I'm 71 and when I was around 8 I was able to ride an elephant at the St. Louis Zoo. Through my life I thought about how neat that was. Then I began to think about this magnificent animal walking in circles with kids on top of them. I'm so glad there have been rescues and I know they don't have animal shows any longer there. It makes me sad that I thought how much fun the shows were watching the trained monkeys, etc. I just didn't know how sad they must have been. Thank you to all who rescue and support the freedom of these beautiful animals.

Not all animals in human care, and used for food, labor, entertainment and as pets..
      ..are "unhappy".
Most animals in captive management are content happy and healthy.
There's an interesting perspective presented in Yann Martel's "Life of Pi"
In chapter 4 he discusses how animals in a [good, ethical] zoo are safer, happier, healthier and longer lived than their counterparts in the wild.
Life in compressed territories in captive management, is much more at ease for the animals, than having to suffer the cruelties of nature.
(hunting or starving or being the prey, disease, weather, predators, maintaining territory etc etc)

This has to be the best animal video that I've ever seen! At the start of the video when the little guy was nearest the vehicle looking like he wanted to play and the gentleman laughed and said "this is too wonderful for words" well it was actually quite touching and amusing! The gentlemans amazement and sheer joy was as genuine as I've ever seen or heard! You could tell straight away that this baby Elephant is a male, such a young one but already behaving like a Bull Elephant with his mock charges and seemingly unafraid! Absolutely, unequivocally the most adorable thing that I've ever seen! As long as I live I will never forget this!!! Thank you so much! This has made my day, week, month, year, decade!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤

I can see him all grown up charging at these jeeps they wouldn't be laughing that's for sure. I wouldn't be I'd be all wet.because it would scare me so I'd pee all over my self. I'd more and likely scream too. Knowing me. But they are so beautiful I seen elephants up close and even rode on one but they were tame ones. Well as tame as they could be. It is a rough ride on an elephant that's for sure. Wouldn't want to ride one no more then I did. But I love these big animals the babies are so cute to watch. To bad they get killed for a tooth growing out of there face. Pounchers should be hung but so should the buyers of Ivory. Do them both would stop the killing of these animals. Well it would help stop it.

YOU got to remember who needs it and is doing the killing and for whom . Thousands of elephants and rhinos have already died since, especially during African slavery when thousands of black people were enslaved and used as mules to carry IVORY to the east coast of AFRICA to MOMBASA, ZANZIBAR and SULIMANI. IVORY was never a thing for AFRICANS since it was of no value.

When the babies push their faces into the soil they are just copying the males that do this when they come into musth. Researchers say during musth they get swelling of the temporal glands that presses on the elephants eyes and can cause acute pain, so the elephants try to counteract this pain by digging their tusks into the ground. Others that have observed this say it is a display of aggression, a mock killing, showing what the elephant would do to another. So again while in musth usually and by the males playing. Baby is copying what he has been shown, he just doesn't realize he needs some tusks. lol

Since babies travel in the herds where all the adults are female, I kinda doubt this behavior is copied from adult males in musth. Seems like it's probably more of an instinctual mock killing thing.

My absolute favorite guy commenting on the elephants; so much respect for the mom elephant & babies; acknowledges how cute & fun, funny they can be while also reminding us those cute babies grow to be 6 ton giants in a relatively speaking, short amount of time. Been watching for years, & still watching ... ... ...

Elephant charging : absolutely priceless !!! I think she was trying to muster up courage but kept backing away, throws her trunk in dirt perhaps like a little kid hiding under a blanket to hide. She comes out and tries again...eventually the anxiousness gets too much for her and she goes to run behind the bush to hide. 😂 Most adorable !!!!!

It's SO interesting that elephants have only 2 breasts below her front legs or the top of her chest if you will, just like us!!! Most udders like cows and sheep have are closest to the back legs so I find it fascinating.

It is so rare a mama will allow the young ones to show off and be silly when so close to what they consider dangerous. Your organization must be very unique to get such opportunities . Again, thank you for the smiles and pleasure this gave.

Realize this is older but as someone who has a bit of experience with the large animals too, have to say when mother flared her ears at you, it was a good sign to back off, yes she took a step back when the vehicle was started (and baby ran) but you still could have backed up a good 5 meters and made the situation much better for her.
