an idea i saw that i like more than just copper tools is the abiity to upgrade gold tools in a smithing table using copper to turn them into Rose Gold tools, giving them the speed of gold with the durability of iron tools
i agree on the idea, it would be nice to have a new set of tools that could change their look over time and have a unique role between wood and iron.... especially my luck on survival island worlds where there's no mountains and just ocean for miles in all directions.
would be usefull and it will just be like terraria, a tool used for early game that later gets outshined by easier to get materials you can mine and also so people would get used to the new material generation so instead of getting an ore you can mine but is mostly useless like lapis before you hit diamonds, you can use that one for a small step up to the newer tools with a small boost i do wonder how they would integrate the oxidizing of the ore then becouse leaving them out to oxidize and then mine to make better armour sounds something you need to find out to do like placing bookcases near an enchantment table, i can see a diffecoult way of making like a timer on tools so after being made it starts to tick down from shining copper to oxidised copper, lets say from like 100, every 20 or so points going down, it gets more oxidiced, and you can stop it if you put the item in the grind stone or something to lower the oxidetion and if you add that honey thing, then the timer freezes until like 100 durrability gets lost
i can imagine copper gear being pretty decent to start with (somewhere between the stone-iron range), but can become weaker overtime due to oxidization (lower durability, weaker attack, etc.). And like normal copper blocks, you can use honeycomb wax to keep it from rusting. It'd make sense, considering the abundance of copper you can find pretty early off the bat.
that would either end with you being bits and pieces all over the ground, or we'll end up being able to use the skyward strike which would make PVP a lot more interesting
That could be a funny enchantment, heh. Actually, that'd be really cool if maybe some enchantments were exclusive to certain materials. Though I dunno what the others could get
I feel like the oxidization would just decrease the durability while negating things like mending. However, imagine tools that have infinte uses within a finite time frame. Instead of copper tools having duribulity, they just degrade over the course of a set amount of time, making iron still superior, but if you are doing a lot of digging that would normally take a lot of durability like insta mining using a set diration life tool instead of a durability based tool could be useful.
maybe waxing could slowly degrade over uses alongside durability and once completely gone the tools would begin to oxidize, slowing down efficiency and making it more blunt, maybe it could boost sword and axe damage at the cost of removing sweeping edge or, in the case of axes, making durability degrade quicker. maybe in the new catacombs or whatever theyre called there could be enchanted books like swift sneak called "thick skin" which would somewhat negate negative potion effects if put on armor (slowing poison, making harming do less damage, making slowness do less) or slow down oxidization when put on copper tools
Honestly, I feel like part of the design choices behind the multipart Caves and Cliffs was the exploration of caves rather than branch mining from the older versions, and balanced out with the potential of going too deep and stumbling across sculk biomes. Which, honestly I'm *not* complaining about, it's made me love mining again, but at the same time branch mining shouldn't be overly nerfed as an option either.
@@mdbgamer556 Branch Mining isn't even nerfed though, it's simply changed. While yeah you get less variety of each material from branch mining-- in return you get even more of the specific ore you are branch mining for, which is much more useful than just getting random and equal amount of ores you don't even need. Don't even get me started with Iron Veins, you can't tell me that they nerfed Iron Branch mining in particular when this gives you a trail of Iron Veins that can grant you hundreds of Iron.
To add up on this. If ever Copper can be used for alloys ala crafting Netherite Ingots and placing earlygame tools on a smithing table - this also opens up Rose Gold and Bronze tools. A slight upgrade/sidegrade to Iron tools for the former and a set of items that's between iron and diamond for the latter.
I love how you covered the "realism" part of copper tools being added to Minecraft, as in the real world we literally went from Flint/Stone tools, to Copper, to Bronze & Brass (once we discovered how to alloy Copper with Zinc, Tin & Arsenic to make stable metals that also naturally destroy bacteria), *then* to Iron and finally Steel (mass-production on industrial level within the past 300-odd years) as we got better and better with metallurgy and understanding the sciences behind how materials interact (such as Carbon and Iron to make Steel) along with developing the tech to produce the materials in the first place through refining and such. Yes, we have things like Damascus Steel and other Patterned Steels that are like 2000-5000 years old, but there is relatively few examples of tools and tech made from such Steels that date back that far compared to the Steel alloys (and other alloys such as those based upon Aluminium and Magnesium) we've been producing since the Industrial Revolution.
The way I see a good progression system would be Wood Stone Copper Iron/Gold (Gold as enchant) Steel (iron+charcoal)/Rose Gold (Copper+Gold, sturdy and enchantment rich but only has Stone tier durability) Diamond Then maybe a diamond steel blend before we hit Netherite
@@Bofrab I mean, some of the earliest cutting tools we had used fragments and flakes of Obsidian (which is a Volcanic Glass), and knives with an obsidian edge are still some of the sharpest blades we can make today.
It stretches the early game slightly which was what the core Minecraft experience used to be centered around anyways, good fun survival. One of the biggest complaints of the game is how abundant everything became and quickly becomes creative mode with extra steps.
@@IanB3rry honestly i think its the giant caves, they make ore harvesting way too simple, also strip mining but you cant really control that unless you make ores spawn only inside of caves
@freeguy3894 yeah, your right, they should Def make the stone take longer to break to prevent strip mining... OHH WAIT, THEY DID FOR DIAMONDS AND LOOK AT THE BACKLASH THAT BROUGHT
Iron is not even made rarer, it's simply redistributed, I'd argue Iron is more common now than it is back then as a whole (without even including Iron Veins, which has like 700+ or even 1000+ Iron with just a single vein).
@@CraftingOnCommand Ultimately I think Mojang is going to get backlash no matter what they do sadly because it's hard to balance or fix something broken when the cats already put of the bag. Make Enchantments biome specific to encourage exploration? Backlash. Make ores have specific sweet spot levels to encourage multiple mines or strip mines? Backlash. Sadly with the enchantments it's clear they're not willing to just ignore it if enough people complain
I honestly didn't realize finding iron was considered so difficult, I've never really had issues finding it myself. Just finding a cave usually gives plenty of exposed iron ore.
Same! Normally I don’t have much of a problem finding it- From my experience it’s easiest to get the bigger caves which are relatively easy to find. Those caves typically have a bunch of iron in it, especially on the border of deep slate. And if you find a mineshaft it’ll be littered all over the place Same goes with lapis honestly- I find it just as often as Redstone, but that could just be me. Then again, I like to play the game rather slow at my own pace, so it could be possible the drive of progression is the main difference
@@funzythefox5126 yeah I think that exposed big caves are now even a bit TOO common. I mean entrance to really big cave should IMO be rather a rare occurrence but now they are like everywhere.
The problem is that going into a big cave to find iron typially involves dealing with a bunch of mobs, so you need armor or at least a shield to stand a decent chance at surviving. But you will need to have already found at least one piece of iron to craft a shield, so it's kind of a circular dependency thing unless you get lucky with finding a deposit on the surface or in a cliffisde, or alternately digging a staircase down to the y-level 16 with stone tools while specifically avoiding caves until you've found your first bits of iron.
@@GenuineLolotov Thing is, going to big caves to find iron early-game is... completely unnecessary...? Just go to a regular cave where less mobs spawn or go to the very obvious mountain/high elevation cave which has lots of iron and less mobs I seriously don't even remotely see any kind of "difficulty" of finding iron apart from if you are in a Swamp (which are small in general anyways) where caves are waterlogged.
Back before the terrain generation update, I used to find iron with no real difficulty. With the newer terrain generation, I'll usually find hundreds if not thousands of blocks of copper [ore] before I find even one iron unless I'm strip-mining. Combining that with the fact that they removed the ability to defend yourself at all without a shield (both by removing sword blocking and by changes to mobs/combat itself, like making swords ineffective against killing creepers and giving skeletons outright aimbot.. I get they needed a buff but they went too far), and it has become tedious to so much as ACCESS one of the core parts of the game (combat/exploration/adventuring). At the very least, copper should be able to be used for shields. I can deal without the armor, even if there's a viable niche for it.
