    It's not poorly designed. It's designed exactly the way it was intended to be...for the owner to prefer taking it to the dealership to spend four hundred bucks for a job that should cost you only the hundred bucks or so for the battery because a battery swap is normally one of the easiest repairs you can do on your car.

    • @andreahughes6288
      @andreahughes6288 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It's still poorly designed but it's poorly designed on purpose just for the reasons you stated.

    I've never been a car guy, I'm a computer guy, so when I bought my 2008 sebring just a couple years ago I didn't know anything about all the "special" placements of parts rofl. Hi Eric, what do mechanics do to prevent triggering car alarms when they change tires and reconnect a car battery? Why didn't the alarm go off when you reconnect it? If a car is missing a valet switch to disarm the alarm (or not one that is visible or easily accessible), what would you do to prevent tripping the car alarm while serving such car? Thanks.

    Well done, well I'm guilty of taking off the wrong batt terminal as well, hope I don't get yelled at :) As for the battery placement I guess I'm going to be the only one that likes the design. I can see how it's safer to install going down the assembly line, have seen my share of battery's blown up on an install. What I like the best is in the event of a collision there is no battery acid entering the cabin. Chrysler vehicles only last for 2 or 3 battery changes at the most anyway LOL.

    • @SouthMainAuto
      @SouthMainAuto  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steve, Steve, Steve, where do I begin. First of all never say you unhook the positive battery first on YT. People will hate you forever. Second, leave it up to a guy from the motors to like the design ( from an assembly stand point that is ) haha and third you are 100% correct. It will never live to see a 4th battery... 3rd maybe but never a 4th. The 4th one will require a few bungee cords and maybe a ratchet strap.

      David Anthony Clark well not everyone on here is a troll. that was a legit question. I was dicking with my battery that day, (which is why I was watching this video). I really wanted to know. because, according to you, I did it backwards.

      Ok man ... my bad.

    • @USAMADE69
      @USAMADE69 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      UNHOOKING THE NEGATIVE FIRST ... eliminates any chance from the battery terminals sparking, because if you unhook the "positive first" and the negative is hooked up and your wrench accidently touches anything metal while loosening the positive it could cause the terminal to spark.

    This reminds me of an 2002 Concorde I worked on. The battery was on the passenger side and the fender well panel was held on mostly with zip ties so I guess it had been through several batteries during its useful life. How often do you think those batteries have their water level checked and added when they get low?

  • @lapalmeal
    @lapalmeal 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    There is a set of connectors for jump starts. Under the hood& above left fender well. Next to fuse box, Has a plastic cover and is clearly labeled.
    If your battery is dead, you can not open your trunk to get the tools you might need. Trunk opens by electric switch & has no lock cylinder on the outside.
    You best bet is call AAA if battery needs replacing.

    Just spent the friggin morning replacing my CAR BATTERY! 😤 ....lol... WTF were Chrysler “engineers” thinking? Not to mention all the electrical problems I’m just now learning about that come with this car... Def shoulda researched better before buying this way more of a project beast than I thought lol. Oh well
    Thank you for posting tho. Really appreciate it... just irritated w/Chrysler at moment needed to vent a bit😂😎. Peace.

    "You think the engineer is still laughing about this one?" *LOL!* Surprised you also didn't say that for the Stratus which had the battery in the same place. Stupidest place to put a battery.

    • @SteelOfLegend
      @SteelOfLegend 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm even laughing about it. I think a big reason why they did that is so they had to take their cars into the shops to replace the battery. The layout under the hood on these things is absolutely horrible.

    Could you tell me how long it takes you to do this job? To me it looks like it should be a max of about 1/2 an hour with all the nuts and connectors etc to worry about. The local stealership charged my mother for 1.5 hours of labor to do this job. Even with all the extra work you had to do compared to a "normal" car, I can't see where it would take anywhere close to the amount of time they charged for.

    This is the dumbest design I have ever seen. I have a Sebring, the battery is dead. If it had been put in the engine compartment like normal vehicles, I could have done the replacement myself. Maybe this is the reason that my mechanic hasn't called me back to replace my battery. CRAP. Thanks for the video, it was exactly what I needed to know.
