For my engagement I chose a lab grown diamond, both for an ethical reason (just check the scums that run diamond mines in Africa) and also because the money we saved were all funds that we invested in our new home for our family. I understand tough that some people needs to be picky for whatever reason. Have fun.
What you mean is you bought a bigger lab diamond for the price of a smaller mine diamond…technically you can spend the same amount for both just vary in sizing
@@JavierJimenez-kn2ob There is some truth to that, but for me, getting it ethically outweighs more than the thought of enjoying a natural diamond that affects miners as well as the earth.
Who sells their diamonds? I’ve bought my wife a Diamond engament ring and you’d have to pry that ring from her cold dead hand! I’m sure in our marriage together I’m going to buy her more at it point what does it matter if it’s a lab grown diamond. Since I’m confident that we’re not selling them a lab grown is where I’m going to start! bigger is better ! TY for this awesome insight.
Dude, his maths are laughable. A 2K fake diamond is nothing less than a 2k worthless fake diamond. Millennials are so poor they keep investing in junk. LoL, so many things wrong in this video.
De beers does not control the market anymore. That news is from last century, update your information.Besides De beers has enough money to start making lab grown diamonds which btw they already are…just look it up
@@devangselvadia8879 My purpose in bringing up De Beers is to say that De Beers was afraid of sales plummeting due to the rise of lab grown diamonds. At one point they had control of most of the natural diamonds industry but the irony behind it is they now offer Light Box which caters to those with interest to lab grown jewellry
I really love the price comparison of the resale value. Diamonds are a huge money losing proposition if they ever need to be sold. I found it interesting that you can buy a top quality lab grown diamond, which is chemically identical to a natural diamond, lose ALL of your money if resale is $0.00, and still come out on ahead of reselling a natural diamond. This just proves the insane markup on natural diamonds. Debeers has done some fabulous marketing over the years to inflate the price of diamonds to where they are today. Reminds me a lot of Rolex...
True, however! moneywise if someone looks for a higher return on investment, a Rolex would be ideal. Lots of Rolex watches from the early 2000s almost doubled their prices in the second-hand market
It’s because real natural diamonds are unique. They are as rare as a fingerprint or snowflake and there’s only so much. It is a finite source which is why it will always be the best investment to purchase a genuine Diamond over lab grown.
Each grain of sand on the beach is unique and there is a "finite source". The exact same is true of natural diamonds. Diamonds might have less of a finite source BUT they are at best "semi-precious" and NOT rare at all. I am not "pussy whipped" or stupid so I do not buy diamonds. There are a lot of actually rare gems that make exquisite jewelry and talking points for my wife. For example Ammonite, black opal, Golden Sphalerite (dispersion more than three times that of a diamond),Tanzanite, Rhodochrosite, Diaspore, Kunzite. Her baroque (has both white and black) pearl necklaces always get comments when she wears them. Explaining her ammonite neckless ALWAYS gets more ohhs, and ahhhs than any type of diamond jewelry.

