Fun story: back in the 90s i played at a game store owned by Henry G Higginbotham the artist of Voltaic Key, Cathodian, and worn powerstone. If you look at those cards carefully you can see that they aren't actually paintings but photographs of sculptures Henry created. As far as i know they are the only magic cards with photographs instead of paintings/cgi art.
I got into Magic around 4th Edition. I have to say, the art from Tempest block until Urza's block was, for me, the absolute best. Even though today's art is cool as well, the handdrawn (non-computer, I mean) artwork back then was simply stunning. Rebecca Guay, Therese Nielsen. Masters.
Same! I bought several boxes of Tempest and Urza’s Saga back in the day, but the sets that came out after the Urza’s block were pretty lame, so I basically stopped buying and playing.
So I now have a better understanding of the new vs old MtG art argument. The art on some of these cards is insane and I can certainly understand how images can stick with a player through the years. Like damn.
I'll spot the young bucks that we oldies suffer from nostalgia. No denying. But the artwork cannot be denied. I sit on my singles JUST cause of the feels alone.
There are a few reasons of it, but a lot of it is because of the move to digital. Not all the current art is awful...there some realy good pieces, and long term, traditional artists like Guay and Nielsen still turn out great stuff.
Yeah, I definitely don't think the new art is bad by any stretch, just a bit homogenized. The old art definitely has a certain grit and roughness that digital just cant replicate ya know?
I wouldnt say the art today is worse or less detailed. Its just way too generic more often than not which might be because of the way those are created nowadays. With generic I mean that there are thousands upon thousands drawings on the internet not really looking that much different. At some point you get saturated. The art back then is "flawed" in many ways but thats why its more appealing.
This makes me nostalgia hard for when I first learned to play during the Urza's block. I love all the Rebecca Guay cards from those, she was my favorite artist. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through you!

I thought you were supposed to watch this on Pornhub. That hairy arm ain’t SFW.
Thanks for the video! I used to buy so many boosters of Urza’s saga back in the day 😆 i wish i had saved some booster boxes haha. I had a gaia’s cradle too but i gave all my cards to a friend as i had no one close to play with anymore.
Thanks again for the video, brings back alot of nostalgia for me!
anybody notice the edit line at 21:47. rudy edited something out. dunno what it is though.
That’s really cool, but WHERE’S THE LIGHTHOUSE???
Whoa Jesus, where did all these boxes come from?
RUDY STOP CARESSING THAT BOX BEFORE I....
Okay he opened the box.
Like your videos a lot. Got inspired and entered the lair(closet) to find my VERY old collection. Seems like I had some nice cards as a kid.

"Welcome everybody, to the grand finale... Oh shit I cut the box in half."
Pewdiepie and Rudy could save Magic all together, we need them to work with each other
Which 1 would be taking penis? I say Felix, he a lil mo cuter.

My first booster box was Urza's saga back when i was 14. I don't remember what i got back then, but i currently have a cradle, an academy, yawgmoths will in some of my vintage decks. I also have a sneak attack deck with gambles (never got into show and tell). i also run quarries and morphlings in some decks. It my favorite set ever and this video was perfect
