    In the previous episode, we established a new city in a new region with the purpose of using it to support a ton of new farms that would could, in turn, use to farm influence. In this episode, we'll build those farms and attempt to farm influence. We'll see how effective they can be, and test out farming for influence in Waldbrand as well.
    By the end, we'll have enough influence to claim ALL of Hildebolt's lands at once! Enjoy!

      Here is a small excerpt from chatgpt about comments and youtube algorithm engagement
      Ah, the mystical world of TH-cam comments, where the brave souls of the internet gather to share their wisdom, wit, and occasionally, their utter lack of both. Welcome to the grand arena of comment engagement, where every keystroke is a battle cry in the war for the almighty algorithm's favor.
      Picture this: you've just posted a video showcasing your unparalleled skills in underwater basket weaving, and now it's time to unleash the comment section beast. But fear not, intrepid content creator! Engaging comments are your Excalibur in the digital realm.
      Firstly, let's address the sacred art of the "first" comment. Ah, the pinnacle of internet achievement! The race to be the inaugural commentator is a testament to human ambition. It's like planting your flag on the moon, except the moon is a TH-cam video and your flag is a hastily typed "FIRST!" But beware, for with great power comes great responsibility. One mistyped letter, and you risk becoming the laughingstock of the commentariat.
      Next up, we have the cherished "like if you're watching in [insert year here]" comment. Ah, yes, because nothing screams engagement like reminding people that time is an unstoppable force marching us all towards oblivion. Plus, it's a great way to gauge whether your content is timeless or about as relevant as last year's meme.
      And who could forget the iconic "who's here after [insert viral event here]?" comment? Because nothing solidifies your place in internet history like riding the coattails of a viral sensation. It's the digital equivalent of photobombing a celebrity selfie, except instead of a red carpet, it's a comment section, and instead of a celebrity, it's a cat playing piano.
      Of course, we can't overlook the classic "fake comment pretending to be a famous person" gambit. Because why strive for authenticity when you can pretend to be Elon Musk praising the latest cat video? It's like playing a game of internet Clue, except instead of Colonel Mustard in the library with a candlestick, it's Elon Musk in the comments with a poorly disguised pseudonym.
      But let's not forget the pièce de résistance: the humble reply. Ah, the sweet symphony of internet discourse. Whether you're engaging in a spirited debate about the merits of pineapple on pizza or exchanging friendly banter with a fellow viewer, replies are the lifeblood of the comment section. It's like a digital cocktail party, except instead of canapés, there are emojis, and instead of small talk, there's a heated argument about whether Han shot first.
      So there you have it, dear content creators and comment connoisseurs alike. Comment engagement on TH-cam is a delicate dance of wit, whimsy, and a healthy dose of shameless self-promotion. So go forth, brave internet warriors, and may the algorithm ever be in your favor. And remember, when in doubt, just comment "FIRST!" and hope for the best.

    EDIT: I am baffled by all the likes - thank you so very much!
    The post mill is the earliest type of European windmill. Its defining feature is that the whole body of the mill that houses the machinery is mounted on a single central vertical post. The vertical post is supported by four quarter bars. These are struts that steady the central post. The body of the windmill can be turned around the central post to bring the sails into the wind. All post mills have an arm projecting from them on the side opposite the sails and reaching down to near ground level. With some, as at Saxtead Green, the arm carries a fantail to turn the mill automatically. With the others the arm serves to rotate the mill into the wind by hand. (Not my text, googled it. But i am dutchy and we do know these mills :) )

    when I was a wee lad, we lived in a farming community, many family members work on farms, so I asked one of them. threshing removes the grains from the stalks, and it's important to have it happen sooner after harvest rather than later as the quality of the grain can quickly diminish, especially as it sits in moisture, increasing the risk of mold.

  • @stoodlemayer

    Loving the Manor Lords content! About the farming: the calendar for crop rotation runs from October thru September. The harvest the first season was low because your farmers plowed and sowed the fields in March when the game wants that to happen in October and November.
    Additionally, there is a bug with the rotation calendar where any crops not harvested by the end of September won’t be harvested as the field has ‘moved on’ to the next ‘year’ of the rotation. The reason you had a so little flax was because your workers didn’t get to that field in time. (This bug also has a fun quirk where the farmers will start to plow and sow the fields in September if they finished harvesting early, but it will be the crop from the current ‘rotation year’ forcing them to start over in October when the ‘rotation year’ switches. It sounds like the dev is already aware of the bug.)
    More importantly, a lesson I learned the hard way: don’t grow the same crop in succession. A few years into farming, I noticed that the fertility of my emmer fields was tanking. Not only should you have a field go fallow on a regular basis, growing a different crop seems to help restore the field’s fertility. (By the time I caught this, enough time had passed that I couldn’t remember the original numbers for the flax and barley, but I think the emmer fields may have become more fertile for those crops. So maybe cycling through different crops doesn’t just restore fertility but increases fertility for different crops? I started a new playthrough because that village was about to starve to death, so I’m planning on tracking it more closely on my current village.)

