Very cool little pen. I just received my very first fountain pens last night! I ordered a TWSBI VAC MINI and an H.D. Black Forest Carbon fiber. I pretty sure you reviewed both of these pens. After trying both pens with EF nibs, I am wondering what took me so long to discover fountain pens. Thank you for your comprehensive reviews!!!
Hi DB!: Isn't it fascinating what equipment you can get and start up your own manufacturing!! That is a VERY cool little pocket pen! Thanks for sharing!
What a wonderful pen. Something truly different. Deserves to be super successful and short international cartridges are a bonus. Thanks for a great video
I REALLY wish you could chose to buy the excess packaging or not. So those of us who toss it immediately could save a few bucks and generate a little less trash.
that. is. beautiful. i was just testing a diamine ink in that two-tone shade, disappointingly it writes deep aubergine rather than the vibrant mauve/electric blue it appears in the bottle. Candy Cane pen 💙💜
I agree that titanium is the nicest metal for a pen. This is a great looking pen. The nib is fabulous. What point is on it? I would go for the F1 but the weight is a bit high for my taste. Great review.
Nice nib performance. Pen design is too busy for me, although I can appreciate the workmanship intensity. In general I stay away from skinny grip sections.
Definitely lots going on with this one but it really grabs my attention because right away I think "how did he do this!" I have some fun anodizing I'm doing soon to spice things up with some other pens
@Doodlebud had a question is it worth buying a parker 51 aromatic one with a few dings in the grip at 80 USD or 110 cad ? I don't mind the dings I can live with that, but the issue comes with when I might have to purge the collection and then the resale value might be very low. What would be your suggestion
Thats a tricky one for me to make a recommendation. Sounds like you really want a 51 but maybe just in better condition? If thats the case just take your time and keep looking. I find Pen Swap on reddit is a great place for finds
Another nice review DB, but there was one thing disappointing for me. I'm very detailed oriented, and it was disappointing not seeing you separate the section from the body and it looked like you were so close to doing that! 😂 One might think they are all the same, but they would be mistaken. I've found that out by researching replacing the nib/feed in a Majohn X1!!! Maybe you could remember to do that for the cartridge/converter pens you review in the future.
@@Doodlebud When I checked out the links and his web presence, I was so impressed with his work that I got in contact with him (Francesco) right away, and ordered a pen from him, and it should arrived in the next few days. For mine, I kept it to a simple entropic anodizing treatment. The beauty of it was the pictures he sent to confirm what I wanted.
1. Très cool; glad I can't afford it. 2. Great to see some r&d in the cartridge space. Bigger cartridges, yay! 3. Regarding titanium - I prefer sterling silver. Or will as soon as I save up enough for a Pilot Silvern Grid.
Ichiro, I’ve always loved sterling silver in pens, even if it’s just the cap that is sterling. I own several sterling silver pens. I can attest that the Pilot Silvern is a superb pen, all round. I own the Silvern Tsumugi with an M nib. It won’t ever leave my collection. Good luck getting the Silvern this year.
Thanks for explaining your writing samples. I like them so much more than the stock "quick brown fox." Gotta ask, though, why "mango chutney" every time? Do like this pen, but I suspect only folks who share your enthusiasm for laser engraving will be willing to pay the asking price. While I like it, I don't like it that much. I got my first Otto Hutt pen for Christmas from my much better half. It is the Design 5. I suggested it to her because it is available for around $100, is a pocket pen and has a touch screen stylus as the cap finial. I feared it might be a gimmick, but it has proven a great tool. And the pen functions wonderfully well as a pocket pen. The nib is as outstanding as I'd been lead to believe an Otto Hutt nob would be. Given your fondness for pocket pens, you might like it, I think.
@@Doodlebud Thanks. That 'splains it. I'll give it a try with my next purchase-an Asvine P20, which I bought in part because you seem to like Asvine pens. Now, any thoughts on the Otto Hutt Design 5?
You mention that the pen cannot take a Kaweco mini-converter. Would it be an option to have a converter with a push-bar and sack (like the old ones from Parker)? I guess the capacity would not be great though.
The squeeze ones aren't too great. Also it will sit pretty deep in the pen so when you pull it out you'll most likely rip the sac from the collar. I tired that on a different pocket pen and that happened
I like the way that when you post the cap, it doesn’t quite meet the end f the barrel. That way the pattern either lines up or you imagine it would if the cap screwed on all the way to meet the barrel. Minor detail but if the two met, it would be almost impossible to ensure that everything lined up perfectly. Maybe they just post the cap before doing the laser engraving?...
The tricky part is to allign and have some play due to the oring. Can't put the oring while lasering as it would be fried there. The second problem is that with the deep engrave lens I can't fit the barrel and cap posted inside the work area.
Got to admit, I really enjoy your reviews, normally, silently from the sidelines however I have an issue (well, if you listen to my ex-wife I have many). I think there is something questionable about reviewing and especially recommending, pens sent free for review. I used to be the head of a review team of a large website and faced the same issue. Being sent for review an expensive item such as this pen, removes an important consideration from the equation. When we evaluate a high-cost item it is important to include the thought that some people may have to work months or even years to feel comfortable to afford such items. It is a factor related to how expensive it is and the disposable income of individual. If this was related to motor vehicles or watches, etc we would also include the resale value or depreciation. If you as a reviewer rate a pen very highly which you received gratis for a review then it will automatically have a lesser value than one you had to save and wait for. It is a very similar situation as with those retailers who review only the pens they sell. An objective comparison can't be made compared to the individual reviewer. There are reviewers who rate limited edition Montblanc editions which cost tens of thousands but the market for such items is incredibly limited and as such value for money should not be included. I'm not pretending to have a solution to this eternal problem of reviews but maybe the option becomes to review without recommendation or rating? Keep up the great work.
@Doodlebud yeah, I heard but figured it was a steep climb once you start adding Lazer etching and anodizing etc. 250-350 is exactly what I was thinking. Definitely going to look him up.
When you talked about the three R’s, reduce, reuse, and recycle, it always brings me back to an old Rockos modern life episode where the whole episode is about those three r’s; and they sing a song about reduce, reuse, and recycling. “R-E-C-Y-C-L-E, recycle-- C-O-N-S-E-R-V-E, conserve; don’t you P-O-L-L-U-T-E, polite the river, sky, or sea, or else your gonna get what you deserve!” Here’s the song! th-cam.com/video/namndS6fvEs/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared

