“The early game was shuffling the deck, the mid-phase was the mulligan, and the endgame was turn one.”
-Longtime MTG fans on how broken the Urza block was in 1998.

It sure seemed that way sometimes, didn’t it?

I love the lore of mtg and how the cards tell the story and just the artwork urza has to be my favorite character Tron 4 life

It took twenty years, but now we have some cards that kinda feel like they’re right at home in this set-in particular, Underworld Breach and Urza himself.

5:15 And that's why we love Urza. He really expected to be able to solo Yawgmoth.

I would argue against Urza's Saga being the most broken set ever made.
Yes at the time, it was EXTREMELY powerful, and had the best stuff since Alpha. It also had amazing combinations with Tempest, which itself was a really powerful block, but ultimately a lot of the power of Urza's Saga has been lost.
Yes, some of the cards are still powerful (Yawgmoth's Will/Bargain) etc, but some of the best cards of the time are completely irrelevant now. (Morphling/Masticore)
Ultimately, Mirridon is far more broken as a block and has COMPLETELY busted cards at every rarity, that will continue to be busted for years to come.

So many broken cards! Ultimately I think this is what drives people in the game. I didn't play at that time though; maybe it was frustrating for the players to deal with such broken cards.

It was fun and exciting. I was pretty young at the time. I vaguely recall some of the older players saying the game was ruined after the tempest block. Lol but those were the players that were around since alpha.
I took 4th at the regional junior super series. I mustve been 11 or 12 at the time. And my childhood friend took 2nd.

I don’t care if the set nearly broke Magic. I love it! Well, in hindsight anyhow.

Same. I loved it back in the day, despite how absurd it was.