      @@CityPlannerPlays That's the historical idea of crop rotation as I was taught. Different crops need different nutrients. One year one crop next year a different one and then leave it fallow letting grow whatever grows and have livestock grazing the field where the dung acts as a natural fertilizer.

      The classic rotation is a grain year, a legume year, and a fallow year. I haven't played enough of Manor Lords to remember if they have peas as a crop, but Farthest Frontier does and it's essential to rotate in peas or else your crop fields will all eventually become useless weed gardens

    Hey Phil! The only thing I have seen that makes me prefer small fields is that workers will not start picking up the harvest from a field until it is completely done, and a field can't be plowed until it is completely harvested. When it is a huge field, there is a lot of time wasted waiting around for one dude to finish his little corner of the field to start plowing. What I have done instead is split a 2 morgen field into 8-10 super small fields and have them run the same crops as they would normally. There is no reduction in harvest, and it should save time!

    • @davidsmithbristol4
      @davidsmithbristol4 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +11

    Turning off the woodcutter's lodge won't help with your lack of timber, they actually fell their own trees to turn them into firewood. And also if you haven't noticed yet, for minor trades you don't actually need to pay for a trade route. This makes it faster because then you have a dedicated trader for this good, without a dedicated route you can still trade these minor goods whenever a travelling merchant comes through.

    To answer your question, yes. Threshing converts the harvested crop into the usable “Grain” that is used by the windmill to generate flour. I believe raising the threshing priority might mean that the game will pull workers from harvesting and plowing to work on threshing.

    • @duckywatch2024
      @duckywatch2024 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes - my experience is that you can place a higher priority on threshing the wheat into grain, then tending to the fields if needed. It balances this priority against the field priority.

    • @kensnaps
      @kensnaps 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Especially important if you're importing wheat and need to have it threshed into grain so it can continue the process of becoming bread. If you don't adjust the priority, all of your workers will stay tending the fields and all of your imported wheat will not move through the production chain.

  • @danielwarren7110

    You need more storage, the store and granary can in advance allow you to only store certain items. Your logging camp is maxed storage at 28 and before you added the third person it was full with 28 so the staff are sitting around twiddling their thumbs... you can add the oxen but if the wood is not being used and the stores are full of other things nothing will happen ... it is better to build another logging camp as resources are evenly stored.
    In the UK a lot of windmills are built in a similar way, but with a circular stone base.. Then the windmill itself was on an axle and the outer skin of the building had small wheels, so you can turn the windmill to face the wind. This design looks like a European version where the central pin allows for the re-facing of the mill to always get the best wind use.. hence the ladder not stairs so you can rotate the whole building.

  • @Eljefe329
    @Eljefe329 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +13

    The bottlenecking that's happening with your logging camp is just the fact that there's no off-site storage for timber, so all of the timber is stored within that building and has a cap of around 30, I think. If you want more timber on hand, just make sure to build another logging camp and you'll be set! Helps for those mass housing upgrades!

    A possible good approach to bigger fights with low casualties could be:
    - pikeman frontline bait, with bracing to stop enemy charges on their tracks
    - swordsman or any other melee on the flanks to prevent encirclement, while waiting to reinforce front if needed
    - archers probably best on flanks behind swordsman to prevent friendly fire (from what I could tell from previous videos, that's a thing, a small text pops up during fights and I assume that's the issue)
    Keep in mind, keeping flank units, a tiny bit behind the frontline to not steal agro.

    Armchair general here. Been loving your building thought processes and at your military prowess (or lack there of). But good on you for having a sense of humor and knowing your own strengths and weaknesses. Traditionally you want your front lines to be spearmen supported by your swordsmen from behind. Spears have more reach and allow you to halt incoming charges easier or dismount cavalry, if cavalry become a factor. Also spearmen are usually easier to train and cheaper cannon fodder for front lines. Swordsmen rush in to assist spearmen in melee once they halt the initial charges. Archers work when protected by standing behind your spear and swords. Trees surrounding your city = ambush city. Typically you want the trees cleared around town so you can see incoming armies and attack before they are in the center of town because trees run right up to the houses.

    Threshing is when you separate the grain/fruit from the stock. I think in game this happens in the farmhouse you cant see the process on the progress bar. But before the harvest can be used by the miller, farmhands need to turn it into grain. I think the point is that if you want to speed up milling, higher prio will pull some farmers to threshing before all harvests are completed. If you're not in need of flour and bread urgently it can be kept low so the harvest is completed quicker before it goes bad. It just means you will wait longer before the product is available to the miller.

