In my Homebrew, I have a civilization known as The Everlasting Empire; it's made of Frog/Toad like humanoids (small/medium) and Myconids, who all make their homes in the Sunshroom forests of the Grand Delta. With Ubtao gone, the demons who have been hunted and impeded for millennia are seeking to spread their darkness on this unspoilt continent. I had no idea this demon lord even existed, and now my head is swimming! As always, Thanks AJ!
You need to look into the writings of Clark Ashton Smith. This is the guy who made this character. BTW, in the stories he wrote, he originally looked like a giant sitting frog, but covered in fur, and with pointy elf ears. People who have played Call of Cthulhu or read a fair amount of Lovecraftian Mythos would be familiar with him.
Wow! I have either never heard of this guy, or don't recall his being listed in earlier editions monster manuals. And since dragons, devils, and demons are my favorite D&D monsters, I'd be suprised if I just forgot about it. It's possible though! And for the 10,000th time now, thanks for being awesome AJ!

the pictures of nurgle are a perfect fit for Tsathogga and considering how the multiverse in dnd works and how the warp in 40k work its not hard to think that they could very well be the same being
I can see the Norrathian Froglocks calling a raid on this foul creature in the name if Mithanial Marr! (Sorry just the way it looks reminds me of the PC race from EQ and EQ2)
Great, now I just imagine him rallying his followers to steal flags even if it requires triangulating the flight paths of dragons and navigating by the constellations just to laugh at people. And also trying to get fountains/canals closed due to Sewer Plague. Actually this sounds amazing, I'm going to need to write this down.
I used this guy, well a version of this guy in a campaign that was set in a era when many terrible plagues had began, or long ago spread across the setting even had altered an existing idea from the Red steel/Savage Coast setting called the Red curse as a plague in the areas. Largely in the setting I had used purity having become of extremely high importance to the point those that had contracted any of the illnesses, or were seen as unclean were hunted actually for their corruption that they had contracted. The Red curse like illness/plague I had adapted made it that at first the creature's skin would redden to an almost a rust like color at first after afew days of exposure, before they would begin to have mutations began develop after some weeks of being exposed (these could be beneficial or not so beneficial), but while also the infected would have a chance to develop a magic like ability as well very rarely. There was a metal called cinnabryl that was very rare, and would only last for afew days to a afew weeks based the size of the item it was crafted into. This alone gave the setting so much veriety, since each encounter you did a check for if any of the monster's/animals would have a contracted the plagues (and mutations), before than rolling a die based on the number of monsters (I used a random integer on a calculator for this.) to determine how many, with the players always worried they could catch the illnesses. Though out many adventurers that group would encounter these Plague-doctor like people that were apart of a massive guild seeking to understand, research, and cure the many illnesses that plagued the setting. These dressed like a typical Victorian-era plague-doctor with a long trench coat as well as gloves that were tied off inside the sleeves to seal off them off from the outside, a massive bird-like mask that had googles on it as well as a long nose inside which were herbs, and long boots that were similarly to the gloves were tied off under the long pants they would wear. While also another group dedicated to this being would masquerade as these plague-doctors using their style of attire to hide their truly putrid appearance, while spreading the many plagues of the world, or those passed onto them by their lord or his children.
You would think a minor splinter group of Kuo Toans would worship Tsathogga, considering, they're also ambhibian. But I guess Dagon and Bilbdoolpoolp have a stranglehold of the Kuo Toans.
Great video, AJ! I bet Tsathogga and Zuggtmoy would get along swimmingly... maybe even churn out some of the most vile offspring the multiverse has ever seen. 🤢
AJ, your videos have turned my previously mundane and frustrating hour long daily commutes into one of my favorite times of day. I am a huge D&D fan but never have time to learn more about the lore due to work/school. Your accessible and informative, detailed content has put an imaginative grin on my face I can't remember having since my childhood friends disbanded our party when we each moved to different cities. I was ecstatic to see that your videos are so recently published! Makes me feel as though the D&D community is still alive and kicking! You are a wonderful presenter of this sort of lore. I wish you the best and hope you keep making these videos! I'll be listening on my long car rides. P.S. you should consider making videos on planes or better yet some of the more popular campeign settings (Underdark, Dark Sun, Eberron, etc.). Let me know what you think of this idea/like this comment if you would enjoy these videos!
Cult idea: A colony of lepers (or some other disease) banished to a swamp, while there one of their number made a pact to Tsathogga for power and relief. He then brings the colony as well as the swamps amphibian natives. It's only a matter of time before the cult plots to take vengeance on those who banished them.
Actually never heard of this one I've heard of a lot (I had thought all of them) when it comes to the demon Lord's. Guess not I love learning new things. Thank you for this video :)
Hey AJ would love to see a video on Kurtulmak, god of Kobolds. I want to start a campaign with a heavy kobold presence and it would be interesting to get a story line together that the kobolds have some kind of plan to free their deity.
I just can't get enough of these amazing videos! I love your content man. I'm not sure about how much lore there is on them, but I feel like Wood Woads are a kind of weird and cool creature, and I was wonderinf if you could make a video on them if you have spare time? I hope you have a great Easter!
If you ever play a demon lord campaign. Tsathogga is a good choice. Zuggotmoy is next best because of what they lack in resources they make up for in sheer resilience.
Imagine if one of his cultists takes this role of a chef, and sneaks the demon lord’s eggs into each one of his meals. After a while, gigantic, frog-like creatures start terrorising the city, and the PC’s have to follow the trail back to where it began. “Waiter, there’s a fly in my soup!” *waiter’s tongue lashes out and gobbles it up* “Very sorry, sir, but in my humble opinion it only added to the flavour”