I think there’s a decent chance they prioritize what might sell merch, and do the bare minimum for anything else. If they don’t make an “event” out of a new mob people won’t care.
one word: netherite they can be bold and creative when they want to, the problem is that they had to work on all the stuff they promised with 1.16-1.17 while also adding stuff from previous biome votes alongside the mob votes (which i believe are now a thing of the past), its why 1.21 was a success compared to 1.19 and 1.20, because they had more liberty on what to work on instead of being stuck with features that werent as good past concept (looking at you archaeology), and even then 1.21 was still stuck with the armadillo, and why everything related to it was so bland and just filler to bloat the game more. when mojang can work on something that works, oh boy its fire, but the moment they do something thats outside of the core of the game (EXP, automation, realistic animals, RPG mechanics, bosses), they tend to make things that either break the game or are so worthless that people will judge it for years to come, so it does make sense why they would do the lesser things first, after all, thats what they were doing past b1.9/release 1.0, with the occasional 'big' updates here and there sometimes (anvils, horses, wither, ocean monuments, singleplayer chances to a local server/LAN support)
To me it should be... A case of. They need to seriously add copper tools, or better yet, if got so much copper? Make it just as good for redstone, then please for the love of god BUFF all other ores. Make emeralds worth mining along side copper. Copper should be a modifier for iron tools as mainly alt-repair or a pickaxe that doesn't care about alternate stone types. As it would give copper more value to other pickaxe.
I’ve had some trouble myself. Not so much with finding iron, but more so with gathering a substantial amount of it. There’s the ore vein distribution, limited early game mobility, hostile mobs (skeletons are frightening when you have no armor).
@@GGBlaster absolutely the thing for me, I can never get enough iron for a sustainable amount of tools because I mine and spelunk so I still mine a lot of blocks which is just unsustainable with irons horrible lifespan
@@HeydenHarvey That's the point of Unbreaking. You can use two diamonds, a book, and four obsidian to get enchantments for your tools on-demand with the appropriate experience threshold so that iron generally lasts longer. Even if bookshelves are a major investment, once you have a cow farm and sugar cane farm to make them, it's only a matter of time.
(Butch here) Honestly the thing that sold me on the copper inventory and gear, was the fact that having them officially in the game could make it so other modders could use the same item value and type so different "Ore" versions of copper could be used in crafting, and so you could have recipes and items from both base game and mods and not have a hoarder's backpack filled with em potentially, more options is always good, and Ace taught me about ore placement and worldgen, that's a win.
I was personally thinking of them adding some kind of copper pipes for Redstone item systems in vanilla. Maybe give them varying thickness or how wide they are so they have different speeds of transfer instead of having to use hoppers constantly.
would also cut down on the lag hoppers cause for multiple large redstone machines, cause hoppers constantly check for items above them which lags the game if you have like 50 or more loaded in. especially bad for servers. you can just put a composter or chest over them to stop the lag, but with copper piping or chutes, you wouldn't have to worry about the lag AND they'd be cheaper than hoppers.
I have never had an issue finding iron early game. I usually have full iron tools and armor + a bucket and flint and steel in like 10-20min or in like 5-10min if I find a good cave/mountain/structure. And it's even less time if I am actually trying and not just messing around.
I think that copper tools would work better as a stone+ tool so it is basically stone but faster and stronger and possibly faster than iron so there would be a good use after the early stages as an abundant tool instead of stone which won't cause the need for so many variations of copper.
Considering how copper isn't very great for gear in general, they could add bronze instead, by adding a bunch of copper + 1 iron to the crafting table. (yes, I know you use Tin to make bronze, but let's keep it simple) It would be a slightly weaker version of iron for both tools and armor, with some minor tweaks to make them a valid iron alternative instead of a downgrade. Like, the armor could have a point of two reduced from Armour Toughness to lose some defense, a little less durability, but it's higher density give it a little bit of knockback resistance in exchange (not as much as netherite, of course). The weapons could have slightly more damage due to the extra weight + sharper edge, but lose some speed in exchange. Tools could have tier 2 mining, with a little extra efficiency due to it's higher density/sharper edge, etc. All that for the cost of durability, of course. This way you would still need SOME iron to progress, but this iron race would be way more bearable. With about 4 or 5 ingots you'd already have enough bronze for a full setup, but iron would still be slightly better and would have other uses, so bronze's availability wouldn't fully overshadow it. And copper would remain being a mainly decorative item.
My idea for copper tools that I've had since copper was added, was to have the tools and armor be in between stone and iron. The tools would be able to mine the same ores as stone, but with the speed of iron. And the weapons and other tools would be right in the middle between stone and iron with speed and durability. The armor would be similar, it would have slightly less durability than iron armor, but it would give only slightly more armor than leather. Some other things could also be given a second crafting recipe. Powered rails could use both copper and gold, as well as clocks, lanterns, and pressure plates.
And also a thing between iron and diamond via gold tools with copper using the smithing table,i mean you need iron to mine gold so why not? It gives both gold tools AND copper as a whole, another use Slightly more durability than iron (like around 400,similar durability to the bow not anywhere near diamond) ,and slightly faster than even diamond but slower than netherite, unlike gold where its the fastest tool but barely holds itself together, its not the fastest, but isn't nearly as useless because it doesn't commit break after you mine 30 blocks with it
I think the biggest issue for copper armor that people don't realize is just how hard it would be to add armor tiers that exist between currently existing ones due to how little room for variance the current defense point system offers. As an example, people always point to Chain Mail as being this in between for Gold and Iron in terms of the defense points of a full set, but really the only difference between Gold and Chain Mail is that Chain Mail leggings give 4 defense points as opposed to Gold legging's 3. You read that right, excluding leggings, Gold and Chain Mail give exactly the same amount of defense points. And it doesn't stop there. Gold and Chain Mail helmets give the same amount of defense points as Iron helmets. And Gold and Chain Mail boots have the same defense points as leather boots. This means that the only difference when upgrading between these armor tiers is the durability, which is something I had no idea about until researching it just now. I think if they're going to add copper armor, they should add more variance in armor points or balance the durability around copper being significantly easier to find than iron.
I think a better solution would just be making leather armor cheaper, because trust me people would absolutely just skip iron tools and I really don't like the idea of that, it'd basically solve the same problem because you need very little iron to make tools and a shield compared to full armor, so instead of letting copper be the worse but more early game friendly armor you could just have it be leather, I'd actually love to see a system where instead of getting leather from mob drops you get hides and have to tan them into leather, and then you could pick between hide and leather depending on how much time you can invest, they'd just need to make hides/leather drop more common and then find a way to make books harder to get inspite of it
Yeah, that and make Leather protect a bit better (because actual leather armor's protectiveness IRL can even match that of regular Iron if it's purposed as armor). They could make it so Leather drops could be crafted to make leather pieces which would then be able to craft armor and such, OR just change the Book's recipe by requiring more leather to compensate for it being more common.
From Frosty's comment, that give me another idea for potential Copper armor and tools. Wearing or having copper, you're more likely to be struck by thunder during a thunderstorm. When hit, you will be given the shield effect like a charged creeper and your armor and tools will be charged too. The charge enhances the copper's effects; faster mining, stronger attack, and higher defense with a similar thorns enchantment as lightning would hurt from other mobs touching it. However, this charge would have the durability of 100, lasting for a certain amount of time before going away. No way to keep it with enchants like unbreaking or mending, and doesn't make the equipment permanately stronger or better than enchanted diamond or iron. While people could just make many sets prepared, who's going to lug around 3 stacks of charged copper items and armor on a regular playthrough? Or when would a thunderstorm strike a Minecraft battle arena? Admins could simply disable this charged effect for games when lightning strikes are a sign of elimination. And only reading this now, this could be an idea to combo with a channeling Trident; you strike yourself and use the charged power to win a fight.
Yeah, true. But when you think about it, what was added to Minecraft in updates wasn't vanilla styled either; aquatic exploration, a material stronger than diamond, or a mob stronger than the wither. Each idea added in an update started out as non-vanilla from the modding community until Mojang got working on it officially. Obviously, there'd be major differences to this idea like maybe having the charged copper run on a durability timer before the charged power disappeared, but the possibilities of copper's usage is still up in the air for Mojang to decide. Who knows, maybe in 1.21.1, copper may just turn into a new, stronger power source than redstone people will use.
