      Maybe i rented it from the video store way back in the early 90s.
      They also had a Japanese version of a Mario game with this blue cartridge attached to the real Nintendo cartridge I guess it was a converter for American platforms. But i never really got to play it because it was very glitchy can kept on freezing when i got to the have have mark 9m the first level
      From what i remember playing it was a cool game and i was extremely disappointed i couldn't play the game i even rented .more then 1 time playing on a friends system hoping it would work. But no dice. .but i remember the California raisn game being a reg Nintendo cartridge. Idk like i said it could be the Mandela effect
      I remember the game being kind of hard to play and i could not get past the first few levels
      Of the game. I i know i played the game because as a kid i love the cartoon and when i saw the game i was super excited. .

    I know theres a story of a company who prototyped a FPS for nes but it was cancelled because it was late in the market. I think it was the same that released that FPS bible game where you shoot goats for SNES.
    This video is good to show that while NES is an awesome console, people kinda exhausted their creativity for its technological capabilities at its time.

    For the NES, it's understandable why SOME were cancelled given that the system was coming up at the end of its lifecycle and the SNES was coming out.
    Robocop v Terminator would actually make a great film.
    But, yeah, and I will say this about ALL systems, GOTTA LOVE seeing them show AWESOME new games and then cancel...

    My guess is what killed NES sunman. The Developer being in Negotiations with DC and the age of the NES resulted in DC agreeing with the Super NES instead.
    Basically killing the NES version.
    To avoid upsetting DC the NES version Sunman got canceled all together.

    I had one friend who had a NES, as far as I can remember he only ever had the Mario Bros./Duck Hunt pack, the most enjoyment he got from it was because it meant he could say 'DUCK HUNT' at the top of his voice and it sounded like he was swearing, with the aim of pissing his dad off. Simple times!
    Aside from that my only experience of the console was from playing Mario Bros. in Boots, which nowadays feels a weird thing to say.
    The Terror of Tech Town, you know for a fact that that would've been an absolute ball ache to play with a Power Glove, it's interesting to see the sort of thing they were trying back then though.
    Bio Force Ape looks great, a bonkers premise is always enough to elevate a game, it's good to hear it's legit and not just a hoax from one malevolent mind.

    • @onaretrotip
      @onaretrotip  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Apparently, due to a combination of Nintendo only allowing a limited number of games for release and NES development being so cheap large studios like capcom made several games in a given time span and only picked the games they thought would sell.

    • @onaretrotip
      @onaretrotip  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds likely actually! I know that some developers created new companies that were subdivisions of the main company, purely so that their allotment of games would increase (from memory I think it was something like three games per year).

    Some of these could be bought here in Eastern Europe, like that Time Diver game, which I used to own; there were repros of it floating around even in the late '90s, from what I recall! We didn't get SMS at all, only Famiclones and C64/various Amigas in particular, and then the jump was straight to PSX (Sony is by far the most popular brand as far as consoles go, neither Sega nor Nintendo have anything on it in these parts). Great video, awesome work as always!

The FAMICOM safed your arses back then as it basicaly showed that gaming was still a growing thing. So no, most people already knew gaming but could not afford it. Plus : NA did in fact hate the fact that a Japanese console was better than everything they had.