Hope my videos help you out
I got my first fountain pen a few weeks ago and so I am thrilled to see that there’s someone making beautiful pens right here from the Philippines!
Hope you're enjoying your first pen 🖋️👍
There's a few fully in house makers in the Philippines. Check out Kasama and Desara.
A visually stunning pen! Atelier F and Kasama are helping to put the Philippines on the world pen map!
It's just beautiful where fountain pens are getting. Love your videos and I wish you the best!
Thank you so much
Hi DB!: Isn't it fascinating what equipment you can get and start up your own manufacturing!! That is a VERY cool little pocket pen! Thanks for sharing!
I like how the engraved logo finial looks sort of like an ink splat. He’s go a super industrial laser to engrave that deep!
Writes great and that logo at the end of the cap has some serious depth to it!
That nib has absolutely wonderful lines and variation!!
Absolutely stunning! I'm going to have to look into them at a future date. Thanks for sharing!
Lots of work into that pocket pen!! Looks great
So much work!
He's a really nice guy from all my interactions with him haha. Probably at the top of my to buy list once the Manila Pen Show finishes.
That looks terrific and clearly a lot of work. Very nice overview.
Not to be crass, but he doesn't have base prices that I could see on his website. What would the tricked out version you have cost?
I mentioned in the review they range from $250-$300. I'm not 100% sure on the exact price for this one. They are made to order
I ordered one with a custom design for 275€
What a wonderful pen. Something truly different. Deserves to be super successful and short international cartridges are a bonus. Thanks for a great video
Couldn't agree more!
Such a unique piece! Thoroughly described DB, as usually. I am a bit conflicted about the amount of packaging used by some brands though.
I REALLY wish you could chose to buy the excess packaging or not. So those of us who toss it immediately could save a few bucks and generate a little less trash.
Fantastic pen. I like everything about it. So happy to have seen this. I might even get one myself. 🙂
I love the work he's doing
Dang! Someone else to take my money! 😂 Seriously, thanks for bringing this to our attention, DB.
I'm super glad he reached out to me to share his work with everyone!

Its not impossible to do but it is tricky. You'd have to line up the pattern with the cap over the nib and posted

Cool pen but is it a decent value? I mean, if this thing costs $600 😮 wtf. But I'd definitely pay $200 for it.
It doesn't cost $600. I mentioned in the video it depends on the anodize & laser work but will be in the $250-$300 range