@GetComfyTV a lot of those are just expansions to the game using preexisting stuff. The Warden is just a BS mob with its stats cranked all the way up. The aquatic update is just new biomes, a few mobs, and a new weapon. Netherite is the least vanilla of them all mainly because it's the only armor with knockback resistance as well as needing a template, but otherwise, it's still just a set of armor. What you're suggesting is an early game set of armor with an entirely unique system that of which is built off being struck by lightning, which I still agree is a cool idea but is besides the point.
I guess it is. Yeah, the charged armor idea does sound very different when putting it a smidge above iron and below diamond. But with every update being added to Minecraft, vanilla doesn't exactly sound like just defeating the Ender dragon anymore.
sorry rotting one... i dont think copper will fix the early game... best if it was left to decor, spyglasses, and lightning rods... oh and copper bulbs... those are a huge improvement...
More mechanical blocks are *always* a welcome addition to the scene. Copper is a prime resource for this, in both abundance and realistic use. Copper could be used instead of the far rarer gold in powered rails, and could potentially have other redstone related uses.
@mdbgamer556 actually... this isn't bad... well... using copper in redstone builds... I did just learn you could use copper bulbs to make a fully functional "hard drive..." very interesting stuff...
Copper is better off being useful in other areas than items that are only gonna be used for 3 minutes throughout the entire game, Copper Bulb (a T-flip flop) is legitimately more useful and has more significance to the game's Redstone compared to the miniscule impact Copper Tools will give.
@@user-tzzglsstle585e38 agreed... and besides... it wouldn't be like mojang to add a whole new set of armor and tools... they are more interested in making combat slightly more different...
i kind of like the idea of copper being "weaker iron"... but i think its *better* for it to be "stronger stone"! it has the same breaking limits as stone (can't mine diamonds) but has increased durability and mining speed. maybe even the maybe speed of iron! this way, copper bridges the gap between stone and iron, but is more of a strange optional upgrade, for when its needed. you wont be able to grab one of the 3 million copper ores and go straight to diamond; you still need to get iron first. it just wont be as painful XD
I understand you opinion on iron distribution, but i allways felt like the progression from stone to iron was allways too quick... so i kinda do enjoy how it became slightly harder to find iron, coper is more similar to quartz a decorative and crafting tool, copper tools would be cool though haha
Maybe if Minecraft learned from their cousin Terraria and did this earlier, it wouldn't be an issue, since guess what, Terraria gives you copper first, then naturally progresses up the metals, each with own conditions and mechanics to define it, including magic potential.
In a recent playthrough with some friends, it felt a lot easier to go from iron to diamonds than stone to iron. Once we mined low enough to get reasonable iron distribution, it was easy to go a few blocks lower to strip mine for diamonds.
The core problem with Minecraft's progression is that everything just feels like wasting time until diamond. you make a wood pick, then replace it with a stone pick, then replace that with an iron pick, then you get 32-some-odd diamonds and *now* you can start the game. why would you dig a bunch of sand with 15 stone shovels when you can use 1 diamond shovel? In a game like terraria, platinum tools and weapons have genuine uses before getting replaced, as you have to stick with them through King Slime and the Eye of Cthulhu until meteorite or hellstone, and you use those until you get better tools and armor, so on and so forth. but in Minecraft, you grab 3 stone then immediately throw away your wooden pickaxe which still has full durability. Iron breaks this by having way too many uses, but compared to gold, diamond, netherite, and many other minerals and metals, iron is the exception. If you had to make some sort of stone melter to make stone tool heads to force you to use wooden tools, that would be interesting. a copper-based blast furnace to smelt iron, rather than a normal furnace, would do the pacing nicely. Netherite already has the smithing table, so diamonds can stay the same, or maybe change, idk.
To be honest Terraria progression does have it's issues as well. Most players won't bother making ore armour and weapons early game unless thy focus on melee weapons (and even then they'll go for something that can be found instead of crafted). They'll just go with the starter tools up until they get the evil ore pick, then go to hellstone. Then in hardmode, the ore progression is a speed bump, no one makes palladium or orichalcum armors for example, nor their respective weapons, unless they are playing with the Calamity mod's progression tweak. They just go straight to titanium/adamantium, or ignore it entirely and get straight to hallowed gear if they're really tryharding.
As an example of sandbox tool progression done right, I always point to Vintage Story. I think it's due to the mentality that the game promotes, that of "building with what you can" rather than starting huge projects. You are NOT going to have a mansion in the stone age. You will most likely have a little hut. In the copper age, sure you could try and make a massive castle, but you're better off making something smaller-scale. The bronze age opens things up a bit more, with the enhanced tools allowing for larger builds. Iron and steel then finally allow you to start getting things going on a larger scale, if you wanted to that is. The early progression takes time and is a journey all to it's own. You don't have to "get the best tools to begin the real game" because the real game IS the journey, and what you do along the way. Steel tools are just a nice bonus.
@@genericusername5671 Ehhh Vintage Story is something that I have issues with. The journey of being stuck _without_ ores as opposed to having an overabundance of ores everywhere. You're not gonna get past stone tools without spending several hours jsut looking for ore unless you crank up the spawnrate in the settings to not have a miserable time with it (and it ain't something you're gonna do on a whim in multiplayer).
@@simplysmiley4670 Personally I have never had any real gripes obtaining ores. Copper is easy to spot if you go into a desert and look for the pebbles. (No pesky plants to get in the way!) Worst comes to worst, you can always pan sand and gravel for copper nuggets. From then on you will at least have metal tools like picks and saws, provided you know that underneath copper pebbles are large copper deposits. Tin isn't too bad, and you can also find tin nuggets in cracked ore vessels. You don't need much to make bronze. After that, iron can be a pain sometimes, but if you prospect around a bit you shouldn't struggle too much. Steel is an extra step for the really committed. It's not necessary, so I'll often hold off on steelmaking for a long time. Also I know it's kinda cliche, but it makes it feel super rewarding when you get that first metal pick, or first saw. I get that ore finding can be an issue, and in my first world I had a really tough time getting copper, but that didn't really bother me. I played at my own pace and ended up panning for the nuggets, before eventually finding some deposits.
@@simplysmiley4670 im not sure what you mean by that; i dont think anyone sticks with like a wooden bow or the copper shortsword or something. most of the decent early game equipment is made with bars. the only ores that really get ignored are copper and tin since that's what you start with anyway. most players still grab iron for its multitude of uses for things like buckets and ironskin potions, and then grab tungsten/silver until they can find enough gold/platinum to cover everything. i guess you could just ignore ores outright if you want to rush orbs or use only chest loot from the desert/snow biome, but it's way easier to do if you actually interact with ores, which is what i feel most early game players DO do; there's no reason not to. the same can be said for palladium and orichalcum. you can't legitimately tell me people unironically brave master mode underground and get enough titanium and adamantite to make their full tool sets without also making the previous sets. you still need them anyway to get the pickaxes, and you can easily fight the mechs in palladium and orichalcum. cobalt and mythril on the other hand... but my point still stands that people DO use them, just not for as long as in something like calamity, like you mentioned. im not saying terraria progression doesn't have issues, but they're not what you're saying they are.
Quick comment before watching, copper is a soft metal as well as gold, they both should not have their respective tools. Sure, they can be used for powered rails or spyglasses, but pickaxes, axes, hoes, shovels- No. Copper and gold are too soft metals to be able to make reliable tools out of them. Also, the quick breaking with golden tools is unrealistic, as the tool itself would break quicker than the block it mines, the same goes for copper. Edit: with the progression, yeah. They did use copper tools, but the modern copper tools are made from alloys, in the past times when they used just copper for tools, they were not very durable. Also, diamond tools should not exist. Sure, there are diamond saws and drills in real life, but they work on rubbing the diamond against the rock, not hitting the rock with the diamond part, as diamonds are hard, but not tough, so they would instantly brittle. Also, netherite tools should not exist, as even if netherite is tough, that means it bends, so it will bend on impact. Also, there is diamond inside the netherite tools, so when the netherite bends, the diamond brittles? So basically only wooden, stone, and iron tools should exist from the current tools? If Mojang added alloys to Minecraft THEN there could be copper/gold tools, as well as steel tools. But still no diamond tools. If Netherite tools were to be properly added, they would need to be from JUST Netherite. (Netherite itself can be considered an alloy, as it uses unknown scraps with gold in a 50:50 ratio)
If there's one thing I wish Mojang didn't do, it's putting things in before they have established uses, be it either in building or some sort of unique mechanic, especially if it shows up in very, _very_ large quantities like tuff and copper. Tuff was a big point of contention for me, since for a long time it would just bloat up my inventory space and just be something to throw into lava at the nearest possible opportunity. Its base form just doesn't look good, and its cut variants took a really long time to be implemented. They don't always do this, mind you, but when they do it frustrates me to no end. The endless hoops to get what is tantamount to bragging rights (such as the Sniffer and that flower) are the other side of the coin. Again, they don't always do this, but when they do the annoyance factor skyrockets.