Very similar, but not the same, Tsothogga is a demon, first and foremost, and has become a something of a deity largely by accident, he was spawned by the queen of chaos from the Sibriex flesh shapers in the before time, he rampaged across the prime worlds with the rest of the demon host, but, he has since moved into a nice comfortable pit of horror at the foul end of the river styx. Ramenos is a god of the Bullywugs who has moved into the Abyss, possibly snoring away snuggly in the spot that Tsothogga left behind? The important difference between the two is that Tsothogga doesn't sleep, not ever, he is a demon, and he wants to destroy everything. this is not the case with Ramenos, he simply wants to eat and sleep forever, he is a manifestation of the struggling Bullywugs dream of a life of overindulgence. He is content to remain in the slumbering realm of Smaragd on the 74th layer of the Abyss, also, I think he might, if actually roused back to full awareness, quite a bit more powerful than Tsothogga.

For some insight into how the Duegar view the Derro, see the video I did on them (for the time being), I have Derro on my list, and will be making a vid on them at some point :)
probably should have said funny not weird tbh, changed what i mean fair bit saying sorry for using 40k art, i just always find it funny to imagine the few people who feels better after hearing it. thinking that you using the art could actually bother someone and they get annoyed thinking you had no right to use that art. like laughing at 1st world problems i guess i get the sorry isnt serious in the vid, more just i happened to think about it hearing it on this particular video.
Yes, but Tsathoggua was no mere frog, but a pot-bellied creature covered in fur with a frog-like face, looking like a strange, sleepy blend of toad, bat and sloth. This pure frog feels like a downgrade on the "weird" factor.
Yeah I agree with you there. I could see these worshipers working in any setting outside of maybe a really primitive type setting. Like I have my own version of his worshipers (with a slightly more Nurgle side) in a blighted setting that shifts from a Gothic Victorian styled within the semi-large cities to a medieval like style in the smaller cities an towns.
The hillz yeah, he’s in a few different fiction universes (much like Nyarlathotep) like Marvel and Pathfinder. Each have there own interpretation of him but yeah in Lovecrafts work, his description as being more bat and toad like.
Now this explains an alternate Prime Material Plane paladin who HATED Tsathogga. His prime material plane, the "humans" were amphibians. The DM named that NPC ally "Frogger." I was a player. The mission was he helped us to complete our mission, we helped him to get back to his plane. Now I see why those alternate primes (amphibians as the "humans") hate Tsathogga, I thought the guy DM'ing made the demon up. That "evil god" had nothing to do with our time with Frogger and I thought it only was that alternative prime material thing. Dang... I am SO outdated. And yes, Frogger was basically a frogman paladin. I guess Curse of the Azure Bonds' Dragonbait inspired him. To be fair, I think he completely ripped Dragonbait off.
I didn't notice the alt spelling so I was hoping this was going to be about Clark Ashton Smith's Tsathoggua and how to bring him into your D&D campaign, instead of Frog God Games's cruddy lame reuse of the name and toad elements to make Off-Brand Nurgle.
In the module hidden shrine of Tamoachan, there is a bloated bat god. What is his name? Tsathoggua? Is this perhaps a related entity?😁😁oh and nice live stream finally got to see it live but had to watch on the tablet.laptop battery croaked.I would have loved to. Comment on several of the subjects covered.
Where do you find the stats for your Lore videos? Do you extrapolate them from various sources to represent what you think best fits it? The extent of your research is impressive. Thanks for the videos, very entertaining. Would love to get a hold of these 5e stats.

