A legend, a warrior, and a father! His life cut short by one of us and that is a shame! I cried a lot and I feel heartbroken and angry right now. May he rests in peace and his legacy lives on forever. I wish you added Hukumuri's sighting with David, that is one of my favorites. Cara's and Ndzutin's father and Xidulu's lover Hukumuri.
I can't even get through these comments because my eyes tear up after every third one. I hope the reserves will work with the area communities to build agreed-upon buffer zones and have a better escalation plan in place for the next encounter. If no one at Djuma knew, then the network of experts wasn't wide enough. Surely we - as in we humans - can do better. Hukumuri, choose your territory and roam on, dear boy.

So sad he is gone but so grateful for his life and for the priviledge of knowing him. I saw him live when I visited Djuma in 2019. And he was an impressive large cat. For those of us who love and respect all wildlife, the loss of 1 is a sad thing. Safari live is THE best thing there is to watch. I wish all parents introduced it to their children. Wildlife teaches us so much and bring us so much joy! All of those involved in bringing us Safari live bring each and every single living thing to life. In turn the animals grace us with beauty, education and alot of laughs like Hukumuri. He was and is an great Ambassador for his species. R.I.P. handsome boy.

I am so heartbroken. They should have maintained their fencing and try to a little bit harder. There was no reason for him to be shot and killed. He's a wild animal trying to survive. It's his natural instincts. You don't kill a wild animal for their natural instincts. To survive.
So sad that a beautiful leopard had to die in this way. It should be straightforward for villagers to be able to claim compensation and also the villagers should be provided with wildlife proof enclosures for their livestock at night (great success with this in protecting livestock from tigers in India). Surely the people making money from wildlife tourism can do more for the local communities. RIP Hukumuri - so sorry you had to lose your life in this way.
It'd be more effective if they used that money to sort out better fencing etc around the reserve. The reserves already do a lot for the communities, don't forget they also have to pay their guides, and most importantly, the have to (and should) prioritise that money to protect threatened and endangered wildlife.

Shame to hear about Hukumuri. For some reason I thought he was a lot older than 8, maybe because of his grizzled look. Little surprised you didn't include the clip of him successfully hunting a warthog piglet. I think Noelle was the guide and it was during one of the live NatGeo TV specials. He was waiting on top of the termite mound when the family of hogs came running out, he swatted at one then caught the last piglet out. It was amazing and total bad@$$.
