Play softly on the flute!

Why does the prospect of playing softly on the flute make us so scared? It can seem so difficult. Often though, the technique of it is not discussed and when this is addressed I find students are clear about how to play even softer without compromising their sound. It's not so hard after all!

Great job Gwen! It's amazing that many people don't realize that you need to slow the air stream to play softly. It's just physics! ...and that's why it goes so flat, because during the short distance that the air needs to travel the air naturally falls. But I'm preaching to the choir because you obviously know this quite well!
