If there is one guitarist able to imitate AH so well it is definitely Fredrik Thordendal. The drums are programmed with the "drum kit from hell".

@1 1 How many guitarists copy the styles of other guitarists? As many as there are grains of sand on each beach on earth. How many guitarists copy the style of Holdsworth? It is but a mere few of those grains.

Wish Frederik would do more Allan Holdsworth influenced solos like this with Meshuggah. The solo on Bleed comes close but nothing like the gorgeous solos he does in his solo work or with 'Special Defects'. Amazing how versatile he is in playing this style versus the djent style he pioneered in the 'Chaosphere' days with Meshuggah...

@@westong6819 Two different things really. I don't mind if they're combined, but modern metal and jazz fusion exist in two different, in either case satisfying spheres. Fredrik treats them as such anyway. It's rare that Meshuggah let their sound go in _this_ direction. That's not to say they aren't musically equal. You can't argue against Meshuggah being original and creative. But really don't think it matters when compared to Fredrik's (or their interim Per's) more jazzy stuff. At least I much prefer that these days.

Frederik is totally amazing. Thing is, it's actually impossible to *sound* like Allan. Literally. His playing technique and overall mastery of the instrument is otherworldly. And his legato *un-guitar sound* is, by definition, *spellbinding*. Also, his ultra-sensitive micro variations of left hand string vibrato, subtle string bending and completely unique whammy bar applications add up to making it scientifically impossible to emulate AH.

I heard this track before I ever got into Allan, and I loved it. From my perspective it was almost as if Allan's style was the odd one out. But these days, and for the past several years, Allan has been my greatest relief in the world of music. And I attribute that in part to Fredrik. Now when I listen to this track again for the first time in half a decade, I hear how different Fredrik really is. He has a mixture of lots of different styles, unlike Allan who is only himself alike. It's an unfair comparison, and both artists' works are absolutely justified and most pleasant to my ears.