I think the tool progression in general needs a major rework and copper tools just so happen to be the best fix for that: - Wood can still mine stone + coal and remains largely unchanged. - Stone is its own new tier that can mine copper ore but otherwise remains unchanged in terms of mining speed and durability. - Copper can mine iron and lapis ore, so they're essentially old days stone tools but instead they inherit the properties of iron tools to make up for that. - Iron can mine the same ores as before. However they should see a good boost in mining speed, durability and attack damage so the gap between iron and diamonds isn't so big. - Diamond and Netherite remain unchanged except for both gaining +1 in attack damage so there's still a clear progression in dps where each new tool tier gives +1 attack damage.
Personally I wouldn’t make it Copper tools, but I would do Rose Gold! Hear me out, you take golden tools to the smithing table and add a copper bar to them and in return you get a rose gold tool/weapon/armor piece. They’d be slightly more durable than stone equipment and more enchantable than iron equipment, but not quite as enchantable as golden equipment. It would give a use to all the useless golden equipment outside of wearing golden boots to make piglins piss off
I agree on the general idea but NOT on the specific of rose gold. I think it should KEEP enchantability of gold, also just slightly more durable than stone is not enough. At least halfway between stone and iron is absolute minimum to make this feature worthwhile. Also it should be able to mine all that iron tools can (rose gold is pretty durable alloy after all). Maybe even they could got 1-2 points to their speed (outpacing netherrite even more). Also rose gold armor would give the same level of protection that iron currently gives BUT iron armor would get 1 hardness point per element(half what diamond have and 1/3 what netherite have).
I havent watched a video of yours in absolutely ages. Ages. I dont remember your voice being so high pitched. For your question, I believe Copper should exist as an inbetween to Iron and Stone. Everything iron can do, copper should do, with less durabiliry but far easier to repair.
Good idea, bad reasoning. Quick switch to iron is a PROBLEM. Within 10 minutes, you can get third best tools and second best armor. 1000 blocks isn't that much, it's the average distance traveled while looking for a place to build your base. Copper tools are needed so that iron can be made less frequent near Y0 without making progression sluggish. Copper, and potentially bronze smooth out the jumpy system.
@@miimiiandco yeah but it's too easy to quickly jump to diamond level. You technically need only 3 pieces of a common ore and you can now get the 2nd best tools and the best armor.
MatPat made an entire video years ago talking about how worthless Diamond armor would be in real life. Minecraft doesn’t care about your realism (or at least it used to not) Either way Copper deserves more, and this mod is awesome. I know what I’m adding to my mod list next.
Actually this is gonna sound heretical but prior to the nether update, gold tools were the fastest in the game, even beating diamond. They just had poor durability and mining level. That mining level and durability doesn't matter as much, however, if you're making an axe, and if you get them enchanted with mending and unbreaking 3, even a gold shovel can be a solid option.
It still is. 50% faster than diamonds and 33% than netherite. That's why instead of adding pointless middle-tier with copper tools, we should use copper to upgrade gold tools into rose gold ones(similar to how we upgrade to netherrite. And yes rose gold is real thing - alloy of gold and copper). With ability to mine all that iron can and somewhat similar durability. But enrchantability and speed(well maybe moved 1 or 2 points) of gold. Because even with unbreaking III and mending golden tools are just to brittle to be usefull.
Just make copper tools lower durability than iron, and make it so that it cant mine diamond And give it higher enchantability than iron but lower than gold
wait hey Ace you said terrain gets crazier about a thousand blocks out, meaning mountains are rarer near spawn, where is this information you're getting?? I can't find anything about it online
I still think they'll just be bad Iron that people skip. Iron isn't *that* rare if you know where to look. A single ore would give you enough for a pickaxe. It doesn't even solve Copper lacking a non-decorational sink.
I would do the same as you for balancing it, but maybe have electric based enchantments exclusive to the armor l, imagine being struck by lightning and taking reduced damage and becoming charged like a creeper can be, dealing more damage while charged
The issue about different forms of copper is actually quite easy to fix, since forge has a feature in which it lists all items of a cerain type (for example: #forge:copper), these can then be used in crafting recipes, smelting recipes, etc.
its because they want copper to fill a different niche than the rest of the ores. Copper is primarily for building, which is unique to the other ores already in the game.
@@Gamer_Dylan_6that fact it’s for building is pretty nice but I would love it to have some more uses, even if it’s something small like water proofing redstone or making alloys for more building blocks
@@seandorama5932 more uses will come over time. Its usefulness rn is on the same level as lapis, but as time goes on its gonna be added to more recipes like in the most recent update with all of the new decor blocks.
If they want to talk about copper being unrealistic, I would like to point them to *DIAMOND TOOLS, WEAPONS AND ARMOR!* If one were willing to overhaul the entire progression system, maybe there could be the standard tool line (stone to iron to netherite), and one where the tools are weaker but get more from enchantments (wood to copper to gold). The equivalent for armors would be leather vs chain, copper vs iron, gold vs netherite. And yes, I did take diamond entirely out of the equation, but it will still be relevant as your diamonds would be used to make diamond studded variations that can improve your tools, weapons and armor further. How? Haven't fully thought it through, maybe it would just make the enchantments better, or maybe it could do something unique for the item categories. One problem is how jarring it would be to remove such recognizable imagery as diamond equipment. Another issue is what would happen to all the already existing diamond utilities? Down shifted to an improved iron? Up shifted to netherite? A third problem is hard for me to explain, but improving your gear with gem slots just feels wrong to put in the game.
I think copper tools and ways to improve redstone blocks such as pistons and rails would be enough for copper. I’d be more interested in amethyst armour since they were both introduced in the same update…
I was thinking copper could be the reverse of what you said, instead of being iron tools bit weaker, copper could be stone tools but stronger. So you still need to find iron for getting diamonds and stuff, but copper still makes pre-iron much better.
i don't think there should be copper tools, each ore drops 2-5 and theres alot of copper in caves so it would have to be really weak to prevent it from being too overpowered copper should get more uses but it doesn't really need a new armor set they should also make iron slightly more common and make diamonds slightly rarer so progression isnt as bad
Agree to disagree. I see where Ace is coming from on the copper tools aspect, and iron does tend to be a lot rarer on the RNG spectrum due to the new generation, which is honestly a good thing because of how ridiculously useful iron is in a lot of recipes and such.
I wonder if there should be tin and you can smelt tin and copper ingots together to make bronze. Bronze should be better than iron because for most of history Bronze was generally stronger than iron. I think its possible to make the next grade of metal, steel you need a blast furnace. Then you can mix iron ingot with charcoal or coal in the blast furnace to make steel
"Copper tools aren't realistic" my brother in christ this is the game where you can make diamond swords, I think tools based on a metal we actually used for tools irl (like Ace said) is less unrealistic than fashioning boots out of solid diamond.