very well thought out video. I hadn't considered the poor resale of natural diamonds when we purchased an engagement ring. I'm glad we went with the lab grown.... We purchased a 1.77 carat and save around $15k!
Good job! Lab grown diamonds are also the real diamonds which means forever!😃Keep the romance and save money!👍 Do you need another lab grown diamond for your wedding?
Ha! It's a win-win situation for me. We opted for a lab diamond because one, it's more ethical, and two, I saved my fiancé more money. We recently upgraded my e-ring at JA and my fiancé only paid half of the price 😉
Diamond resale is only good when you up grade and some places require you to up grade by 2 times the amount you paid. Buy what you can afford, lab or natural!
I was a fan of lab grown diamonds until I found out they have Zero value. My friend got his wife a lab diamond it was beautiful but I know she was greatly disappointed when she was told by a jeweler it had no resale value because it is not a real diamond. My friend paid thousands of dollars for a ring that’ is worthless he could have just got a CZ and saved thousands. The fact the price and value of Laboratory diamonds continue to drop makes me believe the price of all lab diamonds should be in the low hundreds. People should buy what makes them happy but please be informed that you are not getting a deal with a lab diamond.
The difference is that usually people buy a ring within their budget. This means if your budget is 5.000$ you will buy a natural diamond or lab grown that is 5.000. It will just be bigger or with better specs if it is lab grown. At the end, if you want to resell it, you will have lost 2.000$ in the natural diamond scenario and 5.000$ in the lab grown, if it is true that it has no resale value.
That's wrong.. you need to compare specs to specs. That's how you compare... 5k diamond vs lab same specs probably 3k less. The loss is less for lab grown.
@@T-CainesZR1 no he has a good point. If you only have 2k to play with, your options are 1.) Buy a 2k natural diamond, or 2.) Buy a 2k lab grown diamond.
@@MrDb4894 Or you can buy the 2k natural diamond, or buy a $700 lab diamond with the exact same, if not better, specs. And you can put that $1300 towards the wedding or honeymoon.
Lab grown diamonds are probably made in the millions per day by now because I see it everywhere now. Personally, I don't mind to buy and wear them to get "the look," but I will only pay at my disposable income price, which is not much 😂. When you buy them, unless it's Chanel or Hermes fashion jewelry, there's practically no resale value except for the gold. I've been watching the vintage diamond market too and those vintage European cuts, old mine, and rose cuts are very competitive. So I'd like to think my engagement ring from 10 years ago would still be worth something in another 40 years. 😊
Lab-grown diamonds have no resale value, meaning no jeweler will buy it back. If you try to sell lab-grown diamonds to a jewelry store, a pawn shop or on EBay, you’ll get pennies on the dollar for it. Regardless, due to massive profit percentages and deceiving tactics of price comparisons to a real diamond value, it becomes easier to convince some uninformed buyers shopping for engagement rings or jewelry pieces to lead them choose a lab grown over a natural diamond. Often many jewelers indirectly encourage their clients by comparing prices with “real natural diamonds” but not disclosing the real resale value and long term investment factor of this emotional purchase. Its a time bomb waiting to explode!
I don't know any store in my area that will pay anything for a "used" lab diamond and there are over 20 jewelry stores not including pawn shops in a 15 mile radios.... good luck!
@@brettharter143 exactly. If you are buying diamonds with the intention of pawning it, then you're just not that financially way off and shouldnt be buying natural diamonds in the 1st place.
My jeweler now offers both and the lab grown diamonds he sells are just amazingly beautiful. As with all diamonds, cut is the most important. Look at clarity next. These factors are the same in both.
Yes! Both natural and lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds. They are hard, beautiful and brilliant!😃 You are so professional for the diamonds! 👍Are you a Jewelry Appraiser?

I would send you a picture, but I am not sure how to attach it here.
Your saying re-sell on a lab diamond you'll get nothing back, but a natural diamond you'll get about 60% back? so, lab has no value. sometimes people have unexpected issues come up in their lives and the diamond can be sold or pawned, pawn shops will give you nothing for the lab diamond except for the setting whereas the diamond will have a cash value.
the upgrade terms/fees cover the actual wholesale cost of the diamond your upgrading too... jewelry markups are insane and the 'worthless' diamond you are trading in will be resold
There is no such thing as a used diamond, mined or lab grown. There is only the owner’s ability to sell the diamond and what they initially paid. If they are savvy, then they won’t get burned. It’s foolish to think the average jabronie can buy at retail and sell at far below wholesale and not loose money.
If a NATURAL DIAMOND and a LAB GROWN DIAMOND have EXACTLY the same properties why would anyone choose the much more expensive NATURAL DIAMOND? I imagine the only contributing factor(s) would be the expertise in the CUT, everything else remaining the same.

