  • We have some interesting development in the garden. Also I am actively planting out ajuga plants. I hope I am not going to be sorry for it later - ajuga is a a very happy spreader! Enjoy!

That is an amazing story. I’m glad they did not come out during the day while you were working in the yard. I think I would’ve been a little scared. Thank you for telling us a story. Take care. I’m glad they found a new home.ðŸŒđ

Olga, you made me laugh describing the racoon issue. Bravo to you and your husband for finding kind ways to rid your property of these unwelcome guests. Aguga is so lovely. I can think of a few spots I may add some of this plant in the spring. Why not give it a try? Thanks for another entertaining and informative video. So glad TH-cam sent me your channel.

Loved this video ! My property is surrounded by woodland and we have many family of raccoons , and I actually feed ours 😅 , over the years I have hand raised many orphans . I think the measures you took will let them know they are not welcome 😊 thank you for doing it all in such a kind way . Love the plantings along the walk way ! That area is just magical !

I live very rural (working farm) and don’t mind my raccoon and skunks and opossum neighbors. (Coyote and Coy-dogs, foxes and black bears live around me but have never caused any disruption for our cattle or pigs. I hope it stays that way- ( they keep the vermin in check)They don’t disturb my vegetable garden nor my roses and I enjoy seeing them and sharing the space.Skunks clean the yard of grubs which in turn discourages the moles and voles. The deer cause the most damage but planting things that they don’t like helps keep them away. Viburnum and Lenten roses are great deterrents to deer. My hostas remain untouched! You do mind them as neighbors but have taken thoughtful and kind steps to discourage them. I’m glad it worked for you! A game camera in the garden might be fun for you and your family. I always enjoy your videos.

Thank you Virginia! You are a very good neighbor to your wildlife! Not sure if I would be happy with the bear around though.

No raccoons in New Zealand! No snakes either! Our pests are rabbits but even though I live in a rural area, I have never seen one in our garden, or the evidence thereof 😀😀

I think it wouldn't hurt to put some chicken wire at that hole, raccoons can move rocks fairly easily. Wondering too, if the light was facing the yard, maybe it would kind of blind them.? I have 3 possums that come on my front porch, to eat the cat food if I forget to bring it in. Not all together, but size wise they do look like mom, dad and a baby. They aren't harmful, but I don't want the cats to get after them either. And I think the ajuga will be really nice along the path.

I like the aguga! We use it in our garden too. It is a pretty plant, and better than weeds. We just move it when it grows somewhere we donot want it.
We had a lot of racoon activity in an old garden. My boys left soccer bags on the patio, and they tried to get into then. When we shooed them away, they growled. Yikes.
Now we have squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, possum, and occasionally groundhog. We are near woods and stream, so they have places to live, and I put repels all to keep them away from my beds. My husband saw a chipmunk eating a cherry tomato yesterday though, but we have enough to share.

Consider hot pepper powder and/or chickenwire in the area where they were living. Chimes, bells, or any noise making thing you can temporarily relocate should also help. Expect them to return once your gardening slows down for the year. Your municipal animal control office should be able to provide assistance.

Our front porch is part of the wildlife highway in our neighborhood. We had a groundhog take up residence for a while. I investigated “Dig Defence” barriers as a possibility for making it less easily accessible for digging under the porch. You might want to check them out. I like the idea of the prickly mat, too. The bright lights are something I didn’t know about; I’ll tuck that knowledge away should my neighbor’s raccoon family show up again. ðŸĶ ❌ ðŸĶ