Systemzee created a ton of ideas for copper when it first came out, including the ability to make green light sources (that lit up areas but still allowed hostile mobs to spawn in the light) and the ability to add copper to gold armor and tools in a smithing table to make rose gold items, which had the strength of gold items with the durability of iron, offering a cheaper alternative to diamonds during the mid-game. Overall his concepts and ideas were really well thought out and would actually change minecraft's progression and add legitimately useful things
damn, wasn't expecting to actually be convinced. minecraft's got a lot of issues i'd work on fixing before this one; in particular, the hunger system. i've been playing a much more casual world where i just switch peaceful on/off just so i can relax a bit more, and I gotta say... the hunger system's just about one of the worst mechanics in the game right now. having to stop and take a snack break every 5 seconds, especially in the middle of a fight, is just so ungodly annoying, and not to mention how many food items are completely invalidated in their entire existence by other foods that are not only much easier to come by, but also are just better in every aspect???? like. i can't think of any reason to use a vast majority of the food items beyond steaks, porkchops, and golden apples. tell me, in what scenario are you ever going to rely on _baked potatoes_ or _melon slices?_ hell, cookies are probably one of the worst offenders. same crafting recipe as bread, but replace the middle wheat with something that's much less common, and make it exclusively worse as a food item. sure, okay. makes sense to me. anyway thanks for coming to my ted talk
I've had a pet idea rattling around in my head for a while now. although maybe I just read it somewhere Basically, basic "food groups" for the food items. Something like Fruits, Veggies, Meat, Carbs, Sweets. These groups are invisible, a hidden mechanic like saturation, and in fact work with saturation Basically, each food group has it's own separate saturation So some examples Basically the optimum feasible diet right now in Minecraft is an all-steak diet. 3 steaks fills your hunger bar out with an extra 12.8 units of saturation However, under the proposed system of my pet idea, a mixed diet is far better On an empty hunger bar, you could have a steak (meats, 12.8 sat), a golden carrot (veggies, 14.4 sat), bread (carbs, 6 sat), and finish off desert with a pumpkin pie (sweets, 4.8 sat), for a grand total of 38 saturation for your well-rounded meal You'll not have to eat for a while after that
Potatoes are easier to farm en mass so baked potatoes are one of the easiest foods to automate. Melon slices are mostly used in potion making. Cookies are cosmetic. We don't make cookies to feed ourselves in real life. They're a treat. Overcomplicating things like this have a chance of completely being a turn off to people who don't want to worry about food too much.
May be controversal or dumb for reasons, I don't really care, but: Mojang should just add all the content that has been announced/mentioned/cancelled over the years, and parity all the items from other Minecraft projects into Minecraft, this would be insane. They already have the assets/have made it one way or another so would it be so bad? Also FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, add a combat protocol that can easily toggle between Minecraft: Java Edition's 1.7.X's and 1.9.X+ combat systems (I exclude 1.8.X because it genuinely made combat feel and look more finicky). This would not hurt anyone, if you want the old combat version, use it, if you don't, don't. It's not even bizarre it's just plain stupid Mojang won't allow us to switch this ALMOST A DECADE after many many players refuse to update server versions for base players. Along with that, please just give us mutli-threaded servers and transfer packets, it would make the multiplayer experience so much better for the player-side and the server-side. I don't know, this was a mini-rant in a way because I'm genuinely just annoyed at Mojang and that probably won't change. I haven't been the biggest fan past 1.6 and really haven't been a fan post 1.9/1.16. Awesome video though, they really should add a better use for copper, it was completely useless at launch and it basically still is. They should've just added the copper golem to give any substance to having the new ore to the game because it's crazy abundant. Copper items should've been added from the get go.
Oh yes, there's so much content announced, cancelled and in other projects... I mean there was so many cool blocks in Dungeons and Legends. And some of Dungoen ones could be great to use for End update. BUT here's the only small issue with that idea. It can't really be done all at once. I mean the end-related blocks without end update wouldn't make so much sense. And while with blocks it is relatively easy (just adding itself doesn't need more than taking textures and configure some basic properties) they still need ways to make them and perhaps be generated somewhere (in new structure? But designing good one isn't just one hour task). With mobs it is even harder, as not always they can just copy AI from another one. Also some mobs could just be redundant - like copper tools are, yes copper needs more uses but copper tools are not the way. There are dozens FAR better and MORE useful ideas, like for example: pipes, sorting hopper(and generally other things to help with minimalization of redstone contraptions), improving powered rails, creating green flames and with that green lanterns, or just copper lanterns, chains etc. And if we are talking about tools then a rose gold one would be a better pick, as they could at least make golden tools somewhat useful.) And other would just not have fitting place in the current state of the game (like the enderman variants from dungeons - they belong rather in the new end, which don't exist yet - but also things like moobloom would be actually better fit to eather-like dimension than overworld).
Atleast for java I'd love another performance update. How do people m Without access to the source code make better performance through mods (optifine, sodium) than Mojang itself? They should hire the sodium guy and implement it's changes in the vanilla game (since optifine guy doesn't want to, he was asked afaik)
One time I made a simple mod that added Copper Tools by giving them the mining level, attack damage, and mining speed of iron, but 191 durability, which is between stone and iron. For some reason I gave it 15 enchantability which is the same that Netherite has. Perhaps you could even get Tin and combine it with copper in a similar way to gold and netherite scraps to create Bronze and upgrade the durability of Copper Tools, giving the Smithing Table more use early game
You have some good points and the oxidization of copper tools giving them more durability seems like a pretty fun concept and that would definitely be better than what gold tools are. But iron can actually be pretty common if you just find a good cave, as you can get fully set up with all the iron you need.
I think making copper tools perhaps slower/weaker than iron, but with higher durability would give them a nice niche. Though, I don’t personally ever find an issue with finding iron. With just one good cave, you can find all the iron you need and some.
Here's one last argument: Copper would cramp the progression system, if Mojang was constantly adding new tiers of ores and it would NOT help the "Complicating minecraft" problem.
What we need is obsidian weapons too, just combine obsidian with wooden tools and you'll get devastating damage with slightly more durability than stone since it is volcanic glass
Copper is too common to be a replacement for iron, mostly because the new terrain exposes it a lot more than what the old terrain did with iron. Maybe adding a way to turn big quantities of copper into makeshift iron like you make wood into charcoal would be a better option.
Frankly, I think it's about time we get some significant progression changes in general, It's been 15 years and we've only gotten Netherite as a new progression tier and the Wither as the only new boss besides the Ender Dragon. It's just too shallow. And will continue to be shallow if Mojang continues with these almost side-grade updates, I have literally never seen a Sniffer in game and Archeology is worthless. They do occasionally branch into doing something interesting, Caves and Cliffs, Deep Dark, Nether Update but the vast majority of the time they do these super safe sanitized updates that don't significantly change the game in any way. The ENTIRE progression needs a once over, introduce more tiers of gear, (Yes including copper gear), NERF DIAMOND or make them SIGNIFICANTLY harder to get (not grindier, HARDER, there is a difference), give biomes and dimensions more reason to explore them, ffs the only things of value offered by the end are the elytra and shulker boxes once you get those you never go back. The enchantment system needs a complete redo, from the ground up, so many enchantments completely useless, and so many enchantments that are complete no-brainers. Nerf the shit out of villagers they completely turned the end game into farming simulator. Minecraft in its current state feels *aimless* in all sense, why bother doing anything if the rewards are 4 gold ingots and a music disk? You practically HAVE to mod it to make it entertaining for longer than an afternoon (since that's probably as long as it will take you to beat the ender dragon). I'm basically asking for them to take a note out of Terraria's book tbh, not one for one I'd never ask that, but it's possible to provide players with both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in the game, Minecraft just leans faaar too much to one end of that scale. They can continue to add loot and dungeons and exploration, but when the best way to acquire the best gear is to strip mine and trade with villagers then there's no point to any of it. Excuse my autism rant, just worked a bad shift and this is basically me venting lol
I think one of the biggest issues with this argument is the game was meant to be a sandbox. It gave you incentives to build in alpha/beta by making the night difficult to handle without structures and torches placed all over the place, and that in turn would trigger encouragement to be creative. With a simple palette of blocks to build with and no bosses to defeat, we had nothing but ourselves and our own goals to set out to complete, and that was our progression besides getting the occasional full set of diamond and whatnot. On the flipside, progression is absolutely a good thing to have, even in a survival sandbox game. I feel like durability is a needless hassle, personally, and is long overdue for removal or replacement. When it comes to the enchantment system, we should definitely have a less *rng* focused mechanic(blergh, rng bad), and instead have a more exploration and emphasized on building based mechanic for enchanting. For example: Imagine changing out your bookshelves for various other versions of bookshelves(different wood types, or even the new chiseled shelf with enchanted books) or other blocks(gold, lapis, skulls, candles(different colors)) you name it, as well as proper material components(mob drops) to affect what enchantments you get. More unique weapons should be added to mix up combat a little more(tridents and crossbows now exist, but is that really enough?), combat could use an overhaul(Better Combat is an excellent example of this). Bosses could use an overhaul, and more could be added as well as making the pseudoboss(poor elder guardian) a more proper boss with proper preparation being available to combat it(take a couple milk bottles, perhaps, to stave off mining fatigue and specifically mining fatigue, as these new milk bottles would target one single effect and target negative effects first). I'm pretty sure shields don't work against the guardian lasers, so going for a trident before going after the elder guardian would be a preparation component, as well as enchanting it with drops from guardians to make it more useful altogether. Villagers could require being able to freely move around on grass blocks and see the sky and be able to gossip with other villagers of differing professions, have proper limitations as to what counts as a proper bedroom, and require specific multiple block setups for their professions to function well. This combined with a randomized restocking of items each day could break down the villager trading prisons literally everyone and their mothers build these days, and encourage more proper builds that look genuinely good and slow down the "farming simulator" aspects of villager grinding. There's many unique ways to put more focus back on what Minecraft had originally been intended for. Mojang, unfortunately, is not allowed to/won't do anything because of a frankly ridiculous fear of changing anything and thus ruining the game and plummeting the player count and sales. Thank you, Microcrap.
