It is a fun to watch twins and triplets or even quadruplets of ragas born from the same mother raga. Stories abound where even mothers find it difficult to identify and locate and identify each when all of them, clad similarly, stand in front of the hapless mother. But observations based on clever musical science elements come to our help to identify who is who. The only thing is that we have to have the expertise. Unfortunately I don’t have it. But when an expert like Deepu puts the ragas under his microscope eyes and explains I can identify. But there are people with high power musical ears who can do the job easily.
Being a layman I find it rather impossible, on my own, to identify any among similar looking ragas. I think the perfection in singing also matters a lot. It is the Bhavam that aids me.
While Jog brings in lot of a kind relaxed mood of dreaming about pleasant experiences of the past and present, Thilang has Bhakthi or platoninc love. Deepu says it is the representative raga of a sort of intense longing or yearning. True…
This is evident in the Kriti Ullam Uruki paaduvom by BMK (?). It is Thilang and we feel there is a burning inside due to the heat of burning.
Savithri raga is very much new to me. It is still a blank state in my mind. Thank you for introducing her to us.

I believe the song "Kamini kavyamohini" (കാമിനി കാവ്യമോഹിനി) in the movie Punarjanmam is in Thilang. Somehow this song didn't get the recognition it deserved.

I hear thilang but also a variety of other notes too. Devarajan master was an expert at mixing other notes!!
