I can’t believe you haven’t found the magic of drawing with a ballpoint pen! It is one of the most amazing tools to draw with. Not to mention all the possibilities the ballpoint pen holds. It has become a bit of a signature medium for me. Love using it!
I do respect and appreciate ballpoint pen art. There’s some amazing work out there by super talented artists. As a left handed person, I do smudge my lines a lot with ballpoint pens this absolutely plagued all attempts at art I made in high school, and I was actually really insecure about it for a while. Fountain pens were a solution for me. But I might try a ballpoint pen again. I have two videos on the Karas Bolt V2 and the Fisher Space pen on this channel. Didn’t care for the Space Pen, but it did enjoy the Bolt.
@@stepheninks well, that’s a nice thing to know. Believe it or not, BIC pens are among my top favorite to use. Recently I’ve discovered some awesome Japanese pens that have a super fine tip, which makes me happy to use when I want extremely fine details and smooth value transitions. I once had a student who was inspired by my ballpoint pen drawings who practiced her mark making with a ballpoint pen an entire summer. When she returned in the fall I couldn’t believe what she was able to achieve with the pen. Her marks were so fine you couldn’t tell if her work was made with a pen or an airbrush. Absolute perfection! I will check out your mentioned videos.
Love those pens, certainly a top on my list of cheap but useful fountain pen.

I have one. It's thin, like a regular ballpoint pen, and I love it. It's cheap, but the look and feel are great.
This one was an unexpected win for me. Great writer and so unique!

Thanks! She’s already made, like 8 different complicated things (including a birthday cake for me!) so I think she’ll survive. Now I’ve just got to stop myself from saying the exact same thing every time I sit down to make a video or draw!
Update on my last post, I got my set of 3 last month and have been happily using them. I have been using the medium fine nib as my daily driver this week and I love it. Thanks for the review.

I got the black version and I also think it's amazing, specifically if you like drawing very little things, just like they are on a horizon. The nib is the same like in Jinhao 80, and both are great pens for artistic purposes.
It fits very nicely in the spine of a sketchbook for compact travel as well.
I have a Pilot Cavalier. It’s a very thin pen as well but more expensive. When transitioning from a gel and rollerball I sought out thin pens because it’s what my hand was used to but I’ve explored thicker pens since, TWSBI being my go-to right now. My Jinhao 82 took some effort to get working but has been consistent since and for about $3 it’s hard to complain.
Cheaper pens are hard to complain about. But I’ve found that even some more expensive ones still need a little setup sometimes.
I have it. I bought it for the converter to fit the Shaffer tar gas slim. But the targa slim is even smaller thinner. I like using it a lot. There is the black matte finish.
I really like this one too!
The nib reminds me of one of my favorite pens, the Pilot Varcity. They sell for about the same price, but are considered disposable pens. (Although you can use a pair of pliers to take off the nib and feed and eyedroper fill them, according to some TH-camrs.) I've been giving the Varcity pens to my older grandkids. Maybe I will switch to these. With three pens I could fill them with blue, black and brown inks so they can enjoy a variety of ink colors.
I think I owned a Varsity once in High school before I knew what a fountain pen was.. it unfortunately did end up getting thrown out when I used up the ink, but I remember it being smooth. I should revisit that one in a future video.
It looks like a pen you could let people write with when they ask if they can try it. $3.33 is not a lot to lose if someone bends the nib or otherwise damages the pen, not to mention if you just happen to lose it as well. I definitely need some pens I don't particularly love, to use out of the house every day and this looks like it might be that pen. Hope your Holidays are Happy and bright. Yeah, that would be a great use case for this one. I actually found this to be the first of the super cheap pens that I’ve really liked. Tried the Jinhao Shark a few years back, but it just wasn’t quite good enough to be an enjoyable experience. Thanks for the kind words, and hope you have a happy holiday as well!
I've been using the Parker Vector Metallix since march, 2023. Just order the Jinhao 65 today and get it at Rs. 180 ($2.2).. Excited to give it a try

It's something that you probably would not expect from really cheap fountain pen.
I have been using two (sliver and matte black) for a few months and kept all my Faber-Castell and Lamy in the box.
A given that it's not really at par in the looks segment with those marks but at the price you're paying, you would not regret it at all.
I agree. If you just want a good pen, no hype, this is a great model to look at.

Breaks my heart how I'm starting to get tired of the Safari and how much Lamys cost.
I'm no snob but I really prefer to use brand on brand products. How do Z50s fit on these?
It took me a while to respond to this message, because I kept forgetting to test that. So, basically, the converter fits perfectly… until you try to put the body on, and then those little plastic bumps get in the way. On the flip side, it seems like the converter for this pen would comfortably fit in a Lamy pen.

Even more similar to Lamy ST, the clip and metal finish are almost identical.
A thin, metal pen. That hurts my hand just looking at it.

Hasn’t leaked at all since I’ve gotten it. It doesn’t seem any more or less flimsy than other pens in this price range.
anything made by platinum falls into the friends category for me , they work well but I'm not a fan of the nibs at all .
I like Platinum nibs for their functionality, but I totally get what you’re saying.
There are many thinner fountain pens around, like Cross Classic Slim.
I have heard of this pen. Can you confirm it is thinner? I might want to see that one for myself.
@ninks It is 0.8cm diameter in chrome colorway. Also there is Pilot Birdie fountain pen at 0.8cm too.