@@mdbgamer556I'll be honest I don't think it's ridiculous I think they should definitely change more but with every update people always go "this feels modded" and like actively changing a lot of the foundations of Minecraft could bring a far more negative response
Copper tools SHOULDN’T be added to the game. Arguments are simple: 1) we still have plenty of iron, just go in a cave. Digging straight down never was a good strategy, but you use only it in the video 2) Realism. You speak about iron swords been very durable in reality, but your forgor - every other tool else is durable too, unless it’s some garden equipment, which are only copper tools from reality you’ve shown. So copper tools will have durability near to stone tools or in the middle between iron and stone, which is still so small to be efficient as an alternative to iron, which you need them to be 3) Progression. New ore generation didn’t ruin it - just don’t cry about not having full iron armor set in three minutes after spawning in (sorry, I couldn’t find more polite word than “cry”, I tried). And why would you need tools like “we are iron but worse” in your progression if iron is still very easy to get? 4) Oxidation. Copper tools would become less durable by oxidising, not more. So the mod is cool, but you wanted this to be kinda realistic… Imagine you don’t have to get everything from iron in five minutes, 10-15 is still normal and I take no more than this every time I start a new world. We are not speedrunning Also, copper is a building block, so you need to have lots of it and it isn’t useless at all. This has become even better after 1.21 release with new copper blocks I should have made a reaction video instead of making such a long comment😆
Adding to your second counterargument. Realism should never be the main reason for the implementation of a mechanic in minecraft. Realism should be a nice bonus for an already fun mechanic, but minecraft is not the game for adding features solely to further our reality into its fantastic world.
For me I think the most important thing is: we need some way of getting a shield-like item before iron. Because with the aimbot they gave skeletons, and the nerf they gave melee against creepers, it went from vaguely being able to defend yourself against small groups of mobs to, "oh no, one skeleton. Great, now I'm going to lose EVERYTHING," in the early game.
I've never thought that we need new another armor/toolset unless iron were to be made a lot rarer/harder to get (imo even harder than it is rn, bcz i do feel like it's super easy to find iron and iron stuff randomly in structures). But your point at 11:50 actually did convince me. It maybe shouldn't be the most convincing point, but for me it was lol Edit: I love that skin. Looks so good
Wow it took me till the end to realize that this was your channel! I haven't watched your stuff in a couple years, good to see your stuff again, and your voice sounds great!
Gotta love how Mojang made Iron available to fortune as a response to Iron farms feeling required And now theyre somehow even more required than before
They didn't even make it for that at all, they made Iron and such drop as items so the player's inventory isn't filled with two different types of blocks of the same Ore, which is an issue when there's not even bundles yet, fortune is simply a by-product.
i'd rather have copper allow to be plated onto gold like netherite to diamond, to give the gold pickaxes more durability (somewhere between diamond and iron)
Technically the irl tools and swords you made are most likely made of bronze, as pure copper is far too soft to make large stuff like that because it will just bend
There were actually pure copper tools and swords with some examples showing clear signs of combat use. They weren't very good but they did exist in the era before bronze or in areas very poor in the other metals needed to create bronze.
@@AceTheOcarinaMaker Huh, that's interesting. They may have been some form of arsenic alloy, because just like tin it strengthens copper but it's also found naturally in some copper ores
I love Gold swords specifically because of the sheer enchantibility. It also helps that it makes people underestimate me in a fight as they think it won't do much damage but *SURPRISE!* they get hit with a Sharpness 5, fire aspect 2, Unbreaking 3, Mending, knockback 3, Does the dishes 2 hit bitch! And even then I still have enough to add other things onto it without being told I have exceeded my enchant limit. I actually Skip diamond swords and just use gold until I get netherite.
Ah yes, realism, in my block game where I go through literal hell and kill tall creatures to go to an alternate dimension to kill the dragon there, hm yes, very realistic game.
Yeah, it's why fireflies weren't added alongside goats and such - people pointed out some types of fireflies are poisonous to frogs, so rather than program the frogs to die eating the bugs ("Realism") or having nothing happen when the frogs eat them (easy way) - Mojang said 'sod it' and didn't add the fireflies at all.
@@ElNeroDiablo Yea, and again, realism in the block game about traveling multiple dimensions to kill a dragon, I don't remember asking for realism in this game, the game is literally fantasy, let it be fantasy. Endermen don't exist, better remove those because I want realism IN A FANTASY GAME.
@@ElNeroDiablo My assumption is they weren't having luck getting the fireflies to work without causing huge lag spikes on all versions so they used that as an excuse to scrap them.
Yeah, good luck trying to tell a big company what to do with something that isn't used all that much. But with it being Minecraft's 15 year anniversary, there might be a possibility for copper to be used one level before Iron.
Personally, I would make Copper on the same level as iron (maybe slightly less speed/defence/damage, but same durability), but when crafted into tools, armor, and swords, it will oxidise over time, making it mine slower, give less defence, or do less damage. I think this would work because your time using copper is very short.
another good mod that adds uses for copper and also adds realism, is the create mod, not only does it give copper tools/armor, but it ALSO adds a whole new engineering aspect that totally makes sense
ooh one idea for copper tools is that the four oxidation levels DO change in your inventory, but the lower the oxidation the higher the durability. so it would effectively mean copper tools are time-limited?
About Pure Copper mod: I tried to use it and dropped it almost immediately, here's why - they had it backwards. They should've make clear copper tools be more durable, and oxidized be more enchantable, because as you start the game, you'll be digging up a lot of copper, but have no means to enchant it and very limited inventory space, however to make use of more durability you'd have to literally sit on your butt waiting for the copper block to oxidize, and after that the leftover oxidized ingots will hog the space in your inventory. If you reverse the bonuses tho it will work a lot more smoothly and a lot more logical - clean freshly forged copper tools will be more durable, while aged tools will be brittle, but them sitting so long in the open would expose them to the world, building up arcane reserves (it's a common trope in fantasy that the older something is, the more magical it becomes, like think of any famous artifact - it will always be something from "long, long time ago").
Never had too many issues. Then again I'm usually the guy who goes into deep dangerous noise caves, in search of iron ore veins, only to come up days later decked out in diamond armor
*How would you guys balance Copper Tools if they were to be added to Minecraft officially?*
an idea i saw that i like more than just copper tools is the abiity to upgrade gold tools in a smithing table using copper to turn them into Rose Gold tools, giving them the speed of gold with the durability of iron tools
i agree on the idea, it would be nice to have a new set of tools that could change their look over time and have a unique role between wood and iron.... especially my luck on survival island worlds where there's no mountains and just ocean for miles in all directions.
Quadruple the chance of being struck by lightning during thunderstorms (for the funny)
would be usefull and it will just be like terraria, a tool used for early game that later gets outshined by easier to get materials you can mine
and also so people would get used to the new material generation so instead of getting an ore you can mine but is mostly useless like lapis before you hit diamonds, you can use that one for a small step up to the newer tools with a small boost
i do wonder how they would integrate the oxidizing of the ore then becouse leaving them out to oxidize and then mine to make better armour sounds something you need to find out to do like placing bookcases near an enchantment table, i can see a diffecoult way of making like a timer on tools so after being made it starts to tick down from shining copper to oxidised copper, lets say from like 100, every 20 or so points going down, it gets more oxidiced, and you can stop it if you put the item in the grind stone or something to lower the oxidetion and if you add that honey thing, then the timer freezes until like 100 durrability gets lost
i can imagine copper gear being pretty decent to start with (somewhere between the stone-iron range), but can become weaker overtime due to oxidization (lower durability, weaker attack, etc.). And like normal copper blocks, you can use honeycomb wax to keep it from rusting. It'd make sense, considering the abundance of copper you can find pretty early off the bat.