Enough with the "laboratory made diamonds have no resale value" circus. Financial problems are one of the leading causes of divorce. Take the cost of a mined diamond, buy a nice laboratory made diamond similar in size and quality to a mined diamond for a fraction of the price, and invest the difference in a good mutual fund. Diamonds were and continue to be overpriced and the supply strictly controlled. Think about it. Its a piece of carbon that glitters because of tremendous pressure and heat being applied. That's the process in BOTH scenarios so what's the difference? Lack of control by DeBeers and others. That's it..
Regarding the lab grown diamond costing $2,030 , your assumption is that the natural diamond and lab grown diamond will be resold for the same price- your illustration of $4,746. The question is will jewelers actually bid the same price for a lab grown diamond and a natural diamond with the same specs? I honestly think they will bid lower for a lab grown diamond that natural diamond given the same characteristics. Comment on this please because correct me if I am wrong
Watch again, the assumption is that the $2030 lab grown diamond sells for zero, losing you $2030 but that's the maximum possible loss because that's all the stone cost to begin with. Loss from selling a natural diamond of same characteristics is more because it was so much more expensive to begin with.
It's different with natural diamonds. You see compare your own eyes. They do have yellow tin. Who will buy back lab create. It's continue create more and more. So it's no value in future
@@bambi3777 Natural diamonds come in all sorts of colors, that's why they are sold by the color grade among other properties. @@aleksandersuur9475 I watched again. You are right. It is based on the assumption that lab grown will be sold at zero.. Another thought though..if natural diamonds are presumed to be sold at 40-50% only of price it was bought for, then it would be great to have an open platform for pre-owned diamonds! That way we can purchase directly from an owner. There could be a fair trade wherein buying and selling prices wouldn't be too far from each other and would minimize losses for resale

For diamonds to increase in price, it means the value of the dollar is inflated. Diamonds are mined every year and it’s not deflationary, so as the value goes up in dollars, the value of the dollars decrease as a result. Your buying power is the same.
Why? Spend your $ on single sourced gems. Tanzanite Mined on only one place on entire planet. 2 mines are closed. Theres maybe 30 yrs production left. Once its gone its gone. Like Russian Alexandrite prices will sky rocket every yr. Muzo emeralds. Benitoite, red emerald, Turkish diaspore( AKA Zultanite) Montana sapphire, lightning ridge black opal, Mogok Ruby, Etc. You can buy a specialty cut colorless zircon( not cubic zirconia) its dbl refractive ( diamond is single rF) place that next to a diamond put a flashlight on them you'll see the dispersion diff. Save your $ on lab mtrl. Buy genuine. Just me.
Also a joke to judge elaborate when you could control everything and say oh it’s going to be this clarity of this color. Well, you could just make them all perfect and go from there, but the joke is they’re on a up-and-down scale as if it was naturally made and you have the ability to judge it because that’s the way it comes if you’re making it why are you making it with flaws I mean I don’t get it
Diamonds are made of carbon, which the world has plenty of. Get gold if you want resell value, which actually goes up. The reason Diamond's value doesn't go up is because it was never rare to begin with. If you want something unique and special, spend money on a hand made ring or something that is one of a kind. Diamonds are dime a dozen.
Sounds like you've got a great business idea. Very easy, they basically give away the tools to make lab diamonds, so get your hands on one, and then start selling lab diamonds slightly cheaper. When you're a billionaire, pls remember me
Natural Diamond is not the peoples choice of Today because of it's high Value! While Lab Grown Diamond is Very Cheap! And Besides Lab Grown Diamond and Natural Diamond is Identical! Am I Right! So Let's use our Common Sense!!!...
Diamonds are almost as common as freaking sand. Lab diamonds just exacerbated that. Lab diamonds are extraordinarily overpriced due to that stupid ass advertising campaign from the deBeers corporation long ago. So, if the question is, do lab diamonds, hold their value … that would be no. I would further say, do natural diamonds, hold their value, and based on my experience, the answer is also…no. Go take an engagement ring to a pawnshop or better yet a jeweler and see how much they offer you . Chances are they just want the melt value of the precious metal as they did me.
I’d be more inclined to believe this information if you weren’t clearly biased towards lab stones. You obviously have a vested interest in lab diamonds
'A thing of beauty is a joy forever.' The sentimental value to the owner can be priceless. But that 'thing of beauty' could have no intrinsic monetary or practical value. Diamonds are like that. First off, deBeers control the price of diamonds, keeping the price to the buyer as artificially high as possible. Those diamonds are usually mined and supplied at great cost to the long-term health of the miners, and sometimes those miners are killed in mining accidents long before they die from silicosis. Your life is priceless to you, even if you're a miner. You cannot really buy or replace your life with diamonds, or any other 'precious' object. You cannot eat a diamond; it has no nutritional value. Nor can it be used for warmth, shelter or even for transport. Its two main uses are either as ornaments or as cutting tools. They're also used occasionally as thermal conductors and for a few niche technological applications. Ultimately, they're only Carbon crystals, and Carbon is one of the commonest elements in the universe. Every plant and animal that we know of contains the element, as a necessary building block of life. So, would I buy a diamond, and if so, why would I buy one? Answers: I have bought diamonds. Once. They are in an engagement ring which I bought for my wife. I bought them because she liked the ring, without her even knowing that the small stones are diamonds, at the time she chose it. She wears that ring every day, and has done for many years. Her pleasure in wearing that small token of love is worth way more to me than any amount of money. She chooses never to wear any sparkling jewellery, even if it is sourced ethically. But if she wanted to, then I would be pleased to buy her the items, as gifts. Another key point: Neither of us are ever likely to try to sell that ring, so it was never bought as a financial investment. So long as your reason for purchasing any item, whether is fashioned by a craftsperson or by nature, is not financial, it is a sound investment. The method of manufacture is usually irrelevant, so long as no human or animal suffering is involved, and so long as there is no deliberate pollution of our truly precious environment. That ring contains artificial diamonds, but that's irrelevant. Its true value value to our marriage is priceless.

