- In Japan, the term takumi is used to describe a master craftsman who has perfected his skills over years of painstaking work and dedication. It is reserved for those who are at the very top of their profession. At Nissan's expansive engine factory in Yokohama, four men have been designated as takumi. They are the sole assemblers of the engines that power one of the most heralded sports cars in automotive history.
The four takumi of Nissan's Yokohama plant are Takumi Kurosawa, Tsunemi Ooyama, Izumi Shioya and Nobumitsu Gozu. Collectively, they share over 100 years of exceptional work in their chosen field. These engine craftsmen are responsible for hand-building every awe-inspiring 545-horsepower twin-turbocharged V-6 engines found beneath the hood of the Nissan GT-R, production vehicles and the racecars alike. Each engine is assembled with care and precision by one of these four individuals.
Once an engine is completed, the takumi craftsman proudly mounts a plaque bearing his name upon the completed masterpiece, serving as a timeless reminder of the high level of craftsmanship and expertise that went into each work.

@@JCtherocks A german TH-camr "JP Performance" was able to met a takumi and saw how he build his engine in the factory
I give myself 5-7 years until I have one. Getting a GT-R is my goal and I am working on realizing my dream for 2 1/2 years already. It is my driving force for getting a good and hard to earn degree. If anyone reads my comment in 7 years. Ask me if I fulfilled my dream.
So is valve lash set by changing a disc on the cam bucket, changing a disc under the cam bucket, or using cam buckets with different thicknesses?
Nissan uses bucket shims to set valve lash each bucket shim is machined perfectly to a specific thickness the only down side is if the bucket shim clearance is off the camshaft need to be removed hope this helps

Each bucket is machined to a specific thickness and marked underneath the bucket. The reason they check after the engine is assembled on the GTR is because the cylinder head bolts distort the heads and alter the clearance. A range of bucket sizes offered by Nissan allows the installer to achieve the target clearance after the heads are installed. This is a tedious but critical process

they are dry fitting everything. why?
I know this is old.
They lubed the cams so I'm guessing that's one of the parts they can't sufficiently lube by pressurizing the oil system on the Dyno before it's first start. It's got piston squirters so it could probably self lube the cylinders.

the engine is great, but its weight surprises - over 240 kg
twin turbo, dohc, timing chain, has to have a decent amount of cylinder material to handle the abuse and not vibrate etc