(Me holding a Copper sword up during a lightning storm)

I feel like the oxidization would just decrease the durability while negating things like mending. However, imagine tools that have infinte uses within a finite time frame. Instead of copper tools having duribulity, they just degrade over the course of a set amount of time, making iron still superior, but if you are doing a lot of digging that would normally take a lot of durability like insta mining using a set diration life tool instead of a durability based tool could be useful.
I absolutely adore this idea. Anything that makes you rethink an existing game mechanic you take for granted is a fantastic idea
Hambat from Don't Starve moment
@hajimehinata5854 I've played Don't Starve but I've never played enough to get that item. I completely forgot that was how the item works.
given that minecraft sometimes reverses stuff from real world (obsidian and gold durability),oxidization giving more durability kinda does make sense
maybe waxing could slowly degrade over uses alongside durability and once completely gone the tools would begin to oxidize, slowing down efficiency and making it more blunt, maybe it could boost sword and axe damage at the cost of removing sweeping edge or, in the case of axes, making durability degrade quicker. maybe in the new catacombs or whatever theyre called there could be enchanted books like swift sneak called "thick skin" which would somewhat negate negative potion effects if put on armor (slowing poison, making harming do less damage, making slowness do less) or slow down oxidization when put on copper tools
gonna be honest, i always go cave mining instead of digging a tunnel and don't find a lack of iron an issue,
Honestly, I feel like part of the design choices behind the multipart Caves and Cliffs was the exploration of caves rather than branch mining from the older versions, and balanced out with the potential of going too deep and stumbling across sculk biomes. Which, honestly I'm *not* complaining about, it's made me love mining again, but at the same time branch mining shouldn't be overly nerfed as an option either.
Yeah, I haven’t had a huge issue with finding iron in my worlds. If anything, I've struggled more with coal of all things.
instead of getting coal i usually just get lava from the nether.

The way I see a good progression system would be
Wood
Stone
Copper
Iron/Gold (Gold as enchant)
Steel (iron+charcoal)/Rose Gold (Copper+Gold, sturdy and enchantment rich but only has Stone tier durability)

And if you find a mineshaft it’ll be littered all over the place
Same goes with lapis honestly- I find it just as often as Redstone, but that could just be me.
Just go to a regular cave where less mobs spawn or go to the very obvious mountain/high elevation cave which has lots of iron and less mobs
I seriously don't even remotely see any kind of "difficulty" of finding iron apart from if you are in a Swamp (which are small in general anyways) where caves are waterlogged.
I think at this point, Mojang is afraid of adding anything that isn't basically just cosmetic, unless they add a mob vote equivalent.
Tbf, like 60% of the player base starts shitting themselves screaming at them anytime they do anything. I'd be afraid too.
tfw ignores literally every single update in the past few years plus 1.21 that adds a new structure, unique weapon, and useful redstone features.
I think there’s a decent chance they prioritize what might sell merch, and do the bare minimum for anything else. If they don’t make an “event” out of a new mob people won’t care.
one word: netherite
they can be bold and creative when they want to, the problem is that they had to work on all the stuff they promised with 1.16-1.17 while also adding stuff from previous biome votes alongside the mob votes (which i believe are now a thing of the past), its why 1.21 was a success compared to 1.19 and 1.20, because they had more liberty on what to work on instead of being stuck with features that werent as good past concept (looking at you archaeology), and even then 1.21 was still stuck with the armadillo, and why everything related to it was so bland and just filler to bloat the game more.
when mojang can work on something that works, oh boy its fire, but the moment they do something thats outside of the core of the game (EXP, automation, realistic animals, RPG mechanics, bosses), they tend to make things that either break the game or are so worthless that people will judge it for years to come, so it does make sense why they would do the lesser things first, after all, thats what they were doing past b1.9/release 1.0, with the occasional 'big' updates here and there sometimes (anvils, horses, wither, ocean monuments, singleplayer chances to a local server/LAN support)
@@jacehackworth6413 Mojang is, however, willing to put in the effort to ban gun mods.
yeah, fully agree. I was really expecting copper tool mods to become obsolete when they announced copper coming to vanilla
I have never had any trouble finding iron. Idk how you’ve had multiple playthroughs where you didnt even get an iron pickaxe
Very very very bad luck XD
I think the difference is he makes a mine and we just find a cave.

That's the point of Unbreaking. You can use two diamonds, a book, and four obsidian to get enchantments for your tools on-demand with the appropriate experience threshold so that iron generally lasts longer. Even if bookshelves are a major investment, once you have a cow farm and sugar cane farm to make them, it's only a matter of time.
(Butch here)
Honestly the thing that sold me on the copper inventory and gear, was the fact that having them officially in the game could make it so other modders could use the same item value and type so different "Ore" versions of copper could be used in crafting, and so you could have recipes and items from both base game and mods and not have a hoarder's backpack filled with em potentially, more options is always good, and Ace taught me about ore placement and worldgen, that's a win.

Can even be extended for other common metals like aluminum, brass, bronze, cobalt, electrum, lead, nickel, silver, steel, tin, uranium, and zinc
I was personally thinking of them adding some kind of copper pipes for Redstone item systems in vanilla. Maybe give them varying thickness or how wide they are so they have different speeds of transfer instead of having to use hoppers constantly.
Or letting them slowly oxidize and then wax them to set the speed, with more levels of oxidization allowing for slower speeds.
@@mdbgamer556 That's a fantastic idea.
I thought that they would add cables, that would just be vertical redstone.
would also cut down on the lag hoppers cause for multiple large redstone machines, cause hoppers constantly check for items above them which lags the game if you have like 50 or more loaded in. especially bad for servers. you can just put a composter or chest over them to stop the lag, but with copper piping or chutes, you wouldn't have to worry about the lag AND they'd be cheaper than hoppers.
I love the enchanting idea for copper! Copper is actually a primary element in alchemy, so it would fit!
Considering how copper isn't very great for gear in general, they could add bronze instead, by adding a bunch of copper + 1 iron to the crafting table. (yes, I know you use Tin to make bronze, but let's keep it simple)
It would be a slightly weaker version of iron for both tools and armor, with some minor tweaks to make them a valid iron alternative instead of a downgrade.
It gives both gold tools AND copper as a whole, another use
Slightly more durability than iron (like around 400,similar durability to the bow not anywhere near diamond) ,and slightly faster than even diamond but slower than netherite, unlike gold where its the fastest tool but barely holds itself together, its not the fastest, but isn't nearly as useless because it doesn't commit break after you mine 30 blocks with it
what about chainmail armor? should copper armor be better or worse than chainmail?
@@criogonal I think chainmail armor should be its own thing or at least have a similar quality to plain iron
And only reading this now, this could be an idea to combo with a channeling Trident; you strike yourself and use the charged power to win a fight.
good idea, but not vanilla styled at all
More realistically it would insta kill you which would be funny
sorry rotting one... i dont think copper will fix the early game... best if it was left to decor, spyglasses, and lightning rods... oh and copper bulbs... those are a huge improvement...
This guy would piss himself and faint when seeing the Better than Wolves mod
I think the tool progression in general needs a major rework and copper tools just so happen to be the best fix for that:
- Wood can still mine stone + coal and remains largely unchanged.

Great video Ace! I can feel the passion on this one with the amount of research and the solutions given.
Keep going man!

Iron being more than decent allows you to build medium sized projects early on, if you have a good Iron supply to keep the tools up.
@@miimiiandco yeah but it's too easy to quickly jump to diamond level. You technically need only 3 pieces of a common ore and you can now get the 2nd best tools and the best armor.
MatPat made an entire video years ago talking about how worthless Diamond armor would be in real life. Minecraft doesn’t care about your realism (or at least it used to not)
Either way Copper deserves more, and this mod is awesome.