@@LabDiamondsReview but that's still an exception to the rule. there is no point in buying luxury items to sell them later

Perhaps the best deal is a "second hand" diamond from a pawn shop, plus you are repurposing the diamond.
Right and that old jewelry be real
Wasn't there someone in the diamond industry who said "Anyone who thinks a diamond is a good investment has clearly never tried to sell one."
Well said..!
Agreed
That's true. They should tell you but they don't and when you want to resell it you realize they won't pay what you paid for
I hope to be able to get a right-hand diamond ring one day. Lab grown only!

Lab-grown diamonds have no resale value, meaning no jeweler will buy it back. If you try to sell
lab-grown diamonds to a jewelry store, a pawn shop or on EBay, you’ll get pennies on the dollar for
it. Regardless, due to massive profit percentages and deceiving tactics of price comparisons to a real
diamond value, it becomes easier to convince some uninformed buyers shopping for engagement rings or jewelry pieces to lead them choose a lab grown over a natural diamond. Often many jewelers indirectly encourage their clients by comparing prices with “real natural diamonds” but not disclosing the real resale value and long term investment factor of this emotional purchase. Its a time bomb waiting to explode!

Another thought though..if natural diamonds are presumed to be sold at 40-50% only of price it was bought for, then it would be great to have an open platform for pre-owned diamonds! That way we can purchase directly from an owner. There could be a fair trade wherein buying and selling prices wouldn't be too far from each other and would minimize losses for resale

lab rown = 0 loss = 400
you lost more in natural, but what if, you buy now 1 carat and resell it when it double the price.
natural = 2000 double is 4000
lab grown = 400 double = 0
resell when the value gain 100%
natural = 2400 loss = 1600
lab grown = 0 loss = 400
based on the new resale value
natural gain = 400
lab grown gain = 0
now which is practical???
For diamonds to increase in price, it means the value of the dollar is inflated. Diamonds are mined every year and it’s not deflationary, so as the value goes up in dollars, the value of the dollars decrease as a result. Your buying power is the same.

Correct!! Using lab grown , moisannite, etc.. save mother earth from mining natural diamond. And its better than using fake , glass,.. 🤣
I’d be more inclined to believe this information if you weren’t clearly biased towards lab stones. You obviously have a vested interest in lab diamonds
There's a lot of good reasons to be biased toward lab stones.
DeBeers marketing team can help you with your bias toward natural stones
so in conclusion, you get screwed either way.....
This argument is based purely on snobbery. If younwant to buy to profit later buy gold
