Man, old school magic lore is something different. It has such a different feel to modern stories. I want a long epic like this again
Modern mtg is based on silly superhero movies. No real substance.

Absolutely one of my favorite sets when from when I started playing! The novel was pretty good, and I love the flavor of a Magic world war. I hope we can see more Kavu again in the future.

Of the leech cycle, Jade Leech did see regular play, appearing in sideboards at Top 8 decks at Pro Tour Tokyo in 2000. It's hard to imagine that people would have played those cards but a 5/5 for 4 mana was a very good rate then and it was standard for the time for above rate creatures to require a downside. It wasn't until Watchwolf that we really saw an undercosted creature with no downside. Now we get above rate creatures with upside!
Awesome work on this series. I would love it if this playlist were reversed, so I could listen to the history chronologically.
That would make sense as well, but we like having the newest episode on top.

Invasion is one of the best sets but its also one of the worst things to ever happen to Magic.
Playing gold cards before Invasion, wasnt worth it. Most of them were bad, but Invasion not only made gold cards worth playing, they gave you the dual lands and the mana resources to do it. It was a challenge to run all 5 colors, but it could be done, and it was satisfying.
...of course now gold cards are BEYOND oversued, literally thousands out since Invasion. Dual lands every single expansion, every set HAS to have dual lands of some kind, its just over done and meaningless now. When Invasion came out, it really felt like the rules of Magic were being broken as the world of dominaria was being destroyed in the story. It was really fun, but its a well Magic has drained dry since then.
To be honest, I find the huge collapse in creativity in card and set design to be far more disappointing than the over representation of multicolor cards.
These cheap IP plays, using science fiction, and ultra-mega-collector’s-edition-no-extra-design-needed-meets-etched-Japanese-foil-alternate-full arts are disheartening. Just cash grabs for as little work as possible.
I wasn't around for invasion,I started collecting in og innistrad but one of my favourite cards from invasion is Teferi s moat!I use it in my grand arbiter deck,it's so good!
