@@SlanderedGaming I've got somewhere around 1,000 hours between these two games across half a dozen playthroughs... and I have NEVER finished either game. How sad is that?
Welp...my head is still spinning. That being said....EXCELLENT work! Very detailed. Definetly going to have to come back and review what I have listened to.
Great video! This helps a ton! After finally trying Pillars of Eternity, I am now obsessed with this series. I was already looking for more games like BG3 and became super interested after seeing the demos for Avowed. I absolutely loved the story and role-playing of the first game. That said, there were a handful of moments where the combat, overall mechanics, or random glitches were a little frustrating. For instance, I played as a ranger and had frequent issues with my animal companion getting stuck in place. I would either have to knock the animal unconscious or reload to get them unstuck. 😅 I also experienced a few corrupted saves. Even so, totally worth it!! Now that I’ve made it to Deadfire, I’m psyched that I can continue the amazing role-playing experience and get immersed in the engaging combat. Smooth experience and amazing visuals too! Continuing with my previous character, I am playing a Ghost Heart ranger/cipher multi-class for the role-play and having a blast!
My favorite thing about PoE is the AI modifier. One of the biggest issues I had with WOTR and Kingmaker was how simplistic the AI was. I feel like if I have to pause every other second to get characters to use their abilities it defeats the purpose of having RTWP.
I agree on some level but what usually happens in my playthroughs is RTwP for trash mobs and the turn based for bosses. That's still significantly faster than turn based at all times.
Thanks Slandered having a fantastic day thanks dude! Hope you are too. Just started a new playthrough of this last week with a pure Berath Priest (the idea came from RPGDivision).... This video will help a fuck tonne thanks mate, haven't played through since it came out in 2018!
As someone that has played Paladins since the original Baldur's Gate, I love how they do Paladins and Priests in both Pillars games, where you have to act a particular way rather than the alignment thing in DnD/Pathfinder, it's easier for me to manage/follow as I struggle role playing characters.
Well, you're still being told how to act in both instances. It's just different phrases for the same thing. "You must be good" and "You must be compassionate, and when given the option to pick anything else, you only pick compassionate".
@chaseyork3131 I think the trouble with how a lot of games deal with the alignment system they make it too ambiguous and a lot of times the lawful good choice can feel like the least good choice.
@@SlanderedGaming Does it? Losing your paladin abilities for being evil or no longer being able to take Monk/Druid levels because you shifted out of lawful/neutral stances seems the same to me at face value on paper but I'm just about to try to this one out so maybe it will just seems like a really similar thing on paper. Overall I'm looking forward to it though. (additionally though that is playing pathfinder with slightly toy box tweaked alignment shifts since that can be awful in the base game)

Great video. Would love to see reactivity as a separate entry for each choice if you go that route. Example: It’s great that you mention race reactivity in Godlike but if someone skipped that entry for some reason they would also miss all of the reactivity for all of the other races.
You can also create from scratch a specific 'save file' data to choose from at character creation, where you can select any outcome possible in the first game, from many situations (like who lives or die in certain questlines, or even if specific quests were completed or not). It can be useful if you want to try a different starting point, or if you have not PoE 1 installed on your current computer.
Please oh Please Do a Video about the AI System everytiem i tried to mess with it i get overwhelmed by the options and doing a very suboptimal setup i ve looked a lot for a good guide on that system unsuccessfully and you have a very clear and metodical way of teaching game mechanics so i beg you xD
Turn-based has some significant differences in terms of what's more and less powerful. For example, Eder with the rogue ability Escape is an unhittable tank at lvl1 going forward in turn-based
I would normally agree but - PoE engine was specifically designed for real time with pause unlike D&D which was blatantly designed for turned based. This is doubly true since PoE implemented programmable AI. So PoE is easily my favorite RTwP game from a purely gameplay perspective.
Generally I agree but RtwP is becoming so rare nowadays that I'm honestly missing it. Plus I think Deadfire is a much better and more well balanced game in real time. The turn based mode felt pretty half assed
so good to see this kind of videos, especially in 2024 when so many play that D4 crap and never heard of Pillars of Eternity, with Avowed around the corner its the perfect time to go back or get into these games for first time.
Hey Slandered! I would love a breakdown video of the AI system. I haven't played through Deadfire before, haven't gotten off the first island. But I'm trying to do a run through PoE1 and 2 back to back soon. That video would be a big help!
One thing that took me forever to realize in real time mode is that you can adjust the speed of combat. Theirs a meter to make it really fast, slow, really slow in the bottom center of the screen.
Yup, it's also in the option or combat screen too, I believe. I never knew that, been playing off & on for a few years until I just decided to watch a beginner video to the end, & saw it.