Thank you AJ for all the hard work you put in your channel. I prefer the Cthulu sounding words being said like in Ephemeral Rifts' channel. Something about that watery sound you make grates the ears and I stop watching. Ephemeral Rift opts for a more clicky sound that is very comfortable to listen to. I just think you should at least try to say the words in your normal pleasant voice. Besides the Cthulu words shouldn't sounds like they are coming from under water unless you are literally submerged. Great channel. Just thought I would offer some advice. I really world like to watch your channel again so please think about it.
AJ Pickett I nevermind your pronunciation. Your information is good and it's nice to see a lot of the books I own being put in a easy listening format. I have been listening for 2 or 3 years and never had a problem with it. Easy listening
This is awesome AJ!
Absolute pleasure to make it for you Keith :)
Papa Nurgle is pleased with you spreading the word of his joy. Come friend, let me give you *cougcoughcoughcough wheeeeze* a gift.
This guy was clearly based on Clark Ashton Smith's "Tsathoggua." You should do videos on the lovecraftian deities in D&D.
I think HP named Tsothaggua in a few of his own stories as well

Another Great Old One turned demon. I wonder if there is a story behind that?
There is, indeed. Watch his video on the Obyrith. The whole history is in there

It's actually from Clark Ashton Smith's Hyperborean stories.

Nope. Tsogga is inspired by the book called "The Relic". They made it into a movie too. He was Tsogga there.
Does he have anything to do with the Abyssal bullwug deity, Ramenos? They're almost identical.

Tsathoggua was a Deity made by Lovecraft's Friend, Clark Ashton Smith. That's why. And yes, he does appear in modern Call of Cthulhu games.
So the great old one of the deep has become a demon lord?

That "evil god" had nothing to do with our time with Frogger and I thought it only was that alternative prime material thing. Dang... I am SO outdated. And yes, Frogger was basically a frogman paladin. I guess Curse of the Azure Bonds' Dragonbait inspired him. To be fair, I think he completely ripped Dragonbait off.
A frog man paladin...sounds someone had a favorite character from Crono Trigger. Was he a noble soul who spoke in an excessively archaic way?
Also chrono trigger
@@jacobfreeman5444 Took me a while to read this. Um, yeah. That sounds a lot like Frogger.
I didn't notice the alt spelling so I was hoping this was going to be about Clark Ashton Smith's Tsathoggua and how to bring him into your D&D campaign, instead of Frog God Games's cruddy lame reuse of the name and toad elements to make Off-Brand Nurgle.
Hmmm, that can be arranged.
Where can I read about some of the grotesque stuff that goes on with this demon lord? Love the vids as always
Basically battletoads. XD
(But AJ, there's more Lovecraftian mythos creatures on d &d that u haven't made a video yet mate?)
Quite a few. I have made a Shoggoth video :)
I shouldn't have heard it while eating...

Yoooooo- giant demon frogs? metalAF
Where do you find the stats for your Lore videos? Do you extrapolate them from various sources to represent what you think best fits it? The extent of your research is impressive. Thanks for the videos, very entertaining. Would love to get a hold of these 5e stats.
I wanna know the rituals!
Me too! I am sure one of my evil Elf characters practices them!
do a shadow giant
Jubilex next?
challenge rating of 30?? unless I'm completely wrong, isn't that more powerful than Asmodeus, Demogorgon, Orcus, etc?
S Steel
Not they’re normal forms. Even the Asmodeus avatar is Cr 31, meanwhile the demon lords true forms has always been a higher Cr
It is.
This is why I avoid third party stuff (Tsathogga is a "creation" (or rather a perversion of a Clark Ashton Smith creation) of Frog God Games).
Wait.....isn't this guy a renamed great old one
Sanginius on vacation

Thank you AJ for all the hard work you put in your channel. I prefer the Cthulu sounding words being said like in Ephemeral Rifts' channel. Something about that watery sound you make grates the ears and I stop watching. Ephemeral Rift opts for a more clicky sound that is very comfortable to listen to. I just think you should at least try to say the words in your normal pleasant voice. Besides the Cthulu words shouldn't sounds like they are coming from under water unless you are literally submerged. Great channel. Just thought I would offer some advice. I really world like to watch your channel again so please think about it.
You are comparing me to an ASMR channel? Come on man, he is a sound expert :(
AJ Pickett I nevermind your pronunciation. Your information is good and it's nice to see a lot of the books I own being put in a easy listening format. I have been listening for 2 or 3 years and never had a problem with it. Easy listening
Thanks Unicorn2040, the irony is, I could probably get 100x the views if I made ASMR videos, but frankly, I find them a little creepy.
