It was one of the best Saturday night entertainment i've ever watched, sad how the rating plummeted to lower ratings during the final years of the show. (1995-1999)
Noel was partly to blame. He admitted in a Michael Parkinson interview he should have ended House Party in 1995, he didn't. He made a huge mistake in 1996 by revamping the show so much, that it lost all of its warmth and appeal. From October 1996 he dumped the great opening titles and music. He rebuilt the interior of the Great House, he used a real life manor house for exterior scenes, and he axed all of the fun segments apart from NTV and introduced new crap ones. All the warmth was lost, and we mark the decline from October 1996 onward.
