  • Even if you don’t have a fond memory or relationship with roses, you’d be hard pressed not to fall in love with them after a tour of Leon Ginenthal’s Der Rosenmeister Nursery in Ithaca, NY.
Lee spent the afternoon taking us through not only his extensive collection of roses-but also the design philosophy of his garden, which started out as a hayfield and eventually-with foresight, love and hardwork-turned into a rose oasis.

Hope you enjoy this thorough tour. Lee mentioned that there is one misidentification. The Mme. Isaac Perreire is actually an Antique 89. :)

I’m glad you qualified that as of all the roses shown Mme Isaac Pereire was one of the few I actually knew and I was sure the one shown wasn’t one. We all make mistakes 😊 Lovely video. This guy sure is a rose nerd! 🌹 I love the idea of Rose rustling btw! I could really get into that

This man is so cool really pays attention to detail! I loved this video, quite interesting how many virieties of roses exist and how far back they go. This also made me remember about the rose bush (red flower i think) that has been growing for generations in my grandparents' grandparents resting place at the cemetery in my hometown in Andalucía. I wrote my dad to ask him about it and tell him we need to take a cut. Thank u guys :)

I kind of felt sad watching this. I had a friend that died almost twenty years ago. He gave me a very small deciduous magnolia. And every year when it’s in flower, I remember. That’s the thing with plants, they are living memories, and as you take care of them, those that left continue to live through them. Thank you for sharing.

I even noticed the pigeon on the fence and wondered what that was about. Only to find out through his website he raises pigeons! His smile just warms the heart. Lovely. Inspiring. So good to see a person creating lovely healthy situations in the world. And boy the man power, $$$ that must have taken and the water. But it’s a good purpose for all of that. A beautiful creation and he loves to share it.

FYI I’ve heard that to clear your nose between sniffs you should smell your inner elbow, since we’re all used to our own personal scent. Supposedly that will reset things 🤷‍♀️

@@TheGreenDudde thanks for the recommendation. Don't forget about the Mohonk Mountain tour (the guy's private orchid collection) and also the Orchid Show in New York. :)