      Fields are recommended to max out at 1 Morgan BECAUSE of the ox perk; a farmer can't seed a field until an ox has plowed the ENTIRE field. The example below uses relative figures purely for demonstration.
      Let's say a 1.0 Morgan field takes 1.0 day to sow and 1.0 day to seed. Then a 0.5 Morgan field takes 0.5 days to sow and 0.5 days plant.
      If you place two 0.5 fields, then in the first half of the 1st day, the ox plows field 1 and the farmer does not seed.
      In the second half of the 1st day, the ox plows field 2 while the farmer seeds field 1
      On the first half of the 2nd day, the ox does nothing and the farmer seeds field 2.
      So, in our little example, two 0.5 fields take 1.5 days instead of the 2.0 days required by a 1.0 Morgan field. Because this is a simple sum of time, this would hold true for whatever the actual values plowing+seeding times are in game, including any inefficiencies in worker travel time, family needs (church, well, or tavern), weird computer math, Ai lobotomies, etc...
      There's nothing specifically wrong with what you, I just felt there was some reasoning you might've missed behind WHY field sizes are recommended to be lower.

    I think the reason people focus on "1 morgen" farming plots is because it's essentially advice for newer or less "theorycraft" kind of players. If you set up a massive farming plot when you have only a few families it can actually be detrimental to you because you likely won't be able to harvest all the crops in time so you've essentially wasted the time planting what doesn't get harvested. If you keep it to 1 morgen then that's generally a good size for a small village labor force, while also providing enough resources for them. That's just what I've picked up from the "1 morgen conversation" or whatever you want to call it lol, I could be wrong though.

    For anyone that doesn't know about threshing yet, Wheat comes out of the field and then gets turned into Grain. This takes place within the farmhouse once it's all harvested, this is the threshing process. Prioritizing it will make them do that over sowing the next crop, in case you really need to get that bread going. Otherwise they wont start threshing the wheat into grain until they're all done w/ the fields for the season

    That's why you make bread very slowly

    Threshing priority is for the grain as you said, but it will only get to that if there are not other higher jobs to do (ploughing etc.) or enough workers, so you can adjust the priority to get that done before the workers crack on with the field work :). I found this out with my first attempt at Windmill/bread supply chain! :) @5:47
    Alos for 16:30 the wheat goes to the farmhouse for processing, then turned into grain (as above) then finally moved to Windmill. Hope that helps a little.

    1. you can easier even out the ground with these platforms
    2. windmills come mainly from the north of Europe and were build in location were significant flooding occurred - the Plattform protects from flooding.
    3. The higher the windmill, the easier, more often and faster it works. Therefore the Plattform.

    Regarding the fields, one morgen is how much an ox can plough in a working morning (morgen literally means morning in German). In the game, though, I believe it's simply how much one family can plough in a day, so the barley field that fell behind schedule probably didn't get ploughed on time because there were, I'm assuming, more than 8 morgens assigned to that farmhouse. Again, these are primarily assumptions because I'm still new to the game myself.

    For me, ive found that with 4-5 farmers per farm house, they can sow and plant 5.5 Morgan, size fields without ox. (It's actually faster without ox from my experience)
    Do crop rotation, have 3 fields per farm. Only sow 1 field per season. Leave fallow for 2 seasons and plant 1 season. That has been my experience.
    In other games like this. I've been able to do 2 plants with 1 fallow, and been able to maintain fertility. But in ML it seems that you really need to not only use fallow fields, but also let the herds use fallow fields as pasture to keep fertility above 40%.

A morgen (German for Morning) is how much you can plough in the morning with a plow and oxen. So 1 Morgen is 1 mornings work, 2 Morgen is 2 mornings etc etc. It's varies in size but is fixed now at 2,500m^2

    With your farms having a one morgen plot twnds to be inefficient, splitting that into 8 smaller plots twnd to work best( in your case the 2 morgen plots would be about 16 smaller plots) this allows your oxen to plow a field really quickly and your spare workers to work on the other empty fields. Also have four farmhouses, assign an oxen to each and just two familys. Quadruple your plowing potential while mainting the same family count

    • @Nomad47
      @Nomad47 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I say the smaller plots because a bigger plot takes longer to plow. And I heard that if an open is plowing it then the other family's wont plow it the same time hence having the smaller plots. It also means if you don't finish harvesting or plowing before the sowing season or the fallow year then your losses aren't as great with several smaller fields compared to fewer larger fields

    Try activating the thrashing at your farmhouse - thrashing wheet should give you more grains in theory because you discarde the husks. The wheet usualy gets a lot cleaner and the flower as well. So the yeald should go up - in theory and I think it might solve the disapearing grain situation since the husks and stems are pron to mold.
    EDIT:
    The placement of the windmill improves the closer they are to the farmhouse ;)
    And
    The stock you see at the top is the overhang - you can switch between overhang and total stock

    The reason why the windmill is built up on the platform like that is so the whole thing can swivel whenever the wind changes direction. All the grain is sheltered inside and the workers don't have to move the windmill. More mouths to feed bigger needs for bigger grain mills. Bigger mills need bigger stronger sails to catch the wind. Some old mills still exist in Europe that requires a team to move the whole tower.

    Crop rotation is great in concept, but it has a serious flaw. It triggers the harvest right at September regardless of the crop's stage of growth. This sacrifices lots of potential yield. You can maximize productivity by micromanaging a bit, manually alternating fallow years, and checking the harvest immediately box when the crop is done growing. I've harvested as late as November without any problems.