Oooh, we can now make a brazen bull in minecraft.
What I'm hearing is, copper should be weak, but iron should be debuffed by having a chance to explode
Just make copper tools lower durability than iron, and make it so that it cant mine diamond
And give it higher enchantability than iron but lower than gold

I would do the same as you for balancing it, but maybe have electric based enchantments exclusive to the armor l, imagine being struck by lightning and taking reduced damage and becoming charged like a creeper can be, dealing more damage while charged
The issue about different forms of copper is actually quite easy to fix, since forge has a feature in which it lists all items of a cerain type (for example: #forge:copper), these can then be used in crafting recipes, smelting recipes, etc.
I still dont understand why mojang didn't do this in the first place
To be fair if 60% of the fan base starts screaming at any change, I’d be afraid to add game changing stuff too
its because they want copper to fill a different niche than the rest of the ores. Copper is primarily for building, which is unique to the other ores already in the game.
Because there's hard to imagine more pointless thing than adding some middle-tier.
@@Gamer_Dylan_6that fact it’s for building is pretty nice but I would love it to have some more uses, even if it’s something small like water proofing redstone or making alloys for more building blocks

If they want to talk about copper being unrealistic, I would like to point them to *DIAMOND TOOLS, WEAPONS AND ARMOR!*
If one were willing to overhaul the entire progression system, maybe there could be the standard tool line (stone to iron to netherite), and one where the tools are weaker but get more from enchantments (wood to copper to gold).
I was kind of against the idea of copper tools but you've made such good points that I can't help but agree
as a middle eastern living in nowadays Iraq, this mod will help me get back to selling high quality copper
let's hope mojang will implement this
I think copper tools and ways to improve redstone blocks such as pistons and rails would be enough for copper.
And that's only for the breaking level of the pickaxes, you could have the other copper tools be iron competitors like in the mod you've shown
i don't think there should be copper tools, each ore drops 2-5 and theres alot of copper in caves so it would have to be really weak to prevent it from being too overpowered
copper should get more uses but it doesn't really need a new armor set
they should also make iron slightly more common and make diamonds slightly rarer so progression isnt as bad
1:00
That's why copper was added, as a unified source for all the mods that needed copper so you didn't have dozens of copies of copper
oh god yes, please do add cooper tools
We should add coal tools and charcoal tools
I've had a pet idea rattling around in my head for a while now. although maybe I just read it somewhere
Basically, basic "food groups" for the food items. Something like Fruits, Veggies, Meat, Carbs, Sweets. These groups are invisible, a hidden mechanic like saturation, and in fact work with saturation
Basically, each food group has it's own separate saturation
So some examples
Basically the optimum feasible diet right now in Minecraft is an all-steak diet. 3 steaks fills your hunger bar out with an extra 12.8 units of saturation
However, under the proposed system of my pet idea, a mixed diet is far better
On an empty hunger bar, you could have a steak (meats, 12.8 sat), a golden carrot (veggies, 14.4 sat), bread (carbs, 6 sat), and finish off desert with a pumpkin pie (sweets, 4.8 sat), for a grand total of 38 saturation for your well-rounded meal
You'll not have to eat for a while after that
Potatoes are easier to farm en mass so baked potatoes are one of the easiest foods to automate. Melon slices are mostly used in potion making. Cookies are cosmetic. We don't make cookies to feed ourselves in real life. They're a treat. Overcomplicating things like this have a chance of completely being a turn off to people who don't want to worry about food too much.
2:34 lapis is widely know as a pigment and was used in countless artworks
And if we are talking about tools then a rose gold one would be a better pick, as they could at least make golden tools somewhat useful.)
And other would just not have fitting place in the current state of the game (like the enderman variants from dungeons - they belong rather in the new end, which don't exist yet - but also things like moobloom would be actually better fit to eather-like dimension than overworld).
Right because adding every single one of those canned etc. content would definitely be something you can do in a single update lol
Atleast for java I'd love another performance update.
How do people m
Without access to the source code make better performance through mods (optifine, sodium) than Mojang itself?
AceTheChad
You have some good points and the oxidization of copper tools giving them more durability seems like a pretty fun concept and that would definitely be better than what gold tools are. But iron can actually be pretty common if you just find a good cave, as you can get fully set up with all the iron you need.
I just can't find iron PLEASE add copper tools and increase iron spawn rate
Maybe if copper tools were crafted with copper blocks?
@@jacketofdiamonds That would be too cumbersome, and really make it worse Iron.
@@miimiiandco maybe copper blocks or a new material could be crafted with four, then?
People when items that are mainly meant to make blocks are added to the block building game:
I’ve always thought that iron felt more rare nowadays, so it’s nice to see I was right.
Copper tools SHOULDN’T be added to the game.
Arguments are simple:
1) we still have plenty of iron, just go in a cave. Digging straight down never was a good strategy, but you use only it in the video
2) Realism. You speak about iron swords been very durable in reality, but your forgor - every other tool else is durable too, unless it’s some garden equipment, which are only copper tools from reality you’ve shown. So copper tools will have durability near to stone tools or in the middle between iron and stone, which is still so small to be efficient as an alternative to iron, which you need them to be
3) Progression.
So the mod is cool, but you wanted this to be kinda realistic…
Imagine you don’t have to get everything from iron in five minutes, 10-15 is still normal and I take no more than this every time I start a new world. We are not speedrunning
Also, copper is a building block, so you need to have lots of it and it isn’t useless at all. This has become even better after 1.21 release with new copper blocks
I should have made a reaction video instead of making such a long comment😆
Adding to your second counterargument. Realism should never be the main reason for the implementation of a mechanic in minecraft. Realism should be a nice bonus for an already fun mechanic, but minecraft is not the game for adding features solely to further our reality into its fantastic world.
You’re absolutely right, but author focused on realism so much, that I needed to at least show him how this REALLY works irl
It maybe shouldn't be the most convincing point, but for me it was lol
Edit: I love that skin. Looks so good
Wow it took me till the end to realize that this was your channel! I haven't watched your stuff in a couple years, good to see your stuff again, and your voice sounds great!
Gotta love how Mojang made Iron available to fortune as a response to Iron farms feeling required
And now theyre somehow even more required than before
They didn't even make it for that at all, they made Iron and such drop as items so the player's inventory isn't filled with two different types of blocks of the same Ore, which is an issue when there's not even bundles yet, fortune is simply a by-product.

Aka the copper problem in modded Minecraft
probably the best argument ive seen for copper tools, i kinda regret not adding or not knowing about this mod while making my server modpack
Copper Tool's would've added so much more 'tinkering' in our 1.21, im suprised they didn't add this in with the trial chambers.
Missed oppertunity.
i'd rather have copper allow to be plated onto gold like netherite to diamond, to give the gold pickaxes more durability (somewhere between diamond and iron)
i feel like the bigger problem is that copper is far too common despite having very little usage.
Copper isn't meant to be an ore with a bunch of versatile uses. It's supposed to be decorative.
Fresh video
I love Gold swords specifically because of the sheer enchantibility. It also helps that it makes people underestimate me in a fight as they think it won't do much damage but *SURPRISE!* they get hit with a Sharpness 5, fire aspect 2, Unbreaking 3, Mending, knockback 3, Does the dishes 2 hit bitch! And even then I still have enough to add other things onto it without being told I have exceeded my enchant limit. I actually Skip diamond swords and just use gold until I get netherite.
I've never had a problem with getting iron in my worlds. Just find a cave. Then you'll easily get more than 2 stacks in less than 20 minutes.
I can understand tools but not the armour, what reason would copper armour have to exist?
I play minecraft since 1.7 and i never knew that there are people that have problems finding iron
Yeah, good luck trying to tell a big company what to do with something that isn't used all that much. But with it being Minecraft's 15 year anniversary, there might be a possibility for copper to be used one level before Iron.
Yeahhh, at this point everything that's being added is given 1, maybe 2 uses if lucky, then left like that for good.
Gonna be honest with you, Iron is not that rare at all.
Uhhhhh…. I haven’t watched Ace in, like, 2 years…
Congrats girl!

Iron farm, problem solved
About Pure Copper mod:
I tried to use it and dropped it almost immediately, here's why - they had it backwards.
