The moment I hear the name of this raga “Oru Naal Pothumaa” comes into my mind with the brilliance and speed of lightning. I have never heard this song from any voice other than BMK with so much perfection as it is rendered here. Anybody can verify the above statement through several TH-cam videos where several talented singers tried to sing this. Why don’t you sing the full song with the full BGM and post the same in your channel?
The raga is a pleasant one and has the look of an all rounder to express many types of emotions .
“Indu Mukhee Indu mukhee” has the role of representing the gentle but unexpressed love in the underdeveloped mind of a youth towards a woman who was the lady love of an arrogant cheat. The emotion of love of expectation (but in total helplessness) when the cheated woman lies in his hut during night comes out as a loud song in soliloquy . See how the master composer Devarajan Maash used Maand as an envelope to contain the lyrics .
Maand was used in Oru Naal Pothuma perhaps to convey the mindset of an arrogant music (concert) challenger who came to Madurai to challenge the king there after mastering even North Indian ragas like Maand and Durbar. Hats off to the two

Hindustani and Carnatic mandu bear little in common apart from their notes. More resemblance is towards pentatonic Bhinnashadja or Hemant
