than one simple thing he wants the players to bring out in any given phrase. It's a pleasure to watch and to listen how it plays out in the orchestra.
Eccellente esecuzione di Riccardo Muti, che qui si trova davanti ai Berliner da pochi anni lasciati da Karajan e ai quali basta mezza parola, in sede di concertazione, per comprendere COSA devono fare in un determinato momento..........
Mahler also re-orchestrated Mozart et al. I think Schumann is in good company. And no wonder Mahler re-orchestrated his "thick orchestration" to what, an even thicker orchestration?!
I would agree that given the wrong conductor, the Rhenish might need some help but not for this performance. I believe that Leonard Bernstein was the first maestro to play the original with the NY Phil. and that performance is really special.
Strepitosa direzione del Maestro Muti e grande orchestra i Berliner.Magnifici.
Superb Maestro, superb orchestra, superb symphony. You can't go wrong with this combination. Signore Muti is really one of the all-time greats.

Orquestra maravilha, sinfonia linda. Martha Guimarães
導入からしばらくは細かいアンサンブルはまだまだでしたが途中のhornの素晴らしいユニゾンからはパウケも絡み合い次第に良くなり聴かせてもらいました。

Re na na naaa, Re na na naaa, hay hayyyy, Re na na na naaaa....
Oh, but how the ear tires of Schuman's static harmonic movement and same thick orchestration. No wonder Mahler re-orchestrated them.
Your ears Sir...Not mine and all music loving people ( Great performers some).
Envy???
